CambodiaIn a country where Christians number only about three percent of the population, one girl is doing everything she can to add to that number. Nguyen Pham Thuy Trang has led so many of her friends to Christ that they’ve started calling her the evangelist. She loves listening to Bible stories and memorising Bible verses. She’s been voted class leader by her classmates at school. - NZ Bible Society

MyanmarAsia Evangelistic Fellowship reports that their annual summer camps draw more than 250 young people for a week of worship and sharing the good news of Christ. Every year an average of 35 young people commit their lives to the Lord. Discipleship classes are held four times a year to teach and equip these young people who come to Christ.

Ghana, AfricaEsther Jens served for the last year as a SIM Short Term mission partner. Experiences have included frequent power cuts, long bus trips, ministry with local creche, youth and a boys football club, attending a mammoth 3 All-Night-Prayer nights and eating snail-prepared as a kebab and cooked in a soup. Esther says: “Not only have I really enjoyed my work but I have had so much support from the other missionaries. It is incredible to see God moving here, especially in the lives of the young people and children.” Esther is one of 120 short term mission partners sent out by SIM in the last 6 years.

One particular people group the Navigators focus on is discipling tertiary students in NZ. This year Merodie Rose has joined us to work with graduates; Tim and Leah Simpson to work at Canterbury University; Andy and Kathryn Iversen to work on the Auckland campus alongside Jessica Moses, and Brian and Amy Wachter and family to work in Auckland with Pasifika students.

Online Radio Training SchoolAcross the world - from the villages of Africa to the islands of Asia Pacific and the urban centres of the Far East - HCJB radio partners are spreading the gospel through discipleship and community oriented radio broadcasts. Radio hosts offer information, encouragement and entertainment, and these radio stations form the cornerstone o f c o m m u n i t y co h e s i ve n e s s .

All this starts with training personnel for each station, most of which are located great distances from the nearest training school. The Online Radio Training School offers HCJB partners the ability to receive top level instruction and direct mentoring from highly experienced radio trainers.

Navigators (New Zealand)

Discipling is central to what we do. We help people begin their jouney of faith, equip them with the essentials, and walk alongside them as they grow to maturity in Christ and as they take their part as co-workers with God in His harvest field.

In last month’s [4-12] MIB we offered up to five copies of the new book on missions and revival in the Pacific region: TONGA Tale of Two Kingdoms, by Kalafi Moala. The offer was: “Send in 5 or more reasons

why Pacific Islanders make good missionaires”. Three responded right away with excellent answers.

Congradulations to David Cole of Tauranga (Director of Impact World Tours). And to Rosemary Dewerse of Christchurch (who’s been on a short-term mission in the Philippines, served in Kyrgystan, and currently based in Waitakere). And finally to Gordon Strong, a part Tongan who has lived most of his life in New Zealand (Marton), and responded a couple days later. Each of them will receive a copy of Tonga, Tale of Two Kingdoms.

David gave the following five reasons (but we’ll give him credit for more) why Pacific Islanders make good missionaries:

1 & 2. They are physically robust & eat anything 3 4 & 5. They are adaptable & will sleep anywhere, without complaining 6 & 7. They are hospitable, friendly, highly relational & people orientated 8. They learn languages easily9 & 10. They love pioneering work, and challenges

Rosemary gave these reasons:11. They are willing to risk much for a greater good12. They are willing to live by faith13. They are warm-hearted people good at building relationships with others14. They are humble15. They are adaptable and creative

She went on to say ... it struck me how much more effective my PI friends would be in other contexts than me, a Palangi, because of the many closer resonances their cultures have with those in other parts of the world (16) and the warmth of their lives and faith (17). It’s great to hear about the growing numbers of PI missionaries, given a heritage that proves their effectiveness (18).

And Gordon shared this:

I agreed with the list which states that “their faith, their humility, their ability to adapt to almost any living situation, their priority on relationships, all these things are important contributing factors which often lend to Pacific Islanders being more effective sometimes than European missionaries in certain mission fields.”

Gordon continued: Another contributing factor is the skin colour (19) and I say this from personal experience in countries where the people are dark skinned they often believe I am one of them purely on the basis of my skin colour. [incarnational missions] Also their ability to laugh and smile (20) and understand what is respectful in other cultures (21) which is just a continuation of the respect they learn at home (22).

Let’s continue to pray that God will raise up more missionaries from New Zealand - Pakeha, Maori, Pacific Islanders, Asians, Africans, and others - to serve in His harvest fields around the world.

Yours 4 Missions,David B Hall

Mission ResourcesDigital Bible Society Up CloseFor the latest about the Digital Bible Society, browse to... http://www.dbsbible.org Organizers believe that the extensive availability of personal technologies in nearly every nation on the earth has created an unrivaled opportunity to enable global access to the scriptures. This is why the Digital Bible Society exists - to provide Biblical-famine relief to resource-impoverished believers in closed and creative-access nations. The Digital Bible Society is transforming the crisis of access in these nations

with significant resource libraries including varieties of Bible translations, commentaries, theology, audio Scriptures, devotionals, and evangelistic movies (such as the Hope and the Jesus Film)- all in the user’s language, delivered safely by a micro SD card that fits securely onto the tip of a finger.

Business as Mission Resources OnlineWant to know more about Business as Mission? Interested and want to take the next step? There are lots of articles, stories and lists of resources available at the Business as Mission Resource website... http://www.businessasmission.com
