Hamburg Lions Club Makes Donation to Local Food Pantry

The Town of Hamburg Lions Club recently made dona-tions to five different food pantries who service people in need throughout the Southtowns, including a $1,000 do-nation to the food pantry based inside Southtowns Chris-tian Center on Southwestern Boulevard in Lake View. Ap-proximately 111,000 meals were provided to those in need thanks to the efforts of numerous volunteers who lend a hand on a weekly basis at Southtowns Christian Center. Surrounded by volunteers at the check presentation cer-emony from left are Town of Hamburg Lions Club Secre-tary Robert Pohlman; Hilda Liebner of the the Southtowns Christian Center's Food Pantry; and Town of Hamburg Li-ons Club Past President James Klinger.

Heidelberg honors Samantha Demmerley as scholar-athlete

Heidelberg University presented Landess Scholar-Ath-lete Awards to 148 students at halftime of the men's bas-ketball game Feb. 18. Samantha Demmerley (cheerleading), a junior Educa-tionmajor from Derby, N.Y., was among the students hon-ored for their achievements in the classroom as well as on the athletic field for the fall semester. The Landess Awards were created by William Landess, a 1995 Heidelberg alumnus and member of the university's Board of Trustees, to honor student-athletes who achieve a minimum 3.0 GPA during their semester of competition.

Wall of Fame Nominations Sought In 1992 the Lake Shore Central School District developed the Wall of Fame program for recognizing the outstanding achievements of alumni of the district. These indi-viduals are people who, after graduation, greatly contributed to the well being of our society through their hard work, talents and leadership. Nominees must be a graduate of at least 15 years and may not currently be an employee of the Lake Shore Central School District. Every other year the district holds an induction ceremony in May honoring new inductees. Once again, we have begun the process of selecting a new class for induction. If you know of any alumni who should be considered for this honor, we ask that you provide us with a completed application by Wednesday, March 11, 2015. The Wall of Fame Nomination Form can be downloaded from our website: www.lakeshorecsd.org

Each nominee will be reviewed by the district committee for possible induction into the “Wall of Fame”. Individuals who are selected will be afforded a place on the “wall” with a picture and biographical information. In addition, it will be expected that the honoree address our high school students, with a reception being held in their honor.

This year’s Wall of Fame Induction Ceremony & Reception is scheduled for June 4, 2015.

Southtowns Catholic School Makes Ice Cream

Students in Miss Diane Knopeck's Kindergarten class took advantage of all the fresh snow and made ice cream. The kids took turns measuring the fresh clean snow, milk, vanilla and sugar. The shoot was held at the Westfalls Conservation Club, and all participants did a great job shooting. Many awards were
