All of my Prince family descendents were born in Herefordshire. My mother Muriel was born in Brook Cottage, Lingen on June 27th1922. Following her birth this family would spend two years living in the Kington Uinon Workhouse in Kington before they were broughtto Canada, arriving on Mom’s second birthday in 1924. Mom and three of her siblings were then placed for adoption in Ontario, Canada.

Mr. James Nott was born at Letton, Herefordshire on January 11th of 1829. He wasthe son of James Nott and his wife Margaret Edwards. Mr. Nott lived with his familyat the Farlands Farm. Mr. Nott became a Methodist in 1849, then a preacher forupwards of 38 years. Mr. Nott was responsible for the building of two chapels, one

built in 1855 and the other, the Lingen Chapel,in 1878. He was greatly influenced and encour-aged by Mr. W J Gisborne, a member of theKnighton Board of Guardians. Lingen Chapelwas opened by Mr. Gisborne on the 26th ofJune 1877 with a ceremony culminating in a teafor 400.

Mr. Nott married Jane Child in 1855 and together their children included: HenryJames,William John, Beatrice Jane, Florence, Agnes, George, Humphrey Thomas,Maria, and Margaret.

Mr. Nott was held in the highest esteem by his neighbors. He was known to be a kind,gentle man with an open hand. His last day was spent preaching the word and visitingthe sick. He died suddenly and alone outside ofhis home on the 4th of March 1888. Mr. Nottwas 59 years old. His funeral was attended bythe Squire and Vicar of the parish. He wasburied in Lingen Chapel on the 10th of March.

Henry James Nott was the son of Methodist Preacher James Nott and his wife Jane Child. Henry's fatherJames built the Lingen Chapel which was opened in 1877 and is still in use today. Henry was educated atWestley College in Sheffield in the early 1870's. Wesley College provided a higher quality educationcombined with religious training in Methodism. Following his education Henry returned to The Farlands,married Emily Oxtoby. They would have five children. Henry would continue to live on the Farlands, hischildhood home until his sudden death at the age of 50 in 1907.
