    FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Kia ora koutou, Welcome back! The weather is warmer and the sun is shining. Firstly, a warm welcome to Matua Tapuraka Rikihana, who joins our teaching team. We are very fortunate to have Matua Tapuraka teaching in Whānau 10 for the rest of the year. Community Consultation Last term, we asked community, staff and students to complete the NZCER* Inclusiveness Survey. This survey was completed online. All of the questions were designed by NZCER* and the survey tool is used by schools across the country. We were absolutely thrilled with the results. The feedback was incredibly positive and so we are really proud of the work that we have all done as a school and community. As well as the warm fuzzies, the survey has also given us some food for thought with regards to next steps, areas for development and areas that require further investigation. We have shared the data with staff, students and our Board of Trustees. I have also included a summary of the findings in this newsletter. I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank everyone who took the time to complete the survey. Your feedback is appreciated, considered, and will inform future communication and priorities for the work that we do. *New Zealand Council for Educational Research ERO Over the next 2 weeks we will be audited by the Education Review Office (ERO), as part of their regular review cycle. We are looking forward to their visit, their feedback and the guidance towards next steps for us as a school and community. We are also nervous because we have all worked so hard and we hope that ERO can see the transformation, as we strive to reach the summit of Mauao! The key evaluative question and focus for the review is: How effectively does the Mount Maunganui Intermediate school curriculum respond to Māori and other children whose learning & achievement needs acceleration? On Wednesday 25 October, you are invited to a parent meeting from 2.30 - 3.00 pm. This meeting will be held in the school library. ERO are particularly interested in talking with families who have students whose learning has been accelerated or students who may have ongoing needs. If you can join us, we would love your support. ERO have also asked to meet with the Whānau whose students are in Whānau Tekau and part of our Reo Rua bilingual programme. This meeting will be at 4.00 pm in the classroom. Pasifika Festival Wednesday 25th of October, at Tahatai Coast School. Our Pasifika group is performing at 1.00pm. There are also 2 groups performing from Omanu School. The full timetable is included later in this newsletter. Have a wonderful Labour Weekend everyone. Ma te wa Ms M/Whaea Lisa Principal

    Analysis of Feedback from staff

School leaders 11 Classroom or Subject Teachers 20 Teacher Aides 3 Admin/Support Staff 2

The results from this survey show us that staff are “on the same page” about how the school operates. This demonstrates that staff are generally cohesive in their view of the school.

This cohesiveness is particularly heartening given the number of staff changes that have occurred this year. It is particularly pleasing that staff indicate that this is a safe place for students and staff.

The area that staff seem to be indicating development in is professional development around the support of diverse learners.

    ARE YOU INTERESTED IN ROWING

Mount Maunganui Rowing Squad needs more Mounties involved in rowing. If rowing at all strikes you interest, come and give it a go, we are training three times a week which is Mondays at 5:45am, Wednesdays at 5:45am and Saturdays at 6:30am. Come down on a Saturday morning and give it a go. No prior experience needed as we all start somewhere, just come down in some exercise gear and trainers and you'll be good to go. These early mornings are a great way to start the day and make it more productive, rowing makes even the night owls morning people with beautiful sunrises, great people, and an even better sport. Both boys and girls welcomed, any questions at all don't hesitate to email [email protected].

Welcome to Astro Cheer, the Bay ’s

    newest Cheerleading Club.

We aim here at Astro Cheer to provide

the opportunity for our athletes to

learn not only new skills and a new

sport, but also teach lessons about

    hard work, determination, team work,

    confidence and self-belief.

    Cheerleading makes you as an

    individual stronger not only physically

but also mentally. You will not only

make friends and memories in your

team but you will be part of the Astro

Cheer family. Everyone is welcome no

matter what gender, age, or ability

    level you are.

We train at Impact Gymsport 36G

    MacDonald St, Mt Maunganui. We

are the only club in the Bay able to

train on a full floor every session!
