*February 19th CLC is celebrating “Bold Women’s Sunday.” We will be lifting up our “Quilters” for the bold and amazing work that they do.

*In March we will be kicking off our “Phoebe” pro-ject. We will be helping our partners in South Africa to provide solar power for their hospital. More infor-mation coming as the date gets closer.

Project Updates

*Quilting began January 9th.

Every Monday at 1:00 PM our CLC Quilters will be working on their 2017 projects. All are invited to help. Don’t worry about sewing skills; there is al-ways a need to help in many different ways.

*New Bible Study Group.

On January 13, we began our new Women’s Bible Study. All women are welcome (and bring your friends too). Pastor Katherine will lead the study every Friday at 10:00 AM. Contact Nita Enderson if you are interested.

We will be following the scriptures from our Wednesday service.

*Spring Cleaning!

Cleaning the Church Kitchen will be in March. More information will be coming.

*CLC Women of the ELCA Planning Retreat.

On January 14th the Coordinating Team met to plan for the needs and events for the 2017 year. After calling the meeting to order, President Cheryl McDougall started the meeting with prayer. Our first order of business was election of officers. The 2017 officers are the same as 2016 and are listed at the beginning of this article. The Team developed the 2017 Calendar of Events. The calendar will be avail-able by March 1st.

February Meeting: The CLC Women of ELCA will be meeting after our Church Service the 2nd Sunday of each month. We invite women to join us and give input and ideas – February we will be dis-cussing our Funeral Procedures and a usage guide-line for our new tablecloths.

Sunday School: Sunday School classes will resume on Sunday, February 5th @ 10:10am. The students will continue their 3rd rotation lesson, The

Disciples, in their individual classrooms.

First Communion for 4th

Grade Students Beginning in March First Communion classes for the 4th Grade Students will begin on Sunday, March 12th and continue on

Sundays, March 19th and 25th from 10:20am – 11:20am, during the SS hour. The final Fir st Com-

munion class and First Communion Celebration will be held on Palm Sunday, April 9th. Letters and addi-

tional information will be mailed out to all 4th grade parents during the first week of March.

Confirmation: Wednesdays, February 1st, 8th, 15th & 22nd

7th – 9th Grade Regular Class @ 5:30pm

CONFIRMATION STUDENT/PARENT/MENTOR ORIENTATION:

The Confirmation Student/Parent./Mentor Orientation will be held Wednesday, February 22nd @ 5:30pm

in the Sanctuary. We will be covering student, parent and mentor expectations and this year’s Lenten

booklet for the students. Also, 2017 Easter Breakfast information, responsibilities and signups will be

distributed for all students and parents

Wednesday Night Lenten Soup Suppers CLC’s Wednesday Night Lenten Soup Suppers will begin on Wednesday, March 8th @

5pm and will continue on Wednesdays, March 15th, 22nd, 29th and April 5th, Abundant

Table Meal. The meals will be served from 5:00pm – 6:30pm. Please plan to join us for

a bowl of warm soup, fresh baked buns and some fellowship before the Wednesday night

Lenten Services @ 7pm. The Confirmation students and their families will be helping

with the setup, serving and cleanup of the Lenten Soup Suppers. Suggested donation per

meal is $5/person with a cap of $20/family.

Grace Unlimited is looking for any used and spare LEGOs. If you have some LEGOs that you no longer use and would be willing to donate we would love to put them to good use.

Grace Unlimited is looking for any used (or new) crochet hooks. We would accept any size of hook(s) that you would be willing to donate.

WANTED: Fresh Fruit

Grace Unlimited is in need of fresh fruit donations for snack for the students on Wednesday after-noons. There are 32 GU students who love apples, oranges, bananas, strawberries, and really any fresh fruit that is in season. There is a signup form for donations for specific weeks of GU on the bulletin board outside of Susie’s office.

GRACE Unlimited is for students in 2nd – 6th grade and will be held Wednesday afternoons through May 3rd,

2017 from 3:15pm – 5pm. Registration forms and detailed program information are available on our website @

www.christluth.com/grace-unlimited and on the bulletin board outside of Susie’s office.

Youth/Family Ski Trip A Youth/Family Ski trip has been scheduled for Sunday, February 19th, 2016. We will head to Mt.

Kato for a day of skiing, fellowship and fun! All ages are welcome to join us. Students in 6th

grade or younger will need to have a parent or guardian (over 18) join us for the trip. We will plan

to meet at and leave from the church @ 12:30pm and should be on the slopes by a little after 2pm.

We will load up the vehicles around 8:30pm and plan to arrive back at the church around 10pm

(there is no school @ GSL on Monday, February 20th).

Contact Susie ASAP if you are interested in attending. Registration forms are outside of Susie’s

office or can be downloaded from the website @ www.christluth.com/confirmation.

Fees for Skip Trip: $21.00 Lift Ticket, $19.00 Ski (or Snowboard) Rental, $4.00 Helmet, $4.00 Beginner Lesson.

2017 Thrivent Action Team Soup Packing Event

Christ Lutheran Church and Good Shepherd Lutheran Church are leading a 2017 Thrivent Action Team Soup Packaging Event, on Friday, March 3rd from 9am – 11/Noon. The entire Glencoe community is invited to join us as we work to package 1,200 dry soup bags, which will be donated to the McLeod Emergency Food shelf. There will be two shifts, one from 9:00am – 9:45am and a second shift from 10:00 – 10:45am. You can sign up for either shift, or both!, on the bulletin board outside of Susie’s office or on-line. Please consider helping us make an impact in our community and be a part of our Thrivent Action Team event!!

CHRIST LUTHERAN CHURCH LUTHERAN COL-LEGE SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION This is the fifteenth year of the scholarship program at Christ Lutheran, and this congregation continues to show wonderful support for our students attending Lutheran colleges. Two students are receiving assis-tance at college this year with the help of the Christ Lutheran Church Lutheran College Scholarship pro-gram. For our current high school students, con-sider the colleges of our Church when making your plans for the future. (Augsburg, Augustana, Gusta-vus, Luther, Concordia-Moorhead, St. Olaf, Waldorf, Wartburg, and more!) Information will come out in the spring of 2017 regarding the May 15 scholarship deadline. For our congregation, consider giving to the scholarship fund to support Christ Lutheran stu-dents who choose to attend colleges of the ELCA. Donations can be made to the account any time during the year, either by placing a check or en-velope in the offering plates or delivering to the Church office, labeled “CLC Scholarship Fund.” If you use the electronic giving, please follow up with an email to the church office to designate the funds. ON GIVING

Fearless Giving Many people today are afraid to give because they fear that they will outlive their resources. A few years ago, an eighty-year-old woman with assets in the multimillion-dollar range was asked to make a six-figure gift to a ministry. She declined, stating that she did not want to make such a large com-mitment at her age because she did not know if she would outlive her financial assets.

Interestingly, the widow that Jesus speaks of in Luke 21:1-4 knew exactly how much she had to live on. We do not know her age, but we do know that she gave 100 per-cent of her financial assets. She knew doing so would immediately put her in a situation where she was then outliving her resources. But she gave anyway!

If we fear that we will outlive our re-sources, are we not making a statement about our faith in God to care for us? Do we not trust the God whose eye is on the spar-row, who clothes the lilies of the field? Do we choose not to believe Jesus when he tells us not to worry? Do we dare take God at his word when challenged to bring the full tithe into the storehouse and see if God will not provide in abundance so much so that we will not have need? Do we really believe that Je-sus came to give us life in abundance? Or not? Think about your relationship to God regarding trust. Are there areas of your life in which you need to increase your trust in God? Is your management of your finances one of them? by Marcia Shetler
