MORRIS CHAPEL UMC Chapel Echoes Newsletter May 4, 2015
Praise the Lord! Earlier this year our sister church Mt. Olivet recognized that their difficult times were becoming more desperate. As a proactive solution the congregation requested to be merged into Morris Chapel – to receive their members and to steward their assets. Our congregation graciously welcomed our brothers and sisters in Christ from another congregation. The merger resulted in Morris Chapel’s membership growing by 29 believers.
Among the ministry assets we have been asked to steward is 3.59 acres of God’s green earth which includes a hallowed Christian burial ground and 3 buildings (sanctuary/education building, fellowship hall, and a house). This month a team elected by the Church Council will begin to envision the opportunities for using these ministry assets in ways to reach new people with the love of Jesus Christ and expand the kingdom of God. In some ways, the merge might be an answer to the prayers petitioning the Lord about our expanding missional outreach running out of space to function effectively. In other ways, our greater Walkertown needs some ministry services that cannot be met on our Darrow Road campus. I am excited to see where God will lead us.
The team that will be envisioning and exploring the utilization ideas for the Mt. Olivet property is called the Gethsemane Vision Team. It takes its name from the garden that sits at the base of the Mount of
Olives (also known as Mt. Olivet) on the east side of Jerusalem, outside the city walls. Gethsemane was the place that Jesus went to pray in the hours before his arrest and crucifixion. In this secluded place, Jesus offered a simple prayer, “Father, not my will, but thy will be done” (Luke 22:42). We are asking this team to empty themselves of personal agendas and seek out God’s will for the Mt. Olivet property (also known for now as Morris Chapel’s North Campus). The team invites you to pray for them and alongside of them.
Guiding the Gethsemane Vision Team through the visioning process will be Church Vitality Specialist René Wilt provided by our Western North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church through our apportionment contributions. René is a leadership coach who has walked along side of congregations as they develop new ministry startups. We thank God for this awesome resource in the journey ahead of us.
Dreaming dreams with you,
Pastor Dan

Welcome to the Morris Chapel Family
We welcome five people to the Morris Chapel family of God. We entered into covenant with them in the Crossroads Worship Experience on May 3, 2015. We are
so blessed that these new family members have chosen to unite with us. Please welcome them with extravagant hospitality.
Chris & Lori Hull and their children Brianna & Emily have found a church family at Morris Chapel. They first attended worship at Morris Chapel for the 25th Anniversary Celebration of our Preschool Ministry as Brianna is a graduating student this year on her way to Kindergarten. She and her sister enjoy being a part of the MC Kids! Chris
is a project manager and foreman with Cole Land & Timber. Lori is a certified medical assistant with Total Family Care of Winston-Salem. Chris & Lori participate
in the Branches of the Vine Sunday School Class and serve as a part of our new First Impressions Team. They live at 6556 Creek Run Road in Walkertown. Thanks to
Ricky & Jan Swaim for encouraging the Hulls to come to Morris Chapel.
Ian Timmons has been a part of Morris Chapel through his courtship of the former Lauren Evans whom he married last August. Ian is in sales with Murray Supply Company. Ian & Lauren participate in the Branches of the Vine Sunday School Class and he is currently serving as a part of the Communications Team studying the needs of our website. The Timmons make their home at 7435 Baux
Mountain Road in Germanton.
We are blessed that the Lord is adding to our number. Please continue to invite friends, relatives, associates, and neighbors to experience the joy and goodness of God through Morris Chapel. Anyone interested in joining the membership of Morris
Chapel is invited to speak with Pastor Dan.
