Chris will continue toadministrate the school at Ticousin. She has been asked to assumethe responsibility of Director of Educational Development atChristianville. She will be continuing to work in this capacity bothin the school at Ticousin and at Christianvilles schools. Thegoals set for Coeur d'Haiti, Christianville's evangelisticextension, are still in effect. With the present change, there willbe more resources and personnel to accomplish Coeur d'Haiti's andChristianville's main goal, to establish Christian Churches insouthwest Haiti.

Tt has been three years sinceHaiti's President for life fled

the coimtry, leaving animpoverished, confused nationbehind. Since then, several"presidents" have come andgone, foreign aide has beenreduced andmany peoplehave sufferedfrom a continualeconomic declineand generaldeterioration ofthe country. What does thefuture hold for Haiti? No oneperson can say. Scatteredefforts have been made toimprove present conditions.Only time will tell howsubstantial and long-lastingthese efforts will be.

Haiti's FutureYet, progress has been and

continues to be made in anarea many overlook. Thechurch is growing steadily, evenamidst extreme difficulty andtrial. The church in Ticousinstarted with 25 people and now

1988 brought the beginningof a nucleus for a church in theJacmel area, through aWednesday night Bible study. In another area. Petit Goave, the initial ground work for achurch has been established.

The planting timeis set for the firstpart of the NewYear.

God is leading Haiti forward and weas laborers are anxious to continue on

with the task! What does thefuture hold forHaiti? It is hard to

say. But, in the area ofKingdom Work, God is leadingHaiti forward and we, aslaborers are anxious tocontinue on with the task!

^he goal of COEUR d'Haitiis to plant indigenous

churches. The word"indigenous" comes from twolatin words, endo "within" andgignere "to beget". From this,Webster draws the meaning"having originated in and beingproduced."

Just how does an indigenouschurch come about? Thereseems to be three phases ofdevelopment through which achurch must grow to arrive atbeing indigenous. However, allthree phases must beimplemented from the outset,or the serious danger ofstopping at and being satisfiedwith anything other than beingindigenous is a real possibility. The three phases are: themission church, theautonomous church, and theindigenous church.

The mission church is onewhere the responsibility of thespiritual leadership and

The Indigenous Churchfinances are met outside of theindividual "church body". But,they should not be fully metfrom outside of that body. Themission church should carrysome of the responsibility bothfinancially and spiritually, evenif it is very minimal. As itgrows, the mission churchshould assume more and moreof it's own responsibility. There is danger in the churchremaining a mission church iffrom the outset it is notallowed to shoulder some ofthe responsibility.

The autonomous church isone where the responsibility ofspiritual leadership andfinances are fully met withinthe individual "church body". Itis self- sustaining, not requiringmissionary or mission funds forits continued functioning. There is a danger of "havingarrived" when a church reachesthis point. The autonomouschurch tends to forget that its

The church/school at "Balance" is one of two sibling churchesplanted by members of the Ticousin Church.

    COEUR d'Haiti

goal is not self- perpetuation, but propagation. But, that issomething to be instilled fromits beginning as a missionchurch, so that the focus isoutward and never inward. There needs to be visioninstead of blindingself-aggrandizement in orderfor kingdom goals to beaccomplished.

The indigenous church is onethat has accepted to take onthe responsibility of spiritualleadership and finances to startanother church. This, according to kingdomprinciples, is the expresspurpose of the church body. The church of the first centuryincreased by multiplication. The church of the twentiethcentury can increase bymultiplication, if we wouldshare the vision of the firstcentury church.

ProgressTwo work teams are scheduled to come in February to help

rebuild the much needed shelter for the church/school at Ticousin. We are moving forward, and we appreciate those who are willingto lend a helping hand.

An affordable piece of land has been located for a school facilityat Ticousin. Plans are in the early stages. Thank you to all whohave undergirded this effort in prayer.

Thank youA sincere thank you to all who helped purchase gifts, books, and

uniforms for the unsponsored children in the school. Each childreceived a pair of shoes and socks for New Year's and all have thebooks they need because of your kindness! There are still severalwithout uniforms but we are trusting God to provide. Thank youvery much!

A Light toHeavy rains and floods

earlier in the year left the dirtroad in front of thechurch/school at Ticousinlooking like mud soup. Thecrippling effect this had in thecommunity caused the men ofthe church to want to takeaction. They went from hut tohut receiving small donationstowards purchasing gravel to

Those Aroundrepair the road. The missionprovided the gas and the truck. After 15 days of loading andunloading gravel and diggingtrenches, the road was likenew. The willingness on thepart of the men of the churchto work together without paywas a true witness for Christinthe surrounding community.
