Pray daily and listen for how He is calling each of us to joyfully use our gifts to fulfill His salvation plan.

National Vocation Awareness – let’s be creative Our priests are being called into great heroic action by offer-ing the sacraments, finding creative ways to serve parishion-ers, and maintaining less than full churches with limited staff support in the midst of the pandemic. In response, Houston-based Vocation Ministry is launching its annual “Uplift Your Priest” campaign from April 12-23, 2021. The campaign is designed to inspire the laity to support and encourage their priests. We need to let our clergy know that their people rec-ognize their daily sacrifices.

DAILY IDEAS TO UPLIFT YOUR PRIEST: • Call/text/email/write your priest

• Send spiritual bouquets to him • Pray, fast, and offer sacrifices for him • Make a family video message/song of affir-mation for him • Post a picture of your family with your priest • Drop off or have meal delivered

• Challenge & tag three families to pray a Rosary for him on social media

When posting on Social Media: 1. Use Social Media Frame on Facebook Up-lift Your Priest 2. Tag Vocation Ministry in your Facebook/Instagram Posts 3. Use the Hashtags #Upliftyourpriest

#Vocationministry

K of C State Essay Champion - Sabrina Haas 8th grade “How Does the Future of the Church Give Me Hope”

Sponsor: Napoleon K of C 4496 Sabrina writes:

I have been a member of St. Philip Neri Catholic Church my whole life. It is a church that makes you feel at home, and you can go to when you are in the need of God. This church has amazing people: priests, deacons, and faithful lay commu-nity. I desire for my future to receive these sacra-ments; marriage, the baptism of my children, and to attend Sunday Masses with my family next to me at St. Philip Neri Catholic Parish, learning about God. I love this church and will stay faithful to it. For I believe God called me to be in Napoleon and to St. Philip Neri to improve the community and help the parish grow and hopefully make it brighter. This past week, I talked with my priest because I desired to begin a junior high bible study group.

Fr. Pfeifer said “yes!”, and gave me the permis-sion to proceed. I was excited to see so many people attend the bible study for the first night. We would not have been able to sponsor a bible study without the church for a meeting place. The church provided a space to feel closer to God as well as protection and security. Some big milestones I celebrated in my church are Sunday Mass, religion, First Holy Commun-ion, and baptism. These milestones will stay with me forever since St. Philip Neri Catholic Church was where I received God for the first time and had all my original sins washed away. The future of this church will be great as the building will be here infinitely and the faith of the followers is strong. It will be a place where peo-ple will go to praise the Lord the next 40 to 50 years, because God will protect a church of glory.

Question: Why does the date of Easter change every year, while most other celebrations

are celebrated on the same day?

Answer: Every feast is celebrated at a certain time for a reason. Saints feast days are com-

monly the day of their death. While we don’t know Jesus’ exact birthday, we celebrate the

“light of the world” around the time of winter solstice, as dark, wintery days begin to length-

en again. We have a historical clue, however, to when the Easter events occurred. We

know that Jesus was crucified the day before Passover. The Jews calculated the date for

Passover based on both the solar and lunar calendars. It corresponds to the first full moon

after the spring equinox. The early Christians maintained this connection in their celebra-

tions of Easter on the first Sunday after the paschal full moon.

We don’t re-calculate the full moon every year. As astronomy developed, so too did the

forecasts of when Easter would occur. The Church has created a table of calculated

dates, projecting the date of Easter decades in advance. The date of Easter also deter-

mines the date of Ash Wednesday and the season of Lent, as well as the feast days follow-

ing in the Easter season, including Pentecost. So these feasts move, too! This tradition may

seem complicated, but it connects our Christian faith now to what has come before — our

Jewish roots and the real, historical reality of Christ’s suffering, death, & resurrection.

Did you Know? A long-standing tradition in the

Church has designated each day of the week with

a particular theme to be recognized at the Mass.

Sunday — Resurrection of Jesus

Monday — Souls in Purgatory

Tuesday — Holy Angels

Wednesday — St. Joseph

Thursday — Eucharist

Friday — Passion of Jesus

Saturday — Our Lady
