The Release of the DovesA holiday remembrance for those who have lost a loved one.

The Lakeside Memorial Funeral Home continues a yearly holiday tradition of respect and remembrance with the release of white doves from a basket at the funeral home located on the corner of Camp Road and Route 5 in Hamburg, at 2 PM on Sunday, November 24, 2013.

Individual family representatives wishing to take part in this community event to remember their loved ones will be allowed to release biodegradable balloons in their memory.

There will also be a special gift for all adult participants who attend the event. The Hospice Foundation will give a presentation. Music will be performed by “Heart to Heart” and Cory Gallagher. Hot chocolate, coffee and cookies will be provided.

ELEANOR MINNIE FOIT (nee Kreamer)

Eleanor Minnie Foit (nee Kreamer), age 79, died Sat-urday, November 2, 2013. She was born February 9, 1934 in Angola, New York. She was the daughter of George and Bertha (Ratzel) Kreamer. She married her loving husband James H. Foit on February 6, 1954. She worked alongside her husband James for over 50 years in the Foit Floor Covering Company. She also was a seamstress for over 60 years. She was a member of and volunteered countless hours at the St. James Unit-ed Church of Christ. She also volunteered at the Au-tumn View Manor Nursing Home. She was a member of the East Eden Home Bu-reau for many years; also a member of the Boston Se-niors Young at Heart. She was known as an avid bowler and enjoyed spectating her grandchil-dren’s sports and musical events. She was the devoted wife of James H. Foit, Sr. who died April 16, 2003; the loving mother of Debi (Kim) Lickfield, James Jr. (Sharon) Foit, Lisa (Rich-ard) Lindner, Julie (Joseph) Poliseno, Timothy (Mary) Foit, Jeanne (Jim) Sobczak and Michael (Annie) Foit.Sister of Sylvia (Bill) Ro-bison, Barbara (late Frank) Reuter and George (Judy) Kreamer. PUMPKIN SALE FUNDRAISER Sarah and Shawn Schneider of Derby have once again sold pumpkins and corn stalks they grew to raise money for a worthy cause. Sarah is a senior at Immaculata Acad-emy and Shawn is a sophomore at St. Francis. Pumpkins and corn stalks were sold in their front yard and at the Ev-ans Ace Hardware store. This year they have raised $1250 and are donating the money to make improvements at the Derby Veterans Park on Route 5. The money will be used to purchase plaques depicting the Korean conflict and the World Trade Center attack. It will also be used to purchase a brass eagle and praying hands. The Schneider teens have raised over $8,000 in the last 8 years and donated the money to various charities. The Veterans Park is a project of the Evans Township Lions Club. Many improvements have been made over the last few years and the park has been slowly expand-ing. The donation check was presented on Veterans Day to Lion Chuck Militello the Chairman of the Lions Veterans Park committee.

ERIE 2 BOCES EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES PROGRAM

Lake Shore High School's Patrick Summar, center, per-forms CPR while fellow classmate Shelby Roberts [East Aurora], left, assists under the supervision of Diana De-Carlo. The CPR training was a joint effort between the Erie 2 BOCES Southside Academy's Emergency Medical Services and Sports Conditioning and Exercise Science classes led by instructors Mark Aquino and Paul Sheph-ard. The classes include hands-on practice with adult, child, and infant mannequins and actual AED equipment to prepare them for real life situations. Students will re-ceive their CPR certification after passing both written and practical examinations.

FALL FRESHMAN-PARENT CHALLENGE NIGHT

On your mark, get set, GO! That was how the Fall Freshman-Parent Challenge Night began this past Tues-day, November 7th at Lake Shore High School. Specifi-cally, freshmen and their parents/guardians had to work together academically, physically and mentally using their critical-thinking skills to complete five, separate challeng-es placed throughout the high school. Once freshmen an-swered academic questions from their Academy teachers, they were off with their parent-partners to have some fun! Following the challenges, freshmen and their guests were invited to a feast in the Freshman Academy Hall where homemade treats (made generously by our parents) await-ed them. It was a great night of team building, but none of this would have been possible without our great students, their wonderful parents and our supportive administration led by principals Ms. JulieAnn Hoerner and newly-hired vice-principal, Mr. Matthew Fisher. A special thanks also goes out to Bouncy Jumper (the Chaplin Family) for sup-plying the night with our great bounce-houses and joust-ing pen. THIRD GRADERS CREATE CONTINENTS Lake Shore students in Mr. Renzo's third grade class at the John T. Waugh School recently completed their ge-ography unit. The children took the knowledge they had gained and created their own continent. Each child's con-tinent needed to have rivers, a gulf, a mountain range three countries within the continent, two cities, a peninsula, and more. MUSIC STUDENTS GOING TO AREA ALL-STATE FESTIVAL

Brianne Ingrao and Zach Zafuto, both seniors at the Lake Shore Senior High, were chosen to represent the school at this year’s Area All-State Music Festival on No-vember 22nd & 23rd. All 4 counties of Western New York are included in this competition. During this past Spring students auditioned by learning a solo, as well as perform-ing scales and sight reading. Students who received the highest scores are invited to take part in intense rehearsals leading up to a concert at King Concert Hall on the SUNY at Fredonia campus. Brianne will be performing with the Symphony Orchestra while Zach will be singing with the Mixed Chorus. SOUTHTOWNS CATHOLIC SCHOOL SPANISH PROJECT

Mrs. Ann Cooper's Grade 6 Spanish Class celebrated "El Dia de los Muertos" or "Day of the Dead". It is celebrat-ed the 1st week of November in the Mexican culture. In Mexico, Spain and even parts of the United States, Day of the Dead is an integrated part of the Catholic Religion. It is a time to celebrate the dead, not mourn them. The kids each had to design an alter honoring a person who had died. Each alter had to include; a picture, 3 colors (purple for pain, white for hope & pink for celebration), artifacts that the person enjoyed while they were alive and foods enjoyed by the deceased.
