Inside this issue:
A BITTERSWEET NOTE:
from PAN BRILES
Can you imagine a world without music? I believe each of us has some degree of appreciation for music. Many have a desire to sing, but think they can’t so they don’t even try. They just listen. Our founder, John Wesley, believed that all “creatures” have this ability and even provided, “Directions for Singing.” If you haven’t read them, I invite you to do so. They are in the front of our hymnal. Pay close attention to VII. Above all sing spiritually. Have an eye to God in every word you sing.
This has been the guiding principle in providing music for worship. The folks who contribute to the music ministry at Morris Chapel are a wonderful group of Christians who are dedicated to sharing God’s word through their musical talents—The Chancel Choir; The Praise Team; The Joyous Ringers; The Men’s Chorus; The Sunshine Kids; The Rainbow Connection; accompanists, Sheila Bennett, Judy Benedek, and, Grant Beard; assistant organist, Dianne Boles; directors, Linda King, Patricia Evans, Sandra Flynn, Liz Dull and Leslie Gordon; the Praise Team leader, Lori Cook; sound techs, Brad Briles (he wasn’t given a choice in the matter), Aaron Cook, Brad Cook, Betsy Wilson; and, members of the Worship Committee who provide guidance. And then there are those who contribute seasonally and
enhance the music ministry of Morris Chapel—VBS chorus, those who assist by sharing special talents as instrumentalists or soloists, caroling, narrating, building sets, making props and costumes, participating or directing pageants, preparing special bulletins, or contributing when “extra funds” are needed for robes or music. Wow, that’s just about everyone!
For 33 years, you have allowed me to be the Director of Music at Morris Chapel. I cannot adequately express to you what a blessing serving our Lord in this capacity has meant to me both personally and spiritually. I shall always be grateful to you for this privilege. That is why resigning my position can best be described as bitter-sweet. My resignation will become effective January 2013.

PRAYER CHAIN
Week of October 7, 2012
Louise Anderson & Family, Austin Laws, Emmalene Lemieux (loss of her sister,
Geraldine Sargent, on Oct. 1st) & The Family of Edward Sargent (Emmalene Lemieux’s brother-in-law), Treva Martin (at Oak Forest Rehabilitation fighting an infection), The
Family of Robert Gray Bowman (Viola Bowman, Arnold & Jenny Bowman, and Devan
Bowman), Elaine Laws (recovering at home after successful surgery on Monday, Oct. 8th), The Family of Carolyn Peddycord (Jeff Peddycord’s mother, who passed away
Wednesday, Oct. 10th), Debbie Wall & Family (Debbie was taken to Baptist Hospital on
Friday, Oct. 12th for a severe allergic reaction, but is recovering nicely at this time.)
(Pan Briles’ message continued from Page 1)
As you may or may not know, I retired from the Forsyth County School System in June; and, in January, I will begin another career with the General Assembly serving Donny Lambeth and the 75th District of North Carolina. This position will require my living in Raleigh which prohibits my giving 100% to Morris Chapel—that is not what I want for God’s church.
Everyone is working very hard to prepare for the upcoming Thanksgiving, Advent, and Christmas seasons. I have every confidence in the SPR Committee and Pastor Dan in finding my replacement. You may be assured that I will work with the committee and musicians to make the transition a seamless one.
Know that I am leaving with all the love you have given to me since I became a member of Morris Chapel in 1978. My prayer is that our church continues to grow not only in number but also spiritually and committed to serving others.
By His grace,
Pan

IT’S ALMOST HERE, AND WE NEED YOUR HELP!!!!
Trunk-A-Treat is one of the wonderful outreach ministries of Morris Chapel, and the
Children’s Council wants to get the WHOLE CHURCH involved. Yes...this means YOU
- this means EVERYONE!!!
How YOU can help:
Please be in prayer for the event that we, as a church, can be great witnesses to
those who come through out church!
We have 59 parking spaces that we want to fill! (See the Sign-Up Sheets located in
all Adult Sunday School classrooms, on Samantha Wesley’s door, OR you can call
the church office with your name!)
The “yellow school bus” has been transformed into the GREAT PUMPKIN and
will be wheeled around church looking for donations of candy and/or small prizes.
There will be buckets with pumpkins on them ready to take all donations. **The
small prizes can include decorative pencils, balloons, bubbles, spider rings, bouncy
balls, etc. These items are available at most stores like Dollar Tree, Family dollar,
Five-below (new in Winston-Salem - everything is $5 or less!), and other discount
outlets in the area.**
SCHEDULE FOR OCTOBER 31ST “TRUNK-A-TREAT”
4:30pm Set up in parking lot and Family Life Center
5:30-7pm Hot Dog Supper (donations accepted - money collected will go toward Youth
Ministry.)
6-6:40pm Costume judging
6:45-8pm Trunk-A-Treat (side parking lot beside Family Life Center)
If you don't have a trunk or hatchback or a truck that you are decorating for the event,
bring a lawn chair and come watch the kids trick or treat, and be an active part of the
festivities! ALL AGES ARE WELCOME!

the Preschool office for your ink
cartridges. You may leave your Labels for
Education in the Preschool office door

PRESCHOOL PROJECTS
Morris Chapel Preschool is selling
cookie dough to help support our
Weekday Ministries Program. A
successful sale will allow us to purchase
new toys, supplies & playground mulch.
The cookie dough keeps for 6 months
in the refrigerator, and may also be
frozen. It’s great to have on hand for the
upcoming Holiday season, or anytime you
want to make some “home made” warm
cookies! Orders must be turned in by
Monday, October 22nd & you can pay
when you pick up your order. The order
form is on my door, or you can give me a
call at 595-8101.
Thank you for supporting this delicious
fundraiser, and the Weekday Ministries
Program.

BAZAAR TIME
The cool, crisp Fall weather is fast approaching, and the leaves on the trees will soon
be turning many beautiful colors as they begin to fall to the ground.
The Bazaar workers have completed canning and preparing the green beans, pickles,
tomatoes, chow-chow, chicken casseroles and chicken pies, sweet potato casseroles,
apple and sweet potato fried pies, spaghetti casserole and jellies. The Jane Morris Circle

On Sunday, October 21st at 2pm, your help is needed to set up tables and move the
food out for inspection, pricing and display starting Monday, October 22nd. We will
have tenderloins, ham, sugar cake, sausage and gravy biscuits ready to serve when doors
to open promptly at 8am until 11am on Saturday, October 27th. Please bring all craft
items in on Wednesday, October 24th. We still need ice chests, to be brought in on
Thursday, October 25th. Cakes, pies, tarts, Brunswick strew and chicken stew on
Friday, October 26th. If you need additional information on specific dates & times,
please contact Lucille Ashburn at 595-2235.
We are very thankful and appreciative to all who so generously donated their time and
talents to the Bazaar, and we are grateful for the wonderful garden, grown by Bill & Pat
Gordon, that made it possible to have the good vegetables and fruits to can and preserve!
We could not have done it without EVERYONE’S HELP!!
Thank you for your countless contributions...Lucille Ashburn and the Bazaar Committee.

Ministry room at 9am sharp!!
If you have any questions or concerns, please call Debbie Causby at 595-2713 or Kathy
Walker at 996-7065. Thank you for allowing us this opportunity to work with your children
The children of Morris Chapel have begun their Annual Thanksgiving Food Collection
drive. This event will run from Sunday, October 7th - Sunday, November 11th. Children
were given a bag in Sunday School last Sunday (Oct. 7th) and asked if they would please place
a few non-perishable items in it and return it to their Sunday School teachers on or before
Sunday, November 11th.
Items collected will be donated to the Morris Chapel Food Pantry and the Second Harvest
Food Bank of Northwest NC. If your child was given a bag, please encourage him or her to
participate in this mission. Food is a vital part of daily life, but for many, food is scarce and
not readily available. Your child can help ease this burden on families in our town and
surrounding communities. If your child did not receive a bag, please request one from their
Sunday School teacher, or contact Amy Whicker at (336) 402-3544. If you do not have
children in the Children’s Department, but would like to help Morris Chapel with this cause,
any donations would be welcome. A donation box is located at the intersection of the
Children’s Department hallways.
Thank you all so much and..Thanks for GIVING this THANKSGIVING!
