Reflection

Campus News: Bath St The first half of the term is gone, the swimming programme is finished and there is lots of teaching and learning to get through before the end of term. Our Alice Springs weather continues to be interesting and different , and almost every day is a surprise.

As a staff, our first day focus for 2011 was to look for what is right in the world. While our news broadcasts and televisions bring us many negative reports, it is important to look for what can make us smile and celebrate so that the young children around us experience the joy of growing up, rather than be exposed to what is wrong, what is sad and what is difficult.

FIRST FRIDAY MASS Tomorrow we celebrate Mass in the Church at 9.00am. Please join us if you can.

COLOUR FOR A CURE Next Friday 11th March, the SRC will take part in the Colour for a Cure fundraiser, for children and young adults

suffering with cancer. The SRC are asking for donations of coloured hair spray to assist with the day. If you can help, please send your donations in before next Friday morning. Notes will be sent out next week, and only children with permission will have their hair sprayed.

Heavenly Father, make me a better parent.

Teach me to understand my children,

to listen patiently to what they have to say, and to answer all their questions kindly.

Keep me from interrupting or contradicting them.

Make me as courteous to them as I would have them be to me.

May I never laugh at their mistakes, or resort to ridicule when

they displease me.

Bless me with the confidence to grant them all their reasonable requests and the courage to

deny them privileges I know will do them harm.

May I not rob them of the opportunity to think, to choose and to make decisions for themselves.

Make me fair and just and kind.

And fit me, O Lord, to be loved and respected and imitated by my children.

Cary C. Myers

CASUAL CLOTHES DAY Thank you to those of you who supported the Marist Mis-sions with your donations last Friday. Our next Casual Clothes Day is 25th March.

LOST PROPERTY We have 339 students at the Bath Street Campus so it is very difficult to keep tabs on personal property if it is not named. Please ensure that all items are named

bags, water bottles, lunch boxes, library bags, hats and all pieces of clothing. Guitars and recorders also need to be named clearly.

ASH WEDNESDAY Lent is the only liturgical season that begins on a week-day. This day is marked by fasting and the use of ashes. The use of ashes is referred to often in the bible, and was a gesture of penance or mourning. Ashes began to be used by Christians in the tenth century but was a private observance and did not enter the liturgy until the Pope used them himself in the thirteenth century. The texts of the liturgy stress repentance and acts of mercy.

Ashes will be distributed in the hall at approx 9am.

FRIDAY ACTIVITIES New Friday Activities start tomorrow, so please make sure that your child is ready and has been allocated to an activity. This is a fun afternoon for students across the Traeger campus, and we encourage ALL students to know where they need to be to get the most out of the afternoon.

TRAEGER PARISH MASS This is scheduled for March 6th at 9:30am. It is an expectation that students attend this one off celebration within the parish community. Only our student leaders are expected to wear full school uniform, others, casual. The Choir will also be providing the musical accompaniment to the Mass.

SHROVE TUESDAY This Tuesday 8th of March, the Year 5 students will be having a Pancake morning. The money raised will go to Caritas. It will be running from 7-8am, so if you would like a hot breakfast for a good cause, please come along.

TRAEGER SWIMMING CARNIVAL The Swimming Carnival is on this Thursday the 10th of March at the town pool. Any parents wishing to help on the day are most welcome. The canteen will be open for eating breaks, however, these breaks are limited, so food from home is probably a good idea for sustaining energy through this very active day. Please make sure your children have plenty of sunscreen and water. Please support your house colour and barrack as loud as loud as you can!

SCHOOL START AND FINISH TIMES: There are still a number of students arriving late and getting picked up well past the 3.15 Supervision Time. If you are going to be late to collect your child, please contact the Front Office on 89 508555. We do not have facilities for after school care. Students need to be in Home Room at 8.15. If your child is late, they must sign in at the Front Office. If your child is sick, please call the Traeger Office to notify us of their absence to prevent any confusion as to your child s whereabouts.

HOMEWORK CENTRES Traeger Campus Homework Centre All students are welcome to attend Traeger s Homework Centre; however, you need a Traeger Homework Centre card. To get a card, all you need to do is get a form from the front office, read it, fill it out and return it after it has been signed by parents/guardians. It s that simple! Where: Traeger Library When: Thursday 3.00

4.00pm

INDIGENOUS HOMEWORK CENTRE These are on Monday and Thursday. The sessions go from 3:00

4:00pm and will be held in the 6.2 home room.

Students attending will be bussed home. We did change the days last week but found that the Monday and the Thursday are more suitable. Sorry for any inconvenience.

YEAR 5 HOMEWORK CENTRE This takes place on Wednesday 3:00-4:00pm. This will be held in our library where the students must be collected at 4:00pm please. OPENING MASS (PLEASE NOTE THE CHANGE) Our opening College Mass is now at the CONVENTION Centre, on March 18th. All students are to attend school first so that the rolls and homeroom items for the day can be taken care of prior to leaving. Students will walk to the Convention Centre and be bussed back. Please check the newsletter for further details.

BUS TRAVELLERS When our students are waiting for the bus in the afternoon they have been asked to wait on the footpath and not move towards the road side until the bus has stopped. Year s 5 and 6 will board first, followed by Years 7 and 8. If your child/ren travel by bus could you please discuss this with them?

There have been several complaints about Students pushing each other in front of moving vehicles at the Gap Rd Stop. If the students constantly involved in these incidents continue with this dangerous behaviour, their parents will be asked to make alternative arrangements for travel after school. A reminder also that rubbish is not to be dropped in the area and the Shell Service Station is out of bounds.

Have a great week Michael Hurley Acting Head of Campus Traeger

AFL TRIALS

Just a reminder to students that the second AFL trial is on this Friday, 4th March at Jim McConville Oval 3:30pm to 4:40pm. Students who were unable to make last Friday's trial, or those who wish to be 'looked at' a second time are welcome to attend - as long as you have handed in your form to the front office.

FOOTBAL (SOCCER) TRIALS

Male & female students (13 years and under) are invited to try out for the Desert Storm Football teams next Friday 11th March at Ross Park Oval 1:15pm - 2:30pm. Students will have to be signed out by a parent from school. You need to make sure you have returned your permission form to the front office by next Wednesday please.

TOUCH FOOTBALL

OLSH will enter teams into the local Touch Football competition. Hopefully there are enough students interested to have a junior high and senior high team. It is the cheapest team sport you will ever join! ONLY $20 for the season, plus maybe buy a team t-shirt. The competition commences on Friday 15th April. Games are usually scheduled for a 4pm start (5pm senior high). Each team plays 3 boys and 3 girls on a field at a time. There are modified scoring rules. The Desert Storm Touch Footy teams will be selected from students who play in this weekly competition. Team nominations are due by the 14th March. If you are interested in playing for OLSH, please let Mrs Neyland (Traeger Campus) or Mr Augustin (Sadadeen Campus) know. Also, we are hoping that a few parents will volunteer to be the OLSH team coaches/managers.
