March 13th club meeting featur- ing Lee Tauchen Well fellow FRV members, welcome to March and the beginning of what will be the open water season. The Chicago and Milwaukee Muskie Shows are now behind us and we have made all of those “have to have” pur- chases and have added to our Christmas credit card debit. Now all we need is some time out on the water to test these new purchases out. Our Chapter’s biggest event will be held on Saturday March 23 rd . This is our annual Awards Banquet and Fund Raising Banquet. This year we will have over $30,000 in raffle, silent auc- tion, and door and game prizes to be awarded. As of the writing of this col- umn the pre-registration for this event was at 125 people. Space will be limited to 230 people, so if you are planning to attend get your registration in soon. You will not want to be left out. Details for registration to this event are included in this newsletter. I hope to see you there. I would like to give a big shout out to Kurt Eltvedt from Muskie Tails / Time to Bite up on the Chain. Kurt and Muskie Tails donated $400.00 from the left over funds from his fall Muskie Tournament. These extra fund will help FRV stock an extra 30 – 40 fish next fall in the Chain. Next time you see Kurt, tell him thank you from FRV. Hopefully you were able to attend the Febru- ary meeting. I must say it was one of the better ones that FRV has been able to host. Tony & Greg really packed the fisherman into Chandlers. There were over 80 people in attendance and they were hopefully not dis- appointed. In addition to a great presentation that Tony and Greg put on, FRV also did a number of key presentations. FRV was able to present the Schaumburg High School fishing team with a $500.00 check to help fund their 2019 tournament program. FRV also purchased 20 Fishing Ambas- sador Memberships from Muskie Hunter Magazine. FRV will now be able to give these memberships to some lucky junior members that allow them to receive a subscription for Muskie Hunter for a year. FRV was able to award the Shimano Reel and St. Croix rod from the Muskie Show raffle to new member Jake Bielak. Lastly, I would like to make sure you are all aware of some of our other upcoming events. Our Challunge on the Chain Tournament is coming up on May 18 th . Remember that the entry fee will increase by $20.00 on March 8 th . We have a number of outings planned. Kids Fishing on the Chain in May, Lake of the Woods in July, Pops in Octo- ber and Suckerfest in November. Hopefully you will be able to make it to one or more of these events. THE FOX RIVER VALLEY CHAPTER PROUDLY PRESENTS

LEE TAUCHEN

WENDNESDAY MARCH 13, 2019

AT THE SCHAUMBURG GOLF CLUB

Lee lives in southern Wisconsin and has fished for over thirty-five years in these wa-ters. Twenty plus years as a fulltime guide. Lee will guide you on the Madison Chain for Musky, Pike, Walleye, Catfish and even Panfish. He has put many fifty plus inch-ers in his boat not only for himself, but many very happy clients. See below for his in-fo. Lee also is a lure manufacturer with Lee Lures Custom Baits. Many of his mon-sters are caught with these baits as well as his new bait the Pelagic. You’ll need to check it out. Musky baits are not cheap. Why spend $ 30-$100 per bait when you are using them incorrectly. Lee will be speaking about lure presentations. Maybe his talk can teach us a few things to better our presentations. Lee can be reached at 465 N. Main St. Cottage Grove, WI 53527. His phone number is 608 -444-2180. Don’t miss this great meeting as our monthly club meetings resume!! Grab a friend and come on out and join us! You’ll be glad you did! Admission is $5.00/person at the door. Hope to see you at the meeting! Our meeting begins at 7:00PM at The Schaumburg Golf Club which is located at 401 N. Roselle Road in Schaumburg, IL. All meetings are open to the public. Guests are always welcome!

MEMBERSHIP CORNER P A G E 6

W W W . F R V M U S K I E . C O M

FROM THE MEMBERSHIP CORNER… FROM THE MEMBERSHIP CORNER…

Most of us can’t wait for the blooming weather patterns to settle down and get back to normal temperatures (mid 40’s). Freezing drizzle, strong winds, up & down temperature swings- WOW. I must have purchased 10 or more 50lb. bags of Safety Step ice melt this season. My poor driveway is taking a beating! But we live in the Midwest, so in 48 hours the weather could change! Let’s let our thoughts wander…..Gone Fishing! Those words evoke memories. Days spent wetting a line off a sunbaked dock of a cabin during summer. Pulling the start rope on a

6 HP Outboard Motor, taking off to our favorite spot on the lake. Letting the sun warm our face as we bait a hook. Wor-ry-free thoughts and good times of days gone-by. “Gosh Good Vibes”. Keep those thoughts when you drive to work on a snowy road! Well back to reality! Our next meeting is March 13

th featuring Lee Tauchen a musky guide from Mad-

ison and maker of Lee Lures Custom Baits. Lots of FRV members own his baits! If you own some don’t you should, they are well constructed and catch tons of Muskies and Pike We have a lot going in March, the annual Fishing Flea Market at Rolling Meadows High School is on March 3

rd and runs from 8:00AM-1:00PM. On Saturday March 23

rd the

FRV Awards and Fundraising Banquet will be held at Chandlers in Schaumburg. This is one event that should NOT be missed! We will have a great selection of prizes (over $30,000!!!) lots of good food and fun raffles. On a positive note, attendance at our monthly meetings have been good and so has new member sign-ups. My thanks to all of you who come-out each month and support the FRV Chapter. Remember I am always in the back to assist with renewals, new member registrations and answer questions. Keep The Faith & God Bless,

Frank Lucido

RON FREDRICK TACKLE SALE!!! Many of us who knew Ron, knew him as Mr. Mupco! His sense of humor and contagious smile made him friends to many of us in the FRV Chapter! Ron was an active FRV member who served on our board for many years as our Speaker Director. We spent many nights at board meetings in my basement spinning yarns about fishing up North and laughing until we cried!! Hard to believe that Ron has been gone for two years already; but his legend lives on! His fishing tackle “estate” has been taken over by his son-in law Kurt Dietrich who is trying to sell off some of his tackle. You would need to see it to believe how much gear Ron owned! Many FRV members have been through Kurt’s tackle shop he has set up in his garage. So many lures, hundreds of them, rods, reels, tackle boxes more than you could ever imagine; Ron had. Many baits are brand new in the package including many MI commemorative lures with Chap-ter 39 numbered on them. Kurt is selling off all of these items for literally pennies on the dollar! All proceeds of the sales go to Ron wife Carol. What makes the sale of this special to Kurt and Ron’s family is knowing his FRV friends will be using these lures and rods and reels to catch fish and we all know that Ron would be happy knowing his lures and

tackle are being put to good use! If you want to set up a time to go by Kurt’s house in Bartlett and browse and shop, Kurt’s number is 630-341-9078. You’ll be amazed at how Kurt has everything set up, his garage has been turned into a tackle shop! Hope you can help out their family and pick up some great fishing gear at an unbelievable price!
