    Thanke,

    Dear Family,

    APRIL'S SHOWERS

    OF BLESSINGS

    A time to plant Homeoonring

    Sunday night

Jim snapped the big padlock on the iron gate, closed and locked thedoor and turned around to meet my face. I smiled as I said, ''Boy, amI ever tired!" I saw that he was feeling the same. He said, "Yes, Iam too...do you realize that we have been gone sinco 8 this morningand it's now 10:30? It was the "homecoming" Sunday at Meadowbrookwith a fellowship dinner, afternoon rally, and right through to nightservice. But oh, was it ever great! The church praised God in songand message all day long. There was one baptism..and another one today, making twelve this year. To God be the glory.

At Sun Mt planting time has begun and this year we hope to have a lotmore food in the ground. Bananas have begun to come in - green onesboiled make a solid base for dinner. And the buildings keep going up.The engine room is almost complete which promises light for carp thissummer. V/indows arrived for the dorms and the shower house is next.

Our Christian-Day School has set a new record enrolment. We have nevertried for high numbers, preferring quality in small classes but we arepressed now with new enrolments up to 1977. Pray with us that we willremain free to give our children a Christian message with their lessons,

The 5th Annual Youth Retreat for Meadowbrook was another nice success. It was an overnight at Sun Mt for the first time and the boys trulyenjoyed "christening" Largo House. After a nice breakfast we settleddown to a whole day of prayers, songs, messages and testimonies. Itwas heartwarming for the 23 teenagers-one car got lost on the way.

Picks and shovels should be flying this month at Sun Mt as we begin amuch needed water tank. Our builder promised that if we can provide$800.00 he will build it in three weeks. Water is our one last problem and if we can overcome this, we will be ready to open camp thissummer. It we don't complete the camp house in time it will not betoo serious but we must have water. With God all things are possible-even water tanks!

And now we want to thank you for your loving gifts for our work...forthe camp house gifts, for the regular funds that feed and care for ourboys and for our Living Link churches. Your gifts are needed more thanever before...and appreciated so very much. Your letters of encouragement are dear to our hearts and we thank God for you and for yourcare for our whole family. There is always so much to tell you thatwe can never find space. Please keep us in your prayers.

  • THE PLACE OF LOVEAmong the most quoted texts of the Bible

are the verses from Paul's letter to the Corinthians (I Cor. 13). Paul, in them, defineslove. Christian love. The language is simple, yet noble. The lessons are clear, yet profound. The place of love over all, is unequivocallydeclared.

In this text, Paul offers his support to theMaster's second Great Commandment. Andit is here, on this Commandment from Christ, the preaching of His apostle Paul, that ourBoys' Home is founded.

The other day, we were quoting our Corinthian from memory, while looking throughsome recent "action" pictures of our httleguys, and the thought struck us: Why not,in an Evangel issue, "suffer" our Httle ones tobring home to us, and to our friends andreaders, this text?

    And so we do now.

CWe have used the King James version inwhich"love" is given as "charity", a translationwhich scans like a great orchestra over thestructure and rhythms of this most nobleofpassages.)

The Jamaica Christian Boys'Home extends its deepestregrets and sympathy to Mrs.Ned Foster, wife of the lateAlfred E. Foster who recentlypassed away. The Fosters havebeen supporters of the Homesince 1958 and the boysdormitory known as FosterHall was given mainly throughtheir gifts. Other helpfulequipment and support of thechildren in early years of theHome greatly assisted ourgrowth. We are deeply saddened withhis passing.

"It's mornin' time" says ole man sun whenlie peeps into the dormitory past the jalousies, past the new burglar bars, andacross to the tousled sleepy heads in thelower and upper bunks of a boy's own world- the room he calls his own. It's a tough worldwith that sun shining straight into your eyeswhen you want a few more winks. But beforeyou know it a cold shower is driving away anylast tiny bit of sleepiness and you are well onyour way.

Line-up meansinspection with a smile that says well-doneand a frown if you're caught with a lizardin your pocket. It also means prayers andScripture learning right down to Danny who

The school bell clanging from 'way acrossthe yard breaks up the "Line-Up" and feetscamper and skip through the nearest doorwhile shrill chattering voices graduallydisappear leaving the house in silence . .. thatis, except for the long smiling sigh fromNursie who by this time has "had it."

NOW IT'S SCHOOLThe high-schoolers were long gone by Line-

Up time. They have a tough pull on foot andtheir Line-Up comes at school before eighta.m. The middlers are Oxford Prep guys andthey have reason to smile. Yes, it's because ofthe pleasant teachers, solid and interestingcurriculum, and good friends that OxfordPrep provides. Danny our tiny guy, is atOxford's Nursery-Kindergarten where hisname on the Birthday Cake Chart says he willbe for another year.

AND AFTER SCHOOLBefore you know it, the bell rings again and

there is a mad dash to the new little tent thatgood friends brought at Christmas. And sometimes there are treats 'neath the tent. Ourbiscuit company sees that the boys get freshlybaked broken cookies regularly. Look and seeif you think they like them. Life after all, isn't so bad at Oxford Road. You find plentyof things to say thank-you for at bedtimeprayers.

    A LOOK AT US

JAMAICA IS AN OUTDOOR PLACE. All year. Ourrains are very considerate. They pour down for an houror two, and then, the sky.rinsed and sunned, breaks outbluer than before.

(Okay, we have beenknown to have had rains for afew days on end, "Intermittent showers" as thenewspapers grandly call them but only on specialoccasions, like when ahurricane is blowing out in theCaribbean).

Generally, though, its clearand sunny, great weather forboys. And the boys, as we sayhere, advantage it.

    Who wouldn't? Who

    wouldn't advantage such fineweather?

OF COURSE, THE HOMEis not all play. There are somedisciplines that a guy, nomatter how young, must face.Like school and church.Learning and worship. Likework. A fellow is never toosmall to commence brushingup on his work ethic. And ongood manners. Can't leave thatout. The world is in shortsupply.

Good manners marks thepresence of integrity. Later ithelps to make acceptable menin time of adversity.

Let us now have a look atthe disciplines.

Of course, its not all play!

SCHOOL, IN MOSTCASES, is our own OxfordPrep, the school for ouryounger chaps. Its in a two-floor building on the property.Besides our own boys, thereare about 100 boys and girlson roll. The children age fromnursery through to the end ofprimary, about 11 years old. From here they go on to highschool in which they remainto the "0" (for ordinary) and

  • WORSHIP ISTHE DAILYdiscipline. Memorial Chapel onthe Home grounds hasmorning worship each weekday. At weekends, we haveour own Home service on SunMountain (on Saturday, whichis our Farming Day butmore of that later). OnSunday, there are of course,

our services in the Meadow-brook Church.

And "service" it truly is.Our boys learn early to readthe bible in public, to give atestimony, to visit the sick athome or in hospitals; toevangelize, to care. "Service"is the operative word in our"services".

    ABOUT SUN MOUNTAINAND JULY, 1976

    /Dear Christian Friends,

There is no way that you can really imagine our joy and excitement this month. After these past three years of Saturday labor, of hard work, testing of faithblessings of gifts, and even some tears, we are ready to open our first '"sleep-in" camps at Sun Mountain.

The boys have finally been able to see what they were doing. For kids it ishard to see ahead and realize the goals that big people set. For a time itwas only endless work. But now the joys of Sun Mountain are being realized.Oh, it is beautifull The two new dormitories are completed and painted and bedsare all in. The dining hall is spick and span and the kitchen nicely stockedwith camp food. Before this final week is over the finishing touches should beon and roofs all on and the lights glowing from the light plant.

But the Spiritual part is always the sweetest. One one side of a hill is a lovely spot dedicated to the preaching of the Word. It was built by the boys andMommy, of rocks all laid and cemented for seats and a lovely rock pulpit. Oneday when we were almost finished we sent the big boys for two trees for thecross. And it was good to see them cut it, nail it together and raise it upsome 15 feet high behind the pulpit and stone platform. Some sixteen miles awayyou can see the Kingston harbor and the open sea. It is lovely and we pray formany wonderful lessons to young hearts in this spot.

The second week in July was dedicated to the underprivileged children of thecamp area and it was a week of rejoicing. Fifty one boys and girls ages 9 to 15attended. It was a day camp beginning with breakfast and ending with vespers. Now after two more weeks of work we are ready for the sleep-in camps.

Thank you for your loving gift. It is truly appreciated for you have come tomean much to us in the joys and sorrows of our work. Just two days ago our beloved Bro Levy went to be with the Lord. He has assisted Jim in the ministryat Memorial Chapel for several years and then for six years at Meadowbrook andwas chairman of our Home board. We rejoice for himbut we sorrow in our own loss of this faithfulbeloved friend of more than 22 years. As hewoke in the morning he told the nurses he wasgoing home that day. At noon he roused and began singing lustily, "I will meet you in themorning..preached a sermon, and then gradually quieted until he slipped away.

    Keep us in your prayers.

All summed up in one small word, but the most powerful inany language: Love. And it does not matterwhat pains we take to dowhat is in our mortal, selfish eyes, "good", without love, all is nought.Paul said it ringingly: "Andnow abideth faith, hope, love, but the greatest ofthese is love."

And love is not an abstractword. Love is an act positive.A declaration of courage, and faith in God's word.To live by a value-systemin which the spiritual love-act is de;cided by the sizeof a bank account, theslant of an eye, the curveof .1 nose, the colour of askin, is a mockery of theword. For no man is anisland. What diminishesmy brother, diminishes me.

Right in the middle of the song comesthe word banana...yes, those "tall Banana TreeTrees." So instead of singing it like Americanswould, they all cheered out Bahnahnah trees. They had been noticing Wayne's accent allweek long and decided to say it like hw did.Yes, we had a lovely visit and we are tliankfulfor the help tliey gave to all of our family inJamaica.

    Dear Friends,

How beautiful are the Psalms! Listen to this..."Trust in theLord, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verilythou shalt be fed." (37*3) And they express the praise to Godfrom our own hearts daily. Yes, we praise and thank Him for thewonderful way He has met our needs. V/hen we received our financial report from our auditors we were amazed to see how our income had increased to meet the needs. So we continue to trustand to praise God...and to thank you.

Sun Mountain is now ready for the bulldozing of our play fieldsand building sites. Surveyors worked for more than two weekstaking levels and planning the work. We can certainly tell youthat it is exciting progress.

The boys of our Home have already begun memorizing the ChristmasScripture story and are humming carols. It comes early to thembecause of school programs being held In early December. The outstanding event for October was a Rally at Sun Mountain whenover 90 peopje from Meadowbrook and August Town churches met for aday of study and praise and fellowship. It was our first adultrally there and the folks were so thrilled with the success of itthat they are already planning a bigger one for the after-Christmas holiday. The messages were rich and the singing really great. And we were glad that the food was plentiful or our dear littlegoat might have found herself in the cooking pot.

Our vehicles have been in the shop too often in recent months andwe realize that we must do something about a new one. As fromDecember 1st we will be prayerfully laying aside funds toward thisand we are asking you to pray with us for this need. V/ould youlike to help? Also, Christmas shirts, pants and socks are alwayswelcome and helpful as well as Christmas toys.

We continue to preach Christ and we continue to seek your prayersin our behalf. Thank you once again for being so helpful and interested in our work. We ask God's rich blessing for you.

    stian lov
