CONSECRATION TO JESUS THROUGH MARY

Hello parents of Faith Formation Students! Today I would like to invite you to take part in a 8 week retreat taking place while your child/children are in Faith Formation class, from 9:10 to 10:10AM. Starting Sunday, September 29th and ending Sunday December 15th. For this retreat we will use a book by Fr. Michael Gaitley, “ 33 days to Morning Glory”. Did you ever wish you could be a Saint? Did you ever wish you could know Jesus better? Did you know God wants all of us to be Saints? According to Fr. Gaitley making a Conse-cration to Jesus through Mary is the surest, fastest, and easiest way to Sainthood. This book studies 4 Marian giants, St. Louis de Montfort, St. Maxmillian Kolbe, St. Mother Teresa, and St. John Paul II. Getting to know Mary, Jesus’s Mother, will be a great blessing for each of us because Mary always leads us to her Son, Jesus! Please plan to make this “Retreat” and if you have any questions and /or concerns, call or email me. Alice Burns (919) 306-6292; [email protected]

R.C.I.A. DISCUSSIONS

Sacrament of Reconciliation (Confession)

In Confession, The Catholic is seeking forgiveness the way Christ in-tended it to be sought. John 20:21-22: Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Fa-ther has sent me, so I send you.” And when he has said this, he breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the holy spirit. Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them, and whose sins you retain aree retained.” Catholics do not tell their sins to a priest “instead of to God,” but to God through a priest, appointed by our Lord as an official stand-in for Christ (alter Christus). By confessing to a priest, we receive sacramental graces that the non-Catholic does not get; through the Sacrament of Penance, not only are sins forgiven, bur graces are obtained. This power to forgive is two-fold, to loose (to forgive) or to hold them bound (not to forgive). This means that sins have to be verbally confessed to the priests so they could know which sins to forgive and which not to for-give. The priest must and does refuse absolution to a penitent when he thinks the penitent is not willing to detach from the sin. He sometimes post-pones the absolution till the next confession, either for the good of the peni-tent or for the sake of better preparation—especially when the person has not been to confession in a long time. We can obtain sound and objective advice in analyzing our sins and avoiding sin in the future. By going to a recognized and trained confessor, we are protected against the subjective dangers of such psychological tricks of the personality such as projection, rationalization etc. And the Catholic learns a lesson in humility. For more information on becoming Catholic, call the Coordinator of Faith Formation at 941-776-9097.
