FROM OUR PRINCIPAL – LISA MORRESEY Kia ora koutou Another busy week. Over the past few weeks there have been a number of trials and auditions. Teachers have been organising, trialing and auditioning for Stage Challenge, Cricket, Netball, Basketball, Touch and so on. We are incredibly fortunate at MMI as our teachers all commit to at least one extra curricular activity on top of their teaching role. In fact many of our staff take a number of extra curricular activities. This is why we are able to offer so many incredible opportunities for our students. For some students trialing and auditioning is a new process. It can be a challenge and some children may be disappointed. Staff work hard to be transparent and consistent and fair. However, there will always be someone who does not agree with the decisions that are made. We are constantly balancing the views and opinions of many stake holders and trying to do the best for our children. Despite this we will not please everyone. We do appreciate constructive feedback and we review our practices in order to make improvements where we can. However, we do ask that you will support our teachers, selectors, coaches and match officials. Good luck to our cricketers and surfers today and to all of our Ocean's 16 Athletes competing over the weekend. Have a great weekend. Nga mihi nui kia koutou katoa. Lisa Morresey

TUTOR READERS With support from our community, we run a parent Tutor Reading programme to help children in need of extra reading. This year, the programme will operate on Tuesday’s and Wednesday’s from 9.00am – 10.20am. Parents, caregivers, grandparents, aunts and/or uncles are needed to make this programme successful. If you feel that you, or someone you know, could give us some time to assist in the programme – for one or both mornings, please fill out the slip at the end of the newsletter and get your child to return it to the school office. Training will be given prior to the programme beginning. Tutor reading will begin in Term 2 and run for Terms 2 and 3 Beryl Harvey Deputy Prinicpal

ICAS TESTING INFORMATION 2016

These are tests, sat by thousands of students throughout New Zealand, Australia and other Pacific Areas, and administered out of Australia. Students sit the test on a designated day and we send the tests to Australia for marking. Results are sent back to us once the marking has been completed. All students in our school may enter any of the exams. A gentle reminder, the students in the GATE classes are expected to sit the English, Mathematics and Science papers. Other papers are optional. The exams and costs are as follows:

All entries need to be completed by Thursday 31 March, to enable us to complete the necessary paperwork. Please note, no late entries will be accepted. The registration form is on the back page of this newsletter. Please cut out and return by this date.

YEAR 7 CAMP UPDATE Room 4 had an outstanding time at camp. A few of our favourite activities were abseiling, jumping and swimming at the water hole, kayak rugby and raft building. Even though it poured with rain we still had so much fun and didn't mind getting all wet and muddy! Thank you to the parents that made it possible to go on camp.

SPORTS INFORMATION

Please contact Troy Jennings at t.jennings@mtint.school.nz if you have any queries about sporting events. Well done to all our students who participated in our School Tryathlon last Friday. The individual students ran 2 ½ laps, biked 3 laps, and then ran around the courts and swam 2 lengths of our school pool. Those who competed as teams did 4 ½ laps for the run, then 4 laps or lengths of the other disciplines. It was great to see the effort that all the students put into their events. Well done to the following students who were placed in the top three as individuals.

are coming to Main Beach, Mount Maunganui on Saturday 12th of March The OceanKids is a 200m swim which caters to 7-13 year old children capable of swimming 200m or more in the pool.
