The Assessment Survey Report, published in 1999, examines the level of out-reach and prospects for long-term sustainability of the established financial institutions in the delivery of credit to the rural enterprises that are essentially of Micro, Small and Medium groups. These enterprises were found to be largely neglected and unassisted by banks and other financial institutions in the country, with community banks found to be best placed and willing to finance them.
