Pastor's Message for

the Month . . .

“God's compassion is new every morning

Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. I say to myself, “The Lord is my

portion; therefore I will wait for him.” Lamentations 3:22-24 (NIV)

We give thanks for all of God’s blessings in this past year. He has been with us in times of challenge as well as on occasions of great joy. In our congregational life He has empowered our ministry together. We give thanks that through a generous outpouring of support it appears that we were able to make up most of the substantial deficit that we experienced. We thank God for His faithfulness and thank the congregation for its faithful response also. As we move into this new year let us thank God each day for His blessings. Let us seek His guidance on decisions to be made and challenges to be faced. Let us take time to examine our own lives and see if there are areas that need change or growth. Are we spiritually as close to the Lord as we ought to be? Are we serving Him in the ways that He would have us serve? As we make resolutions to diet more or exercise more let us also resolve to spend more time in worship, study of God’s Word and sharing in fellowship and service with God’s people. As we do so, we will see God’s blessings all the more. As the Irish Blessing says: “May the road rise up to meet you” and “may God hold you in the palm of His hand”. REGULAR SCHEDULE RESUMES ON JANUARY 8 On January 8 we will observe the Baptism of our Lord. We return to our spring schedule of worship at 8:00 and 9:30 a.m. and Sunday School at 9:30 a.m. SUNDAY SCHOOL RESUMES ON JAN 8 We’ll see you on January 8, as our Sunday School classes resume at 9:30 a.m. Many thanks to our talented students for sharing Symbols of

Christmas with the congregation on December 11. The acting, music, costumes and scenery were the result of our students and staff bringing their talents together for this delightful production. We look forward to seeing everyone soon in Sunday School, and welcome new students to join us, from age 4 through grade 8! ANNUAL REPORTS DUE Annual reports are due by Sunday, January 15. You may e-mail them to the church office. DEDICATION OF NEW MEMORY UNIT AT TWINING VILLAGE Twining Village, a Diakon Lutheran Senior Living Community, in Holland announces the dedicatiion of a new memory unit at the Manor. The service will be held on Thursday, January 26 at 4:30 p.m. SOUPER BOWL OF CARING On Sunday, February 5 Advent will once again take a special collection for Souper Bowl of Caring. All donations will go directly to the food pantry in Warminster. Checks should be made out to Advent Lutheran Church and designated “Souper Bowl”. ANNUAL CONGREGATIONAL MEETING The annual meeting for review of reports will be held on February 26 following the 9:30 service.

FELLOWSHIP TIME We need committees or individuals to sign up to provide refreshments after

the late service. The sign-up sheet for January - February is on the fellowship table. Advent supplies hot beverages (i.e. coffee & tea) and all paper products.

OFFERING ENVELOPES & CALENDARS Offering envelopes and calendars for 2017 are available in the narthex. If you do not have envelopes and would like them, please contact the Financial Secretary, Kathryn Urbanizk (215-968-2675). There are also calendars provided by Fluehr’s Funeral Home. Feel free to take several. SIGN-UPS FOR 2017 The sign up sheets for altar flowers and for the support of our sister church, Iglesia Luterana Nueva Creacion for 2017 are on the table in the narthex. One bouquet of flowers is $22 and one week of mission support is $25. There is also a signup sheet for January - April on the fellowship table for anyone who would like to provide snacks following the 9:30 service. PRAYER REQUESTS Please remember in your prayers the following Advent member and friends who are ill, hurting or homebound. Joel Denis recovering after hip surgery. Vickie Flint to undergo surgery. Emma Giacomucci at home. Dan Gracey with leg problems. Carolyn Morrison undergoing treatments. Madelaine Sjostorm in Finland recovering after heart surgery. WITH SYMPATHY Advent expresses its sympathy to the family of Advent member Hank Haaf who was living in California. Hank died on December 16 of a heart attack at age 75. Expressions of sympathy may be sent to Karen Rolf at 6754 Crow Canyon Road, Castro Valley, California 94552. Advent also expresses its sympathy to Tom and Jennifer McQuiggan on the death of Jennifer’s niece Holly Anne Wilson. We have also learned of the death of Peter G. Noll, age 67, who died on December 24. Peter was a former member of Advent. His mother Edie died on August 28, 2015. May God’s comfort be with each of their families at their time of loss.

CONGRATULATIONS ON BIRTH Advent expresses its congratulations to the following members on the recent birth of children: To Jay and Ashley Collins on the birth of a daughter Ainsley Anne on December 13 at Valley Birth Place, Hungdon Valley. To Will and Caitlin Eagles on the birth of a daughter Hailey Elizabeth on December 14 at Doylestown Hospital. May God’s Blessings be with each of these families on this joyous occasions THANKS FOR CHRISTMAS CELEBRATION Advent expresses its thanks to all who decorated our church for the Christmas season. Also thanks for all involved with the brunch, the angel tree project, and the 3 services on Christmas Eve. It was wonderful to see many former members of Advent over the Christmas holiday.

THE ARMED FORCES Please keep in your prayers all our service men and women and especially those related to our congregation: US Air Force Major Andrew Frey was promoted to Lt. Colonel and is now Commander of the Third Weather Squadron at Fort Hood Texas, which is the largest weather Squadron in the Air Force and supports the Army’s First Cavalry’s Division. US Air Force Major Fred Gouse is a pilot and instructor stationed at Holloman AFB, New Mexico. US Army Colonel (Ret.) Jeff Williams is serving in Dubai, UAE as a military advisor.
