Dear Sisters and Brothers in the Lord, Welcome to Sacred Heart Church
I rejoice in your presence with the Sacred Heart worshiping community as we celebrate our Eucharistic Liturgy for the 15th Sunday in Ordinary Time. Your prayerful participation is a source of blessings
for all gathered in this sacred place. Thanks for joining us! In today’s First Reading from the Book of the Prophet Amos, the priest of Bethel, Amaziah, has had enough of Amos’ criticisms. Amos warned the Israelites about their hypocritical worship at Bethel and their tolerance of social injustice. “Off with you, visionary, flee to the land of Judah!, says Amaziah. Amos acknowledges that he was a shepherd, not a prophet. It was the Lord who called Amos and sent him “to my people Israel.” God’s call moves Amos to abandon his flock, to speak on behalf of God. The priest and the people refused to listen. In today’s Gospel, the “Twelve” are summoned by Jesus. They have been called to speak on behalf of Jesus. They were sent in pairs “and preached repentance.” Repent, translated from a Hebrew word meaning “to turn,” challenged the people to turn away from their present lifestyles. Following Jesus called for adjustments in one’s life. Some refused to repent, to change. As baptized Catholics, we, too, have been called to speak on behalf of God. We are to question man’s worship of material possessions! We are to point out injustice! We are to preach repentance! We are to seek justice! Resistance when we speak on behalf of Jesus is to be expected. Some will not listen when our words are based on the Gospel of Christ. May the Risen Lord provide us with the grace to speak on His behalf, even
in the midst of man’s resistance.
Peace be with you!
God bless,
Fr. McKee

There is something about the changed pace of our lives during the summer months that makes it a little easier to dedicate time to our spiritual growth. Here is one more suggestion to help you focus on your relationship with God: 3. TAKE NAPS Summer is the perfect time to take naps. And napping can be a spiritual exercise because it encourages us to trust. Here's how Edward Hays puts it in Pray All Ways.: "The front door of sleep is bodily rest, but where does the back door lead? The back door leads to the Prayer of Napping as an external sacrament of the inner ability to 'let go' of managing every aspect of our lives." So give in to that urge to snooze. Afterwards you may just rejoice with Issa who wrote the following haiku: "Napped half the day; / No one / punished me!" Trust that God continues to watch over us in our sleep!

WHAT DRAWS PEOPLE INTO THE CATHOLIC FAITH?
While there are many different circumstances that lead a person in the direction of Catholicism, the simple answer is, “Because God has called them.” Most often, God calls to us through the people closest to us, through our families and friends. Most who have entered the Church have been influenced by a Catholic
spouse, fiancé, or close friend. For many of these people, a desire to raise their children in the knowledge of God spurred them to action. What
is this, if not the action of the Holy Spirit? SO ...Do you know someone who may
wish to become Catholic? *OR ... Are you a baptized Catholic but
Have never been Confirmed or received First Eucharist?
