Also surviving is her long-time companion David Keem of Angola and 2 aunts, June Panek of Fredonia & Jeanne Sobec ki of Forestville. She was predeceased by her brother Terry Wilson, who died in 1993. LS BOYS VARSITY SOCCER WINS SENIOR NIGHT GAME The Lake Shore Boys Varsity Soccer team defeated visiting Cheektowaga by a score of 6-1 on senior night on Friday, October 11th. Senior captain Wade Bergum scored four goals and assisted on two others in the lop-sided win. Senior captain Bryce Parker-Norton played the field and opened the scoring in the first minute. Jake Coz-zo scored the other Eagle goal, and Andrew McDonagh and Tom McTernan added assists in the match with Mike Braeuner playing well in goal. Lake Shore's league record now stands at 7-4 in league play and 9-5 overall.

LAST GAME OF THE SEASON ENDS IN A DRAW

The Lake Shore Boys Varsity Soccer team played to a scoreless draw with Amherst on Wednesday night October 16th. Senior captain Bryce Parker-Norton was in net for the shutout, while both teams defended well and allowed few chances. The Eagles final regular season record is 7-4-1 in league play and 9-5-1 overall. With the tie, Lake Shore clinched second place in their league and the third seed in class A2 sectional play. Lake Shore will host the number six seed on Wednesday October 23rd in quarterfi-nal action.

Safe ways to trick-or-treatWhat would Halloween be without trick‑or‑treating? For youngsters, so much of the fun of Halloween involves scouring the neighborhood with friends in search of candy. While children may have their eyes on the sweet prize, parents may be concerned about their little ones’ safety.The United States Census Bureau says that an average of 41 million trick‑or‑treaters venture out every year across the country, and roughly 106 million homes are solicited for candy and other treats on this holiday. Such a high number of people out on the streets increases the risk of injury, and it can be easy for kids to get lost as well. According to Kate Carr, president and CEO of Safe Kids Worldwide, a network of organizations geared toward preventing unintentional childhood injury, “Hal‑loween is an important night for parents to be extra vigilant.” But Halloween seems to lessen one’s inhibitions, and wearing a costume and being hidden from others can encourage some revelers to engage in atypical and unsafe behaviors. To ensure everyone has a safe and fun Halloween, here are some safety tips to follow.• Go in groups. Children can be accompanied by their parents while older children should be encouraged to trick‑or‑treat in groups. Should an emergency occur, having a group of friends around enables someone to call for help or alert an adult.• Use a flashlight. When trick‑or‑treating at night, take steps to improve vis‑ibility. This includes using reflective tape on costumes and carrying a flashlight or glow sticks so that other pedestrians as well as drivers will be able to see children.• Walk on sidewalks. Wherever possible, trick‑or‑treaters should use sidewalks and crosswalks. Avoid walking in the street, where the risk of being hit by a car is considerable. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says twice as many kids are hit by a car while walking on Halloween than any other day of the year.• Avoid distractions. Trick‑or‑treaters should not be wearing earbuds or talking on a phone while trick‑or‑treating. They should be paying attention to their sur‑roundings and using caution.• Do not enter homes. If an adult or even a youngster whom a child does not know offers entry to the home, the trick‑or‑treater should not enter. Let kids know they should only enter the homes of known friends, and even then they should only do so after getting permission from a parent.• Consume only factory-wrapped treats. Well‑meaning people may hand out cupcakes or marshmallow cereal treats. The ingredients such people used and the safety of these treats cannot be confirmed, so it is best to stick with storebought items instead.• Wear well-fitting shoes. Shoes that are uncomfortable or loose can cause children to fall and risk injury.• Adults should drive carefully. All drivers should slow down and anticipate children darting out into the roadways on Halloween. Drive slowly and pay at‑tention to the roads.

The North Evans Volunteer Fire ompany honored Paul Sterner of North Evans on October 1, 2013 for his 50 years of active service with the North Evans Volunteer Fire Company. Paul joined the company exactly 50 years ago to the day 10/1/1963.Paul has served as an officer with the fire company for 48 years, including 46 consecutive years as treasurer. Today, Paul is still very active responding to alarms, attending trainings and meetings, while still serving as Treasurer.Present were many members of Paul’s family, exempt company companys, ladies auxiliary members, District Commissioner’s, and most of the active membership of the fire company.

LEVERENZ BECOMES NATINAL CERTIFIED TOW OPERATOR

Matthew J. Leverenz, an employee of Tick-Tock Tow-ing was awarded the title of Certified Tow operator by the National Driver Certification Program this week. The Level 1, Light Duty test comprising of 100 multiple choice questions is designed to measure the driver’s knowledge of what the towing industry perceives as the five key com-ponents of quality delivery, customer service; operation safety; incident management; tow truck operation and equipment/tool operation. The National Driver Certification Program was partial-ly funded in its development by a grant from the Federal Highway Administration and the TRAA Education Foun-dation. One of the major goals of the program is to pro-duce a pool of skilled, safe, professional tow operators for the towing industry which will have a positive impact on the monitoring public. NOTICE - VILLAGE OF ANGOLALEAF AND BRUSH PICKUP

The Village of Angola Department of Public Works will pick up leaves as con-ditions warrant, with the heaviest areas of concentration receiving priority. Please note that weather conditions, unforeseen work or repairs, and the different variety of trees prohibits following set schedule.

We cover 33 lane miles of streets in the Village. We WILL get to every street, some of them more than others, obviously. The following procedures will help us complete this task in a timely manner.

1. Leaves can only be picked up along the curb as the mulcher picks up mechanically (3 ft.) 2. Remaining leaves should be raked to the curb for future pickup. 3. Leaf piles with branches, rocks, or other debris cannot picked up due to imminent damage to the machine.

NOTE: Do not pile leaves in the street. This is dangerous for drivers.

BRUSH PICK UP SCHEDULED FOR THE THIRD WEEK OF EARLY SPRING THROUGH NOVEMBER.

If you wish to dispose of leaves in an alternate fashion, remember that they can be bagged and put out as part of your 8-bag limit for normal weekly refuse pickup.
