It’s still dark out and now that the clocks have been turned back, our daylight hours are numbered! This is a definite reminder that winter is rapidly approaching! There is still time to get out and float a few suckers in search of that big fall fatty! The trolling & casting bite has been hot on places like Green Bay & St. Claire, so if you have the time, take the time to get out & fish these great bodies of water! The rewards could be HUGE for you! The recent cold snap has helped to complete turnover on most of our local lakes here in Northern Illinois & Southern Wisconsin. Turnover signals a time when the lakes “flip” and the warm surface water sinks as the cold bottom tempera- tures rise. This mixing eliminates the thermocline, and once turnover is complete (usually around 52º) the water temps from top to bottom are virtu- ally identical. Turnover can be especially frustrating for us musky hunters during this time, as the musky bite can be tough. Typically the smaller lakes “flip” first and the larger lakes take much longer, due to their overall size & depth. Fish the larger lakes 1 st , while the smaller lakes are in transition. Once the smaller lakes have “flipped” and turnover is complete; you can go back to those “smaller” lakes while the larger lakes are flip- ping. Once the big lakes are done, you can have your pick of lakes to fish both large & small. By doing this you’ll keep fishing throughout the fall turnover process & you won’t miss a beat! For those of you who have already winterized your boats and stored your fishing gear, your thoughts now turn to deer season, hunting ducks and upland game! There is nothing better than watching the sunrise from your favorite deer stand waiting for that huge buck to wander in close enough to get a good shot off with your bow, shotgun or rifle. Good luck to you, be safe, hunt smart and make some memories that will last a lifetime! Our up- coming November 13 th club meeting will feature USA Ice Team member & ice fishing guide Tony Boshold! Tony has traveled all over the world ice fishing and representing the US National Ice Fishing Team & he was the 1 st place winner in the 2010 World Ice Fishing Championship! Tony has ice fished in Poland, the Ukraine, Kazakhstan and all over the USA! Tony eats, sleeps and breathes ice fishing! He’s going to kick off the start of the “hard water” season with a fantastic presentation on ice fishing lake right here in the Mid- west! If you’re a hard water fanatic, this meeting is for you! Tony guides on the ice and has an incredible working knowledge of local lakes and will cover the right presentations to help you put more fish on the ice! Grab a friend and join us for the all you can eat buffet at 6:00 PM followed by Tony’s seminar! Don’t miss meeting! We will also be collecting all of the money & butter braid forms that evening for the Butter Braid Fundraiser! All butter braid orders will be delivered to the December club meeting! Please continue to sell, sell, sell! The monies we raise will go right back into stocking, research and youth programs that our club funds throughout the year! $200.00 in cash will be given out at the December club meeting to the FRV member who sells the most butter braids! Good luck and keep selling! Our December 11 th “year-end” club meeting will feature famous musky guide Chad Cain, who really needs no introduction! He’s been guiding & writing about muskies ever since I can remember. Chad guides on Kincaid in the spring and up in North- ern Minnesota the balance of the year! We will also be doing our canned food drive for the Women’s Shel- ter in Elgin at the December meeting. If you bring a canned good or non-perishable item to the December meeting your admission is free! We do this canned food drive every December to help out those less fortu- nate during the Holidays! They are very appreciative every year when we drop off a truckload of food for the women at the shelter! We will also be doing our lure swap & sell that evening! If you have anything fishing related that you’re not using & want to sell, contact Jimmy Z at [email protected] to reserve your table. The cost is $10.00 to reserve a table! Finally as we move closer to the year-end; we are looking for additional nominees to get on the 2014 FRV board of directors. If you are interested in being nominated for one of those open slots let me know and I will e-mail you an application. All approved nominees will be voted in during the December club meeting. I wish all of you & your families, a Happy Thanksgiving! I hope your 2013 fishing season was filled with fun & laughter and some great memories were made! Until next month….get out & fish! Volunteer Needed as Editor for FRV Newsletter

FRV Muskies is in need of an Editor Volunteer to handle the basic editing functions involved

with producing our Monthly FRV Club Newsletter. Basic writing skills, & any experience with

Microsoft Publisher Software would be good.

My time spent as Newsletter Editor has been very reward-

ing. Having personally worked with the FRV Board, has led

to more great friendships than I could ever have imagined.

Unfortunately, it is my time to hand on the torch…

If you have interest, please contact myself, or any FRV

Board Member…

Thanks,

Dave “the Kac” Lukac

For any Club Member that is a Plaque Qualifier, and would like to

have your Fish Picture added to the Plaque - you MUST submit a

Picture from a Digital Camera, and NOT A CELL PHONE.

Cell Phone Pictures cannot be used, because they do not have good

enough pixel quality, and the image will turn out much too dark...

Thanks,

Jim “Jimmy Z” Ziebka

IMA Meeting Minutes by Francisco Espobanarza Jr. The IMA held its fourth quarterly meeting at Monical’s Pizza in Shelbyville on Novem-

ber 2nd. The meeting was well attended, and there is great news to report. The DNR

was desperate to find fish to stock this year, with only 4,400 fingerlings surviving the

ponds due to a gill disease. Our trading partner Iowa had a similar issue, and could

not be counted on for any fish. The DNR turned to Indiana, and they were able to get

over 13,000 5" fingerlings to stock in their netted ponds. With the Indiana muskies, &

fish that the DNR had on hand, they were able to stock about 50% of the 10-13" fish

they normally would. This is really good, compared to what the outlook could have

been. Lakes like Kinkaid, Evergreen, Fox Chain, Shabbona, Carlton, Pierce, Otter, and

Mill Creek received close to their full allotment of fish. Shelbyville received quite a few

fish as well, but not as many as in the last few years. Illinois has done a great job

raising fish the last few years; hopefully this shortage will be an isolated biological phenomenon.

The nets are bought and paid for, and about half have already been built. Great

news for the biologists who needed them, which includes Frank Jacubicek. It is

estimated that the biologists will get about 20 years use out of them. The IMA

was able to fill the state's requests this year, and they still have a decent amount

of money left over. Great work by all the clubs, and their contributions to the

IMA. With a decent surplus, we requested that the state have their needs ready

by the January IMA meeting at the musky show to get a good head start on the

year..

Forthcoming in 2014 - “Rookie” Musky Angler Outing!! Here’s the Chance for Anglers who are new to Musky Fishing

to “hook up” with FRV Club Veterans on a Guided Outing

This will be an opportunity for newer FRV Club Members to enjoy a Guided Outing with Seasoned

Veterans from the Club: - This outing is tentatively scheduled for June 7, 8, & 9th.

- FRV Muskies will be picking up many of the expenses.

- We will fish the Moose Lake musky haven in Hayward, WI.

- Winners will be drawn at the 2014 FRV Banquet.

- Winners must be present.

- Your Guides will do their best to put you on Fish!!

FROM THE MEMBERSHIP CORNER… For the past three consecutive years our Chapter has remained around (300) mem-

bers. This places our Chapter in tie for 3rd place with one of the Minnesota Chapters…

Size is important, it helps our chapter to provide better speakers, along with more

events and outings. This is the primary reason your membership is important to our

Chapter’s success....

Our biggest challenge is reminding members not to let their memberships expire, so

when you receive a reminder letter from either FRV or MI, please don’t procrastinate,

renew it promptly...

You have the convenience of renewing your membership at the monthly meetings, by email to:

[email protected] or www.muskiesinc.org.

Thank you all for your support and good fishing,
