Governor's Comments The membership contest winner for the month of May is Lazarus Lopez. There
was a tie between Chuck Rusk and Lazarus Lopez, so a coin was tossed and the
winner was Lazarus Lopez. June's contest is another knife of your choice. So,
get busy and sign up your family, friends and neighbors.
I would like to thank everyone that is helping on different projects around the
Lodge. Especially Richard Osgood, Quent Rusk, Art Lesher, Lazarus Lopez, Don
Gulosh, and yours truly.
The roof repairs is progressing very well. We have purchased tiles for the tile
and it's almost complete. The rest of the roof has been power washed and roof-
ing materials will be applied next.
Lunch menu's are posted in the Lodge. Come on down and join Woody for
lunch.
I want thank everyone that volunteers to prepare meals or comes to the Lodge
and supports by purchasing meals and enjoys the Social Quarters.
Congratulations to Mary Mc Donald, our new Senior Regent. She has some very
good ideas for future functions, so let's get behind her and support her. We are a
Moose Family and need to support "our Moose Family".
By the time you get this bulletin we should have a juke box in the Social Quar-
ters for your enjoyment. We will be scheduling special functions utilizing the
juke box. Check out our calendar of functions and join us for some fun.
Remember think "MEMBERSHIP", and continue to remember
our Children at Mooseheart and
our Seniors at Moosehaven.
Fraternally Ernie Knapp
Governor

A LITTLE OF MOOSE HISTORY
Leadership: Our Directors General
When Paul J. O’Hollaren, a lawyer and insurance executive from Portland, Ore.,
became the Supreme Council’s choice to succeed Heilman, it was the first time
since Davis that a non-employee had assumed the Director General’s chair.
O’Hollaren had of course, been an active Moose for a quarter-century: charter
Governor of his Lodge, President of the Oregon Moose Association, Chief Justice
of the Supreme Forum, and, in 1978-79, Supreme Governor.
Director General O’Hollaren’s whirlwind decade in office saw a full computeriza-
tion and modernization of the fraternity’s business operations; the change of its
corporate name to Moose International; the stirring observances of the organiza-
tion’s Centennial in 1988, a completely updated redesign of the fraternity’s cere-
monial degree regalia (away from headgear and robes to distinctive color-coded
blazers and neckties); a rebuilding of Mooseheart’s utilities infrastructure, and the
residential space for every Mooseheart student and Moosehaven resident.
O’Hollaren retired in February 1994; his successor, Director General Frank A.
Sarnecki, continued the pattern of coming to Mooseheart from the Moose
“volunteer corps.” Sarnecki, a real estate and insurance executive from New Jer-
sey, served as Secretary of the Perth Amboy Lodge for 12 years in the 1960’s and
1970’s; he rose to become Supreme Governor in 1988-89.
In his first few years in office, Sarnecki guided the fraternity into four sweeping
changes: a fully equitable relationship between its men’s and women’s compo-
nents in use of Lodge facilities; a drive to transform those facilities into “Moose
Family Centers’, an extension of Moosehaven eligibility to all Moose men and
women, and an expansion of Mooseheart admissions to accept applications from
all children in need-a move that inspired renowned ABC Radio commentator Paul
Harvey to refer to efforts of the Moose Family fraternity, in an August 1994
broadcast to his 24 million listeners throughout North America, as “a dynamic
demonstration of civilized man’s better self.”

FROM OUR ADMINISTRATOR’S DESK
I would like to thank the following members for their assis-
tance in completing our ongoing roof repairs: Governor Ernie
Knapp, Junior Past Governor Quent Rusk, Trustee Rich Os-
good, Sgt at Arms Lazarus Lopez, Don Goulash, and myself.
We have already stopped several leaks with the repairs to the
tile roof. On June 12th, we power-washed the roof. We will be
sealing the roof on June 19th. We will also be installing a new
bearing in the swamp cooler. Additionally, a special thank you
goes to Lopez for providing the power washer.
Governor Ernie Knapp and I leave on a redeye flight for Nash-
ville on July 1st. We will be in Nashville for the Moose Interna-
tional Convention from July 2nd through July 7th.
Please come attend the Red Rock Moose Lodge’s 30th Birthday
Bash! Date: July 10th Time: 4:00PM-Midnight Cost: Free

Wow What a Little Gem the Cucumber is: Cucumbers contain most of the vitamins you need everyday, just one
cucumber contains Vitamin B1, Vitamin B2, Vitamin B5, Vitamin B6,
Folic Acid, Vitamin C, Calcium, Iron, Magnesium, Phosphorus, Potas-
sium and Zinc.
Feeling tired in the afternoon? Pick up a cucumber. They are a good
source of B Vitamins and Carbohydrates that can last for hours.
Tired of the bathroom mirror fogging up after a shower? Try rubbing a
cucumber slice along the mirror, it will eliminate the fog and provide a
soothing, spa-like fragrance.
Are grubs and slugs ruining you planting beds? Place a few slices in a
small pie tin and your garden will be free of pests all season long. The
chemicals in the cucumber react with the aluminum to give off a scent
undetectable to humans but drive the garden pests away and make them
flee the area.
Looking for a fast and easy way to remove cellulite before going out or
to the pool? Try rubbing a slice or two of cucumbers along your prob-
lem area for a few minutes, the phytochemicals in the cucumber cause
the collagen in your skin to tighten, firming up the outer layer and re-
ducing the visibility of cellulite. Works great on wrinkles too!
Want to avoid a hangover or terrible headache? Eat a few cucumber
slices before going to bed and wake up refreshed and headache free.
Cucumbers contain enough sugar, B vitamins and electrolytes to re-
plenish essential nutrients the body lost, keeping everything in equilib-
rium, avoiding both a handover and headache.
More cucumber gems next month

At our recent convention there was information given how
every member can help Moose charities make a difference in
the lives of our children and seniors.
We have school programs like: General Mills box tops &
Campbell soup labels for education, Coke rewards program,
Tyson project A+, recycle for Mooseheart (cartridges, video
games, DVD’s) and there are many more. Go to
WWW.MOOSEINTL.ORG sign in and go to the Moose chari-
ties link on the left hand side of the page. These are easy and
are probably items you already use so why not save them for
ours kids?

CHAPLAIN’S NOTES

Attorney’s Advice– At No Charge
The next time you order checks have only your initials (instead
of first name) and last name put on them. If someone takes your
checkbook, they will not know if you sign them with just your
initials or your first name, but your bank will know how you
sign your checks.
Do not sign the back of your credit cards. Instead, put “PHOTO
ID REQUIRED”.
When you are writing checks to pay on your credit cards ac-
counts, DO NOT put the complete account number on the
“For” line. Instead, jst put the last four numbers. The credit
card company knows the rest of the numbers, and anyone who
might be handling your check as it passes
through all the check processing channels
won’t have access to it.
More Attorney’s advice in future issues.

From our Sports Committee Chairman
Let me begin with an introduction. My name is Robert Huren. I have been a Moose member for 5 years and a
member of Red Rock for 1 year. I’ve been involved with fraternal organizations for more years than I can count
and most recently with the Fraternal Order of Eagles. My wife, Joline, and I moved back to Las Vegas last year
and have decided that after 25 years of moving around the world in the U.S. Navy and a couple of moves due to
her cancer, we are HOME TO STAY!
Thank you Ernie for this appointment. I believe my counterpart, Dianna (needs no introduction) and I are up to the
task as we are both committed to a successful year.
This DART SEASON has ended and we will have our end of the season dinner on July 18. We will start our next
league season on August 1st. Sign up sheets for regular players and substitutes are on the SPORTS BOARD. If
you might be interested in playing “part time”, subs are always welcome and needed.
I am pleased to report that the DART LEAGUE made at least $250.00 for the sports committee and that doesn’t
include what we make from the Dart Machines.
Also, MOOSE ROLE is back. See rules posted in the Lodge and talk to one of our friendly VOLUNTEER bar-
tenders.
Fraternally, Robert Huren

Who Knew? Did you know that drinking two glasses of Gatorade can re-
lieve headache pain almost immediately-without the unpleas-

Did you know that Colgate Toothpaste makes an excellent

Cure urinary tract infections with Alka-Seltzer. Just dissolve
two tablets in a glass of water and drink it at the onset of the
symptoms. Alka-Seltzer begins eliminating urinary tract in-
fections almost instantly-even thought the product was never
advertised for this use.
