Mary Ann Bierfreund Mary Ann Bierfreund, 71, of Curtis, Nebraska, died March 11, 2016 at the North Platte Care Center in North Platte. She was born January 8, 1945 in Williamsport, PA, daughter of Frank and Thelma (Whiteman) Wanamaker . Mary Ann grew up in Williamsport, PA and later moved to Angola, NY where she lived for 28 years. In November 2003 she made her home in Curtis. Mary Ann enjoyed, animals, cross stitching, crocheting, seeing her grandchildren grow, feeling with her fingers and living life to its fullest. She is survived by her three children, Nancy Bierfreund of Curtis; James Bierfreund of Angola, NY; and LeRoy (Glenda) Bierfreund of Curtis; three Grandchildren, Sid-ney, Spencer and Landon all of Curtis, NE; seven siblings Rosemary (Bill) McKinney of Montoursville, PA; Arlene Jones of Pinellas Park, FL; Geraldine (Tom) Starr of Jer-sey Shore, PA; Connie (Gary) Jenney of Jersey Shore, PA; Harry Wanamaker of Williamsport, PA; Walter (Jocelyn) Wanamaker of Williamsport, PA; James Wanamaker of Trout Run, PA; extended family Doug, Stephanie, Sidney and Hannah Schultz, Bob, Dawn, Tanner and Jessa Lemon, Sid & Kathy Schultz all of Curtis. Boys and Girls Club Members of the Month

The Boys and Girls Club of Lake Shore is proud to announce Amelya Kilby and James Carter as February’s Members of the Month. Club Staff select members that have positive charac-ter values, are respectful, responsible, caring, and good citizens. The MOTM should also participate in various Club programs such as sports, games, arts & crafts, power hour, project learn, cooking club, club council, library and nature clubs, etc. Amelya is a very bubbly member that is always peppy, smil-ing, and polite. She gets along with many different members and has an easygoing nature. She is a third grader at A.J. Schmidt Elementary, Mrs. Martin is her favorite teacher, and she really likes Social Studies class. At the Club, Amelya enjoys playing in the gym the most, but visits most of the other rooms regularly too. Away from the Club, her favorite thing to do is sing. Her favorite book is Castle Corona by Sharon Creech, and her favor-ite genre of music to listen to is pop. Amelya’s role model is her mother, and when she grows up she would like to be a singer. James is in third grade at Highland Elementary where he likes math class and Mrs. Shweikert, his favorite teacher. His abso-lute favorite spot in the Club is the gym where dodgeball is his favorite active game. James has a wonderful personality and is a pleasure to be around. The rest of our members treat him like a little brother! He is very well-rounded in the activities he selects to partake in, including gym games, crafts, game tourna-ments, and more. Away from the Club, James likes to ride his bike and playfully tease his older sister, he is a big fan of the book The Chocolate Touch, and someday would like to be an all-star football player! James favorite song to listen to is “What Do You Mean” by Justine Bieber and his role model is his friend Tylor. Miya Wardlaw is the Club’s Student of the Month. Miya is a very recent addition to the Club, but her work ethic has been very impressive early on. She does great work in Power Hour (homework room), and consistently takes the initiative to head there on her own without being told. She still manages to carve out time to play in her other favor-ite rooms too including the gym, the art room, and the games room! Away from the Club she likes to play Minecraft. Miya attends J.T. Waugh Elementary where Mrs. Takacs is her favorite teacher, she is in fourth grade, and she loves physical education. Miya’s favorite song is “Mama’s Broken Heart”, and she loves reading the Junie B. Jones book series. Her role model is her big sister Dominique, and when she grows up she would like to be an equestrian (horseback rider). Our Junior Staff of the Month is Emily Stoll, a sixth grader at Lake Shore Middle School. Junior Staff work the Snack Shack and assist Club staff with chores and running activities. As a Junior Staff, Emily is always around to lend an extra hand and her personality goes a long way with staff. Emily is as fun as she is helpful. When she’s at the Club she thoroughly enjoys the art room most. Her favorite teacher is Mrs. Brumagin and she enjoys social studies as her class of choice. In her free time, Emily enjoys swimming and reading the Diary of a Wimpy Kid book series. Emily’s role models are her parents, and she is currently undecided about what she wants to be when she gets older, though we’re all sure she will be successful in whatever she decides!

SS. Peter & Paul School, located in Hamburg, recently held their annual talent show after the conclusion of the Catholic Charities Carnival. The event featured a variety of talented students. Lake Shore High School Students Selected For All-County Music

Performing Ensembles On three weekends in January, Senior High music stu-dents, under the direction of Eric Blodgett, John Kresse, Glenn Molik, and Brittany Nichols, attended the Erie County Music Educator Solo Festivals and auditioned for a spot in one of the Erie County All-County Music Per-forming Ensembles; Band, Orchestra, and Chorus. These students worked very hard preparing classical solos, along with other required criterion, to audition and perform in front of an adjudicator at the festival.Each student received a score for their audition that was compared to the other auditioning students from every school throughout Erie County. Eight students were se-lected and given the honor to represent the Lake Shore Central Schools and their community. Many of the stu-dents performed multiple solos. Freshman, Mitchell Mc-Garrity (alto saxophone) and Emily Stolarski (flute), Soph-omore Eliza Vail (voice), and Seniors Victoria Andrews (trumpet), Benjamin Hellert (percussion), Jared Himes (trumpet), Madeline Vail (French horn), and Catherine Wolf (flute) were selected for an All-County Band, Orches-tra, or Chorus. Allysun O’Connor (French Horn), Erin At-wood (French horn) and Aaron Freeman (percussion) were named alternates. The Senior High Concert was held at the University of Buffalo’s Slee Concert Hall on Saturday, February 27th. The Junior High Concert for grades 7-9 was hosted this year by the Pioneer CSD on Saturday, March 12th. Please refer to the Lake Shore CSD website for specific concert information for upcoming Lake Shore concerts to see some of our student musician performances.

Citizen Soldier from Lake View, completes initial milestone of

service to state and nation Major General Patrick A. Murphy, the Adjutant General and Commander of the New York Army National Guard, announces the recent service accomplishment of members of the New York Army National Guard in recognition of their initial commitment to serve community, state and na-tion. Pvt. Kevin Dulinawka from Lake View, N.Y. (postal code 14085) completed the Army's rigorous basic combat train-ing and advanced individual training, culminating with a ceremony held March 6, 2016 at the Masten Avenue Ar-mory in Buffalo to mark start of training with their new unit, Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 27th Bri-gade Support Battalion. The ceremony marks their completion of the National Guard Recruit Sustainment Program, a preparatory train-ing program that provides new recruits with training, les-sons and skills to excel at their initial military training. The Soldiers will now embark on their traditional Na-tional Guard service to state and nation as part time Citi-zen Soldiers.
