It’s hard to believe that as a write this article, the summer is almost
over, the back to school sales are on and some of the kids are start-
ing school in the next week or so. At least to me it seems like the
summer flies by and the winters seem to last forever. May be it’s
just because I am getting “old.” Haven’t done very well this year
with the skis, but I must say it has been rewarding with the fishing
I have done. It started with the One Hope United outing where the
boys had a blast! There was friendly bantering going on between the boats as each boat
yelled out when they caught a fish and the guides joined in the fun with some trash talk.
After the event, it was touching to watch how these kids, all abused, attached themselves
to their guides. If you haven’t participated in this, you should try to get it on your
schedule. The second event was the Bartlett Kid’s Fishing Derby where our members
help set-up and act as judges. The looks on these kids’ faces when they catch a fish is
glowing. One little girl, about 7 years was bragging about how many she caught to any-
one who would listen, even though none of them was bigger than 6 inches. Finally, our
granddaughter, Eliana, was up at our house in Wisconsin
for a few days. She is three years old. Fishing off the
dock with Grandma and Grandpa she caught her first
fish on a Little Mermaid Pole. Then she caught several
more after that. By the time we were done, I got her to
kiss her fish and handle the worms. There is a picture of
this event in this month’s newsletter. This was the high
lite of the summer. My point to all of this is that we
must continue to promote fishing and the outdoors to
kids. I think Rich Gallagher once said that if they don’t
fish by eleven they will never fish. So take your kids,
grandkids and others out for a day on the water. That
six inch bluegill looks like a 50 inch Muskie to them.
Our regular monthly meetings resume on Wednesday,
September 9th, at 7:00PM at Chandlers in Schaumberg.
Our speaker will be Bill Bennett who will speak about fishing Indiana waters. A buffet
dinner is available starting at 6:00PM We will resume our monthly raffles at this meet-
ing. On Saturday, September 12th, we will be holding our Cast for the Cure outing on
the Chain. All proceeds go to Breast Cancer Research. Additional details are in the
newsletter and available on the website. We hope you can attend. If not, please send us
a donation. We have a secret donor that will match the first $250 that we raise. Well
done for now. Packing up the gear and heading for a couple days on Lake St. Clair!!
See you at the meeting.

September Meeting Fea-
turing Bill Bennett!!! Indiana Musky Guide Bill Bennett will be our guest speaker on Wednesday September 9th! Our monthly club meeting resume and we are looking forward to see-ing everyone at the meetings after spending the summer chasing muskies! If you fish the Indiana lakes for Mus-
kies this is a meeting you want to make! Bill Bennett is a professional musky guide who has been chasing mus-kies for over 25 years all across the country! Bill started musky fishing when
he was 15 years old during the annual summer family vacations to the Northwood's of Wisconsin on Lake Tom-ahawk. Bill loved going up every summer and chasing
these fish. When he was quite younger Bill was known as "knots" because of all the backlashes he used to get. While up north Bill met a musky guide by the name of Jim Budday. Jim took a young Bill Bennett under his wing and taught him the in’s & outs of musky fishing. Even though Bill was born and raised an Indiana boy, his heart was always in Wisconsin. In the 1990’s Bill started fish-ing on Webster Lake and let just say the rest was history! Bill moved out to wonderful Kosciusko county and he was near some of the best Muskie lakes in Indiana all the time. Bill joined the Webster Lake Musky Club and is cur-rently the VP, PR. Director and Magazine Director for the club. Bill’s wife Melissa is also the clubs membership director! Come on out to the April 8
th meeting and hear
Bill cover IN lakes like Webster Lake, The Barbee Chain (Big Barbee, Little Barbee, Kuhn, Irish, Banning, Secrest, and Sawmill), Lake Tippecanoe & James Lake (Little Tip-py), Upper Long Lake & Bruce Lake. If you plan of fish-ing Indiana lakes in 2015, this is a don’t miss meeting! Admission is $3.00/person at the door.
All our meetings are open to the pub-lic. The buffet dinner runs from 6:00PM-7:00PM and cost is $14.00/adults. Meeting starts at 7:00PM!
IN MEMORIUM Our good friend and long time FRV member Charlie Sparks passed
away at his home on July 21st just two days shy of his 77th birthday.
Charlie was a “regular” at our monthly club meetings and at our annual
fundraising banquets. He was always willing to donate to our cause and
help us in any way he could! Charlie enjoyed musky fishing and talking
muskies at the monthly meetings with other members! You were drawn
in by Charlie's infectious laugh and his great stories! Charlie was married
to his wife Eileen for 42 years! Charlie had 4 children, the late Steven
Sparks, Roy Sparks (Lisa), Jim Zielinski, and Julie Sparks. He was pre-
ceded in death by his parents, his beloved Aunt Wanda Bennett of St.
Germain, and son Steven Sparks. He was brother to Michael Sparks, and Geri (Ted) Kosartes. Charlie loved his
two granddaughters Savannah and Hunter and talked about them often! He worked for Palumbo Excavating for
38 years, and was proud to be a part of Local Union 150 Operating Engineers. He also served his country in the
Navy aboard the USS Forrestal! His interests included fishing, hunting, smoking Pall Malls, landscaping, & attend-
ing our club meetings and going to his favorite restaurant Pub & Prime. His ashes will be scattered in St. Germain
on the family property overlooking Little St. Germain Lake. It is our hope that he was reunited with the true loves
of his life- Pepper, Reese and Mittens at Rainbow Bridge. Charlie will surely be missed by all of us who knew
him. I know Charlie is chasing those 50”ers up North as I write this! God bless him and his family!

dlers! For those of us who have bought tickets, we will announce the September winners in the up-coming October newsletter. FRV SUMMER FISHING
LEAGUE IS DONE! The FRV 2015 summer fishing league is in the books! Our First Place
winner is Dave Schober with a 39.5” musky. Our 2nd place winner was
Dave Leffelman with a 33” musky. Thanks to Tim Crews for setting the
league up and running it. 3 Events were held on June 3rd, July 1st and
August 5th. Members fished from 6:00PM-9:30PM. Check in was at the
Thirsty Turtle on the south end of Channel Lake. Following check-in
members fished until 9:30PM and then reconvened at the Turtle for
some food and fun! We are looking for feedback from the people who participated; to see if holding something
like this again next year would be worthwhile. If you had fun, let Tim Crews know by dropping him an e-mail at
[email protected] so we can plan to do this again in 2016. We value your input and we’d appreciate your
feedback!

CORNER… Our monthly records indicate a small, but declining number in membership retention, which is exceed-ing new enrollments. This trend has been going on for
several months. There has also been a small decline in monthly meeting attendance. Though the decline is small it seems to be persistent. We are not sure why this is happening, but we are concerned enough to bring this to your attention and to see, with your help; how we can reverse this downward trend. Our contact with members is through monthly meetings, monthly newsletters and the website. FRV tries to book interesting and informative speakers that fall within our budget limitations. Let us know which speakers you like and give us your feedback.
Help us to help you! Where does the member come into this and how can you help? You can help in several ways: support the club by coming regularly (constraints permitting ) to monthly meetings, partake in the raffle, treat yourself to dinner and a drink when convenient. Give us suggestions on how to make the meeting more entertaining “AND” don’t forget to renew your member-ship when the time comes. Invite a friend or a neighbor to a monthly meeting. Come to a club sponsored fishing outing or volunteer to help out at one of our various events. For example, we need people several times a year to help man a booth at Cabela’s. This is a fun expe-rience and a chance to learn some new fishing facts. Join in with US to help make the FRV Chapter the best the in the Northwest Suburban area. Have a friend, neighbor or family member join the club with you! Share the fun! Best Regards!

ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL BART-ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL BART-LETT KIDS FISHING DERBY LETT KIDS FISHING DERBY On Saturday August 8th, 2015 the Fox Riv-er Valley Chapter and the Bartlett Pak District held it’s the 37th Annual Kids Fish-ing Derby at Beaver Pond in Bartlett, IL. This event draws children from 2-16 years of age and from all over the North Subur-ban area. Children along with parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles all gath-ered at Beaver Pond for a morning of fish-
ing, family time and great prizes! This event was sponsored by Cabela’s, The Bartlett Park District and The Fox River Valley Chapter of Muskies, Inc. Prizes were awarded to anglers in age groups from 2-16 for the categories of Panfish, Bass, Catfish and Carp. Rods & reels, and fishing tackle all provided courtesy of Cabela’s in Hoffman Estates were given to the top three places in each age group! The grand prize was a kayak pro-vided by the Bartlett Park District. Dan Mitchell and his crew from the Bartlett Park District did another great job setting up the stage, providing an sound system and sold night crawlers and bottled water to anglers in need. I’d like to thank Mike Marks for heading up & coordinating this event this year. Mike did an outstanding job obtaining the donations and coordi-nating the help and judges for this event. Many thanks to all of the FRV members who showed up to assist in the judging
and measuring of the kids fish. “We are hoping to promote next years event better and to hopefully get more kids to come out” said FRV Youth Director Mike Marks. “We’ve got great sponsors with Cabela’s providing all of these great prizes we give away to the kids, I just wish we could have had better participation this year. Our numbers are down from previ-ous years but the kids had a great time” said Mike. Hopefully the weather will co-operate next year and the turnout will be better! Help us spread the word!
