 What are we up to?

•  We’re raising awareness.

o

o   We’ve addressed our student body on countless occasions, promoting the latest methods of energy efficiency within our

campus.o

o  We’ve conducted mass “e-waste” drives, collecting large amounts of electronics which would have otherwise been disposed of improperly, and in turn, we are doing our share for theenvironment.

o

o   We’ve established “one flush” urinal systems to reduce waterconsumption.

 What are we up to?

•  We’re devising next-generation concepts.

o

o  We spend a great deal of our time thinking up innovative ways to beincreasingly energy efficient in our efforts to create a greener

 world.o

o Three main plans: Wind, Sun, Plastic.

The Wind Plan

• The Wind Plan is the most original element of our team’smission.

o Milken Community High School’s campus is located directly

alongside the 405 Freeway. We’ve decided to take advantage of  winds generated by cars on the highway as a means of poweringour school by placing concrete barriers with integrated, piezoelectric wind turbines along the road.

o Benefits of the plan include a feasible architecture, a profitable andefficient storage technique, and a phenomenal environmentalimpact.

•12: area for wiring to transfer energy toutility grid•

•14, 15: metal bars for support andprotection

The Wind Plan

• The Wind Plan is still a project in its research anddevelopment stages. As such, it is not available forimmediate implementation.

The Sun Plan

• In comparison to all other plans, the Sun Plan will have thegreatest environmental and financial impacts.

o Mass solar production of electricity was never given the attention it

required to become a reality at Milken.•

o Green MAST has spent vast amounts of time collecting utility usagedata and researching the latest advancements in the solar powerindustry.

The Sun Plan

• The Sun Plan provides for a zero-emissions school campus.•

o Proposals collected by the Green MAST team show that Milken hasthe capacity to support a solar panel system which would not

only generate enough electricity to power the entire school, butalso would be able to generate excess energy.

o

o California’s utility policies allow the school to “sell back” all excesselectricity it generates as it transfers it back into the state grid. The result is a long-term return on the institution’s initial, multi-

million dollar investment.

The Sun Plan

•  With proper funding, the Sun Plan would be rolled out in segments.o

o Green MAST will first install panels on the school’s smallest rooftop, and with increased funding, move on to the larger rooftops.

o

o The first building’s installation will cost an estimated $215,000 afternumerous rebates and incentives. Utilizing the highest efficiency panelson the market, we’d be able generate about 20% of our school’s monthly electricity usage.

The Plastic Plan

• The Plastic Plan is comprised of four phases which will lowerthe usage of environment damaging materials.

o Phase One: Recycle and Collect Reimbursement.

o

o Phase Two: Distribute Eco-Friendly Bottles.

o

o Phase Three: Implement “Water Wells”.

o

o Phase Four: Restrict Sales of Disposable Bottles.

The Plastic Plan

• Phase One: Recycle and Collect Reimbursement.•

o   An estimated 150 bottles go un-recycled on our campus every school day. Green MAST plans to strategically place newly

purchased recycling bins around the Milken campus in hopes tocollect cash refunds for the bottles and cans deposited into the bins by students.

o

• Phase Two: Distribute Eco-Friendly Bottles.•

o Utilizing current partnerships formed between Milken Community High School and various bottle manufacturers, Green MAST willsell eco-friendly bottles at a loss in order to make a smoothtransition to a more eco-friendly system. Collectedreimbursement from Phase One will aid the losses of Phase Two.

o

o

The Plastic Plan

• Phase Three: Implement “Water Wells”.•

o   We have formed an original, innovative concept of establishingfilling stations around campus in hopes to conserve waste in

both plastic and water usage. Our campus has already installedthe necessary piping to accommodate the installation of thesestations.

o

• Phase Four: Restrict Sales of Disposable Bottles.•

o Once all three previous phases of the Plastic Plan are in effect,Green MAST plans to place restrictions on the number of bottlesable to be sold at school. We will normalize costs by reverting tothe sale of the bottles at market price, and we will also increasethe prices of disposable bottles sold on campus in an effort to

stunt consumption.
