March 27, 2017 Echoes Newsletter Morris Chapel UMC A Message from Gracie… A total of 31 MoChap Youth and adults went to Winter Jam this past Saturday in Greensboro where we saw people/groups such as Crowder, Tenth Avenue North, Sadie Robertson, NewSong, Zach Williams, Thousand Foot Krutch, and Colton Dixon. Each year, there are all types of Christian music presented at Winter Jam, including Hip Hop, Pop, Rock, etc. Though these artists represent different music genres, there are always resounding themes throughout the whole show. One theme that was most apparent to me was the idea of coming to Jesus just as we are. Now that s not a radical theme in and of itself, because it s an idea that weve heard of. Weve most likely heard this growing up in a church or going to church events, and I guarantee that youve heard it at Morris Chapel. Its one of those ideas that we hear so often that we may not stop to actually think about what it actually means. As Easter is quickly approaching, I think its good that we take time to think about this idea, the idea of coming to Jesus as we are. Its not a completely radical idea because weve, again, most likely heard about it, but it could be considered radical when you consider the culture and world we live. We are surrounded by people who want to tell us who to be, how to dress, how to fix our hair and makeup, where to live, what to drive, and many other things. In other words, we are surrounded by people who lead us to be things that we arent. God, on the other hand, doesnt want that. Yes, we need to become more and more Christ-like, we need to be loving and caring beings, and we need to do things like share the Gospel and help our neighbor. God wants us to share what kind of people we are in that God wants us to be loving, caring, welcoming, etc. God does not want us to change ourselves so that we can be accepted, loved, and welcomed by God. As Easter is approaching, we look forward to celebrating the fact that Jesus took our place and died on the cross for us. Jesus literally died for us just as we are. We celebrate the fact that the God who created us out of love doesnt love us conditionally but unconditionally. We celebrate that God doesnt love or accept us based on how we look, our career, our family life, our finances, our popu- larity, our possessions, or our location. We love, serve, and worship a God who loves us for who we are, despite how sinful and disobedient we are. We love, serve, and worship a God who wants us to come before God, and enter into Gods presence, every single day just as we are, with no filters, no lies, no secrets, no doubts, no hesitations. Morris Chapel, thats a beautiful thing! As we will soon celebrate Easter, and each and every day before and after Easter, remember this love that God has for us, and remember this desire that God has to know us for who we are, and not the person that the world tells us to be. Echoes Newsletter Morris Chapel UMC

A Message from Gracie… A total of 31 MoChap Youth and adults went to Winter Jam this past Saturday in Greensboro where we saw people/groups such as Crowder, Tenth Avenue North, Sadie Robertson, NewSong, Zach Williams, Thousand Foot Krutch, and Colton Dixon.

Now that’s not a radical theme in and of itself, because it’s an idea that we’ve heard of. We’ve most likely heard this growing up in a church or going to church events, and I guarantee that you’ve heard it at Morris Chapel. It’s one of those ideas that we hear so often that we may not stop to actually think about what it actually means.

As Easter is quickly approaching, I think it’s good that we take time to think about this idea, the idea of coming to Jesus as we are. It’s not a completely radical idea because we’ve, again, most likely heard about it, but it could be considered radical when you consider the culture and world we live. We are surrounded by people who want to tell us who to be, how to dress, how to fix our hair and makeup, where to live, what to drive, and many other things. In other words, we are surrounded by people who lead us to be things that we aren’t.

God, on the other hand, doesn’t want that.

We celebrate the fact that the God who created us out of love doesn’t love us conditionally but unconditionally. We celebrate that God doesn’t love or accept us based on how we look, our career, our family life, our finances, our popu-larity, our possessions, or our location.

We love, serve, and worship a God who loves us for who we are, despite how sinful and disobedient we are. We love, serve, and worship a God who wants us to come before God, and enter into God’s presence, every single day just as we are, with no filters, no lies, no secrets, no doubts, no hesitations. Morris Chapel, that’s a beautiful thing! As we will soon celebrate Easter, and each and every day before and after Easter, remember this love that God has for us, and remember this desire that God has to know us for who we are, and not the person that the world tells us to be.

Donation Request for New Chair Purchase in Fellowship Hall

February 15, 2017, Lucille Ashburn (Chairman-FLC & Fellowship Hall Kitchen Committee) met

with the Property & Facilities Committee to discuss purchasing new folding chairs for the

Fellowship Hall. Our Fellowship Hall dates back to the 1950’s and we continue to replace

and repair as needed. With our facility used for meetings, showers, birthdays, luncheons, etc.

the purchase of chairs are needed. After approval from the Property & Facilities Committee

members, the Kitchen Committee is asking for donations in honor or memory of someone you

wish to remember (checks made out to Morris Chapel UMC with

“New Chairs Fellowship Hall Fund” noted in the memo line). The old

chairs will be sold with proceeds going to the Fellowship Hall Kitchen

and Remodeling Fund. We thank everyone in advance for helping
