We celebrate this feast of Transfiguration, that our faith would not be incomplete, so that hearing

the words of the Apostle Peter: “Lord, how good it is for us to be here!” – we would not forget what is

good and what is bad. So that seeing this extraordinary light we would always distinguish light from

darkness. Never yet has it been so bad in the world, never yet has it been as dark as at present. How

dark it becomes all around! With each passing year we see with greater realism how the world lies in in‐

iquity, and how darkness thickens the world.

The Transfiguration is a central mystery of Christ’s life. John tells us that in the Incarnation, the

Word of God pitched his tent among us, fulfilling what was celebrated and longed for. The Transfigura‐

tion recalls the old covenant of Sinai and looks forward to the New Covenant. It confirms Peter’s confes‐

sion that Jesus is the Messiah, but also reveals that the Messiah saves us through the exodus of the

Cross. It looks back to Jesus’ Baptism and looks forward to Jesus’ Resurrection. It is a manifestation of

the glory that the Son received eternally from the Father, but also looks forward to the glory He will re‐

ceive through His Passion, Death and Resurrection, and is a foretaste of the glory of His second coming.

The Transfiguration occurred not so much for the sake of the Lord as for the sake of His disciples: He

became transfigured before them, and a voice from heaven spoke to them. Even if they did not fully un‐

derstand Him then, nevertheless, this was a decisive moment in the revelation to them of the mystery of

God and the mystery of man. Although they had to be silent on this subject until by means of His death

on the Cross came His Resurrection, for them this always remained the foundation of their preaching.

So many people today have lost the sense of the sacred and divine and have lost the sense of their

true origin and true destiny. May we be given the Divine grace to have our skepticism, doubt, shame and

discouragement be transformed and healed by the unconditional love and mercy of God and truly believe

we are a redeemed people whose destiny is to be glorified in heaven with the transfigured and glorified

Christ, let us listen to Him. Amen.

Wishing you an abundance of God’s grace and peace,

Fr. Robert K Chinnapan

August 2017

Dear Parishioners,

I hope you are enjoying your summer and thank you once again for your continued partnership. We truly appreciate your support with our summer program, Galileo.

The theme for the school year is Unity.

“Unity does not imply uniformity; it does not necessarily mean doing everything together or thinking in the same way. Nor does it signify a loss of identity. Unity in diversity is actually the opposite: it in-volves the joyful recognition and acceptance of the various gifts which the Holy Spirit gives to each

one and the placing of these gifts at the service of all members of the Church. It means knowing how to listen, to accept differences, and having the freedom to think differently and express oneself with complete respect towards the other who is my brother or sister. Do not be afraid of differences!”

Pope Francis We are looking forward to another great school year and the strengthening of our connection with the Parish.

SPN alumni are invited to a special Alumni event on October 21st. We are celebrating all SPN alumni by hosting an alumni Mass at 5:00 at SPN, followed by a pasta dinner in the Hall.

Help spread the news and let all alumni know they are invited and to please RSVP to Lori Bustos at [email protected].

Peace and blessings,

Jessica Murray Principal
