Recently a fundraiser for "Honor Flight Buffalo" was held at the Aurora theater in East Aurora. Honor Flight is an organization that sends W.W.II veterans free of charge to Washington D.C. to see the W.W.II memorial which was built in their Honor. The fund raiser was attended by many of the W.W.II vets who have already taken this emotional trip. NOVEMBER MEETING OF EVANS DEMOCRATIC CLUB

Member Joe Ianni led the Club in the Pledge to the Flag. Joe is running for treasurer of the North Evans Fire District. He previously served as treasurer for 15 years, from 1996 to 2010. The district includes north Evans and Highland. The election is on Tuesday., Dec. 10 from 6 pm to 9 pm, at the Highland Fire Hall. He has served as a volunteer fireman for 30 years. A Committee for nominations to the Democratic Club leadership positions was appointed. Laurie DiMartile, Dominic Calandra, and Joe Ianni will serve as this com-mittee. They will report back at the December meeting with a proposed slate of candidates. Anyone interested in running for a Club leadership position should contact a member of the Nominations Committee, or Town Chair Robert "Bob-Cat" Catalino. Town Chair Catalino reported that that Democratic candidates Lynn Krajacic and Dennis Feldman succeeded in their election efforts. Krajacic was elected to Town Clerk and Feldmann re-elected to the a Town Board. There was only a 32% turnout for general election. It was slightly lower in the County as a whole, about 28%. Catalino noted that "American soldiers have sacrificed everything so that Americans could enjoy the right to vote. We have to get the vote out." There was an inquiry raised about staffing in the Build-ing Code Enforcement Department. The Senior Code Enforcement officer, a full-time position, has taken a second job as part time Code Enforcement in the village of Fredonia. So far there's no indication that the Town of Evans position has also become part time to accom-modate this move. At the next meeting, the Democratic elected officials will be encouraged to explore a job-shar-ing arrangement with Fredonia for this position, to save money for the Evans taxpayers on salary and benefits.Dominic Calandra addressed the Club to thank everyone for their hard work and support throughout his campaign for Highway Superintendent.

ANGOLA FIRE COLLECT FOOD FOR THE VFW POST 5798

On November 23rd Memebers of the Angola Fire De-partment and Explorer posts 735, 1735, and Boy Scout Troop 713 collected food and cash donations in a door to door food drive that encompased the entire Village of Angola and Town of Evans that Angola Fire Department serves. This year we were able to exceed last years collec-tions in both food and cash donations to assist the VFW post 5798 food program that benefits residence of the Town of Evans. Anyone wishing to donate that was unable to can drop off any non-perishable food products or monies to the An-gola Village Hall personnel. In addition the Angola Fire Department and Company have a proud 131 years of service to our community. The fire department and company have many different areas of membership from active scene support to associate mem-bership for community involement and fund raisers. The fire department and company are also supported by our Senior Explorers Post 735 for ages 14-18, Jounior Explorer Club 1735 for ages 11-13, and Boy Scout Troop 713. Exploring allows youth to learn fire fighting and EMS skills while becoming a positive role model for our community.

The board spoke to a room full of residents opposing the proposed facility.Supervisor Dash announced that a resolution had been passed that the town respectfully object to the proposed placement of a facility tentatively scheduled to be built on Pontiac Road in Evans. “It is the Town Board’s firm belief that there are suf-ficient similar facilities within our municipality to service any relevant need and that that addition of another would place a further burden on the taxpayers of our Town to provide basic services to such facility, alter the character of the neighborhood and further cause a relative concen-tration and saturation of such facilities in the Town of Evans.” “While it is recognized that a need for the establish-ment of similar facilities has in the past existed and that such facilities serve a proper and just purpose fulfilled in the Town of Evans by existing and established resi-dences, the construction and placement of the additional proposed facility would alter the existing agricultural nature of the neighborhood, create a sense of unease to the existing residents, negatively impact the tax structure and the existing infrastructure of the Town.”

SOUTHTOWNS CATHOLIC PRESCHOOL CELEBRATES THANKSGIVING

Students in both SCS Preschool classes celebrated the 1st Thanksgiving together. The Monday, Wednesday, Fri-day class dressed as Pilgrims and the Monday to Friday class dressed as Native American Indians. Miss Erica Aikin's Grade 8 class received their class sweatshirts on November 25. Every year, Grade 8 receives a sweatshirt from principal, Mrs. Judy MacDonald.
