Praise the Lord! We are not left alone for our own defense against our enemies. We have a God and Savior on our side and goes before us. We celebrate this truth proclaimed to us in Romans 8:31-35 & 37, “If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not . . . graciously give us all things? Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? . . . . No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.”

This does not mean that we will have a strife free life. The Evil One is alive and well and seeks to separate us from Jesus. God will never leave us, but we have the free will to abandon the faith. Satan will do everything in his power to convince us that it is not worth the suffering being endured. In our faithfulness, our eternity is secure with God the Father.

Last summer, ISIS cleared all the Christians from Mosel, Iraqi. Christian houses of worship were seized and Christian symbols were destroyed. The homes of Christians were confiscated and spray painted with the Arabic letter “nun” to represent the word “Nasrani” or “Nazrene”, terms used to refer to Christians (followers of Jesus of Nazareth). The houses were then tagged with “Property of the Islamic State of Iraq”. Muslim families now call these houses home. And these Iraqi Christians continue to be true to the faith, just exiled in a foreign land. (New York Times, 18 July 2014)

In worship yesterday we remembered our Christian brothers and sisters around the world who are persecuted for their faith. The challenges to our own faith are nothing compared to the suffering they experience. Some of it makes our American news cycle like the Kenyan university student executed for their profession of “Jesus is Lord” just before Easter. However, the video in worship showed us the different ways they are rejected, threatened, beaten, and killed for being a Christian.

Dear Church Family,

As many of you may remember, Pam Bennett Barton was pianist and organist here at MC for more than 20 years and we all loved to hear her play. She was also our choir director for a period. She has continued the use of her talents in her churches in Va. for more than 20 years. She is an amazing pianist and has been my inspiration over the years. I'm excited to tell you that she has put together a CD. It is a collection of many favorites like "His Eye is on the

Sparrow"," Blessed Assurance" and "How Great Thou Art". I have listened to it several times already and it's just beautiful and the music soothing. Sheila Bennett and I both have extra CDs and the price is just $12. Let one of us know if you'd like one; I know you'll enjoy it over and over again. Linda King 595-2886 or email me.

ATTENTION GRADUATES:
