2 Sunnyside Neighborhood Association Newsletter, December 2009

Our neighborhood has a website! Yes, we have finally joined the digital age. Who knows what could be next, Facebook…, Twitter…? That all depends on you! Initially, we’ll be posting our newsletter content and hope to add more information as it is provided. Please access the site at www.sunnysideneighborhoodassociation.blogspot.comOr, you can go to the city of Winter Park website, click on the ‘Residents’ tab and then the ‘Neighborhoods’ tab. You’ll see Sunnyside listed and you can click there for a link to our site.

DO YOU LIKE TO WRITE, BLOG OR WORK ON WEBSITES? We’d love your help with our Sunnyside Neighborhood newsletter and website. Please feel free to provide ideas, content for articles or photos for the next issue! Submit all ideas and articles to Julia Tensfeldt at [email protected]. No advertisements please!

Neighborhood Directory

The board has been working on a 2010 version of our neighborhood directory. To date, we have received updates from 50% of the residents. Your neighborhood captain will be contacting you to confirm that the information listed in the directory for your family is accurate. Please respond as soon as possible! This is also an opportunity to provide your e-mail address to ensure that you receive neighborhood updates, such as Crime Alerts, via e-mail. In addition, you can “go green” and save our association money by requesting an electronic version of our newsletter!

Survey ResultsWE’VE HEARD WHAT YOU HAVE TO SAY

Earlier this fall we asked you the question, “What would you like to see the

Neighborhood Association accomplish?” Thanks to those who responded, we’ve got some great ideas to work on and can now focus on those issues going forward. Here’s a glance at the Top Ten Responses:1. Underground Power Lines2. Add Decorative Street Lights3. Plant More Trees4. Install Neighborhood Signs5. Add/Fix Sidewalks6. Add Traffic Signs and Speed Bumps7. Promote Friendship Among Neighbors8. Add “Curb your Dog” Signs9. Neighborhood Parties/Social Projects10. Communication NetworkIf you would like to help get any of these projects off the ground, please contact Dede Caron at [email protected]. We always love our neighbors’ feedback and will all need to work together to make these improvements! In the meantime, we’ll be working hard to get the ball rolling!

Neighborhood Watch

Crime in the City of Winter Park has decreased from last year (24% decline). If there are violent crimes in our neighborhood or reoccurring property crimes, the police notify me by email within 24 hours and I pass that information on to you electronically. If you would like to see a snapshot of crime in the entire city, please see the crime map on the Winter Park Police Department website - www.wppd.org/stats/map2.asp If you see suspicious behavior or are a victim of any crime please report it to the Police Department so they may track any patterns. If you are concerned about a tree falling or if you see lots of bees or yellow jackets on city property, please call the Forestry Division as they now have a bee expert on staff. --- Mark Winton

Welcome New Neighbor

Please welcome Tony and Susan Sarna to our neighborhood. They live at 1812 Gibson Green Lane with their daughter Nicole. The Sarna’s moved back to central Florida over the summer from Overland Park, KS and both work for CenturyLink while Nicole is a 5th grader at Dommerich Elementary school.

Introducing Our Sunnyside Website

HAVE YOU MET YOUR BLOCK CAPTAIN YET?? With 176 homes, distributing and receiving information pertinent to our families (in a timely fashion) can be a cumbersome and confusing process. So, we have a plan: Throughout our neighborhood, each street or cul-de-sac has now appointed a volunteer Block Captain to be the eyes, ears and FEET of your Association.

Did someone new move in? Tell your Block Captain…your Association has a Welcome Committee that would love to meet them. Is there a hardship with a neighbor? Tell your Block Captain…your Association can help organize neighbors to bring food or help the family with other concerns.

Have a great idea for a street party? Tell your Block Captain…your Association’s Social Committee loves a reason to celebrate!

Our goals are to help Sunnyside become a more cohesive community and to

develop an Association that is responsive to the needs of its residents. By giving each “Block” a familiar and convenient contact to your Association, you will be better informed and share your voice with the neighborhood community…we want to hear from you!

Your Block Captain has been identified on your newsletter’s mailing label. Kimberly Britt ([email protected]) - Block Captain Captain
