something of a shock in country quarters. He’s so entrenched in the genre he’s be-come part of the bedrock, a landmark to be marveled at repeatedly over the decades.

The 60-year-old Country Music Hall of Fame member from Texas released his first single “Unwound” in 1981, before some of today’s top stars were born. Since then he’s had 59 No. 1 country

singles and is the only artist to score a Top 10 hit in every year of his career. All his albums have gone platinum or gold, selling more than 68 million copies.

Traditional country singer Joe Nichols acknowledged Strait’s impact when he called the singer “the Rolling Stones of country music” in a 2010 interview. And in a lot of ways, that’s been true. Until now. The Stones refuse to retire from the road, while Strait has decided to do it on his own terms.

“I’m sure I’ll miss it. I’m sure I will,” Strait said. “How can you not after doing it for so long. It was a hard decision to make. It was tough. I’ve lost sleep. But I think about midway through this tour I’ll realize that, yeah, I did make the right decision. It’s just a part of it.”

The first leg of the tour will kick off Jan. 18 in Lubbock, Texas, and end June 1 in San Antonio. Dates for 2014 will be announced later. Martina McBride will join Strait on tour in 2013.

Strait said he was nervous about whether fans will come out and see him, but that’s rarely been a cause for concern over the years. His live show is one of country’s top draws. He’s sold more than 4.3 million headlining concert tickets since 1999, according to Pollstar, an average of more than 18,000 per performance.

He said one of his most memorable per-formances was his last-minute replacement of Eddie Rabbitt at the 1984 Houston Ro-deo in the Astrodome: “He just happened to get a case of laryngitis, which was a stroke of luck for me.” And he also fondly remembers opening for Willie Nelson in those early years: “I opened for Willie at a fair one time and we were right in the middle of our set and the crowd just starts going crazy and I’m thinking, ‘They’re really liking this stuff.’ I look behind me and Willie’s bus is pulling up.”

ous threats such as sedimentation or siltation. As consequence, their carrying capacity decreased.

In addition, the lakes in Bali faced a threat of eutrophication because a lot of nutrients around the lake went into the lake and caused the lake too fertile. If the lake was fertile it would be overgrown by aquatic plants such as algae. As a result, it would add the organic matter in the lake and accelerate the siltation. To that end, there should be

a comprehensive effort to keep the lake in Bali. “If the four lakes in Bali experience siltation, it is tantamount to half the water re-serves in Bali vanishing and when all springs turn dry Bali will experience severe water cri-sis,” he said. Further, he said the waterworks generally used surface water.

EvEry Temple and Shrine has a special date for it annual Ceremony, or “ Odalan “, every 210 days according to Balinese calendar, including the smaller ancestral shrine which each family possesses. Because of this practically every few days a ceremony of festival of some kind takes place in some Village in Bali. There are also times when the entire island celebrated the same Holiday, such as at Galungan, Kuningan, Nyepi day, Saraswati day, Tumpek Landep day, Pagerwesi day, Tumpek Wayang day etc.

The dedication or inauguration day of a Temple is con-sidered its birth day and celebration always takes place on the same day if the wuku or 210 day calendar is used. When new moon is used then the celebration always happens on new moon or full moon. The day of course can differ the religious celebration of a temple lasts at least one full day with some temple celebrating for three days while the celebration of Besakih temple, the Mother Temple, is never less than 7 days and most of the time it lasts for 11 days, depending on the importance of the occasion.

The celebration is very colorful. The shrine are dressed with pieces of cloths and sometimes with brocade, sailings, decorations of carved wood and sometimes painted with gold and Chinese coins, very beautifully arranged, are hung in the four corners of the shrine. In front of shrine are placed red, white or black umbrellas depending which Gods are worshipped in the shrines.

In front of important shrine one sees, besides these umbrellas soars, tridents and other weapons, the “umbul-umbul”, long flags, all these are prerogatives or attributes of Holiness. In front of the Temple gate put up “Penjor”, long bamboo poles, decorated beautifully ornaments of young coconut leaves, rice and other products of the land. Most beautiful to see are the girls in their colorful attire, carrying offerings, arrangements of all kinds fruits and colored cakes, to the Temple. Every visitor admires the grace with which the carry their load on their heads.

Denpasar (Bali Post) –The car wheel that was driven by

Kade Sugendra (45) suddenly when flat when passing former Indonesian Bank Building at Patimura Street, Denpasar last Wednesday (26/9) when about to go back to Batubulan. It is strongly suspected that the wheel was being deflated purposely by someone irresponsible as Sugendra brought IDR 500 million cash after withdrawing it at Bank Central Asia (BCA) Hasanudin Branch, Denpasar. Luckily the wheel went flat near to Bali Police Headquarters. “I was scared that it was done by a criminal as there are many incidents like that. When the victim stopped, the money was then taken. So then I went to the Bali Police Headquarters so it is safe,” Sugendra stated when met at the Headquarters.

As instructed by his boss, Sug-endra had to take the money from BCA Hasanudin branch accompa-nied by a driver, Ketut Arya (28).

They withdraw the money at 10.30 am local time and after that they go back to their office at Batubulan yet as passing Veteran Street there was something weird with the car and turns out the wheel later went flat. “I was sure that this is a crime act moreover I have experienced the same thing before and I prefer to change the wheel in a crowded area,” Sugendra explained.

Before coming in to the headquar-ters, they met an officer, First Inspec-tor Luh Surya, who was supervising the traffic. Seeing what happened, Luh suggested them to go in the headquarters so it is safe. Arya then change the wheel at Bali Police and stated that he wasn’t aware that the car’s wheel is being deflated as there was no one acting strange around yet for safety they went to the headquar-ters. “It has been often suggested if withdrawing a lot of cash it is best to ask for security from the police to ac-company,” Luh clarified. California law had previously not recognized or prohibited au-tonomous self-driving cars, but that changed with the signing ceremony held at the Googleplex in Mountain View, Calif., on Tues-day (Sept. 25). Brown took a ride in one of Google’s self-driving vehicles before signing Senate Bill 1298 — legislation that of-ficially approves test driving of autonomous cars on public roads and paves the way for the U.S. public to legally drive such cars in several years.

“Autonomous vehicles are another example of how Califor-nia’s technological leadership is turning today’s science fiction into tomorrow’s reality,” Brown said.

“This law will allow California’s pioneering engineers to safely test and implement this amazing new technology.”

Self-driving cars operated by Google have already spent months prowling the San Francisco Bay Area, and automakers such as Ford and Cadillac have also begun developing their own versions. Experts have welcomed the idea of self-driving cars as vehicles that could reduce traffic conges-tion, make roads safer and give improved road access to people such as the elderly or disabled.

“Self-driving cars can trans-form lives and communities — providing transportation to those not currently served, increasing

safety on the road, reducing or eliminating congestion, and turn-ing parking into parkland,” said Sergey Brin, Google co-founder.

Brin accompanied Brown and State Sen. Alex Padilla (D-Pa-coima), author of Senate Bill 1298, during the signing ceremo-ny at Google’s headquarters.

The new California law re-quires backup safety systems in case the self-driving software or hardware fails. Nook tablet with sleek new hardware and a sharper high-definition screen. The bookseller’s move heightens the already intense tablet wars heading into the holiday season. Barnes & Noble said Wednesday that its new Nook HD will come in two sizes, one with a 7-inch screen (measured diagonally), starting at $199, and one with a new 9-inch diagonal screen, called the Nook HD+, starting at $269.

In addition to the new HD screen and a lighter body, Barnes & Noble is also increasing the services the Nook offers, adding a video purchase and rental service, allowing users to maintain different “profiles” and making it easier to browse titles in its book and magazine stores.

New York-based Barnes & Noble, the largest traditional U.S. bookseller, has invested heavily in its Nook e-reader and e-books. In its most recent fiscal quarter, sales of digital content surged 46 percent, but revenue from devices dropped partly due to lower prices. Nook prices in the May-July period were about 23 percent lower than a year ago.

The company is seeking to offset tough competition from online retailers such as Amazon.com, as consumers increasingly move away from traditional books and DVDs to electronic books and streaming video.

The Nook HD is an upgrade to the hardware and services offered by its previous tablets, the Nook Tablet and Nook Color, which Barnes & Noble is phasing out. A mother may al-ways have her children on her mind, literally. New findings reveal that cells from fetuses can migrate into the brains of their mothers, re-searchers say. It remains uncertain whether these cells might be helpful or harmful to mothers, or possibly both, scientists added.

Recent findings showed that during pregnancy, mothers and fetuses often exchange cells that can apparently survive in bodies for years, a phenomenon known as microchimerism. Scientists had found that in mice, fetal cells could even migrate into the brains of mothers. Now researchers have the first evidence fetal cells do so in humans as well.

The investigators analyzed the brains of 59 women who had died between the ages of 32 and 101. They looked for signs of male DNA ?which, they reasoned, would have come from the cells of sons. (They searched for male DNA because female DNA would have been harder to distinguish from a mother’s genes.)

Nearly two-thirds of the women — 37 of the 59 — were found to have traces of the male Y chromosome in multiple regions of their brains. This effect was apparently long-lasting: The oldest female in whom male fetal DNA was detected was 94.

The defense system known as the blood-brain barrier keeps many drugs and germs in the bloodstream from entering the brain. However, doctors have found this barrier becomes more permeable during preg-nancy, which could explain how these fetal cells migrated into the brains of their mothers.

Although 26 of the women had no signs of brain disorders when they were alive, the other 33 had Alzheimer’s disease. The researchers found women with Alzheimer’s were less likely to have male DNA in their brains than women without such a diagnosis.

Each region in Indonesia has different delicacy pursuant to surrounding environment providing the ingredients and tradition maintained. Bali, for instance, has lawar. It has been renowned and tasted by the tongue of foreign tourists. Hot spices supported by a variety of tubers and thinly-chopped vegetables like the young coconut shell, string bean, grated coconut or young papaya will kindle the appetite from the beginning until the end. “If it is indeed proved to exist, it must be dealt with firmly. The rules must be en-forced,” said Rumawan Salain in Denpasar.

Aprindo considered the termination of per-mit for modern stores intensified by Denpasar Mayor since three months ago was considered ineffective. It was based on the reason that since the past month, a number of national and international modern store networks began invading Denpasar. The government was ac-cused of being inconsistent with the termina-tion of permit for modern stores after seeing the establishment of new modern stores.

Moreover, the mayoral decree no longer allowed the establishment of modern stores in Denpasar other than those already listed at the moment. It was the Mayoral Decree No. 188.45.495/HK/2011 regarding the restrictions of modern stores in Denpasar. The decree was derived from the Mayoral Regulation No. 9/2009 settling the existence of traditional markets, supermarkets and mini markets, where this regulation also had an-other derivative namely the Mayoral Decree No. 188.45/565/HK/2009. Police fired tear gas Wednesday at rioters hurling gasoline bombs and chunks of marble during Greece’s largest anti-austerity demonstration in six months. They also demanded new elections to oust Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy and his conservative government, which has imposed cutbacks and tax hikes, deepening the gloom in a country struggling with recession and unemployment of nearly 25 percent, the highest among the 17 nations us-ing the common euro currency.

Spain’s central bank warned Wednesday the country’s economy continues to shrink “significantly,”

sending the Spanish stock index tum-bling and its borrowing costs rising.

MOSCOW — Russian Presi-dent Vladimir Putin issued a strong warning Wednesday against inciting violent regime change in the Middle East — an apparent rebuke to Western calls for an end to Syrian President Bashar Assad’s rule.

Putin said the international community should operate as a united front to soothe the tensions in the Mideast and claimed that a bloody regime change would only fuel further unrest.

“Violence only begets vio-lence,” Putin said in a speech to foreign diplomats in Moscow.

The statement appeared to again pit Putin against President Barack Obama, who used his speech at the U.N. General As-sembly this week to call for an end to the Assad regime over its violent crackdown on an uprising that began in March 2011.

Speaking about the rising violence in Syria, Obama said Tuesday that “the future must not belong to a dictator who mas-sacres his people.”

“Together, we must stand with those Syrians who believe in a different vision,” Obama said.

As frustration deepens at the ongoing failure of U.N.-led measures to reach a solution on Syria, officials from a coalition including the United States, the European Union and the Arab League met in the Netherlands last week to devise new ways of isolating the Assad regime.

But Putin said Wednesday that attempts to circumvent U.N.-led diplomatic efforts would prove destructive.

“Such action is fraught with potential for destabilization and chaos,” Putin said. “Life has re-cently given us proof that this is correct. It is time for us to draw lessons from what is happening.”

BEIJING — China on Thursday attacked Japan’s prime minister as obstinate and wrong for saying his nation won’t compromise in their dispute over who owns tiny islands in the East China Sea.

Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda said in New York a day earlier that the islands are clearly an “inherent part of our territory, in light of history and international law.” He said

that issues over the islands should be resolved peacefully and by the rule of law.

“China is strongly disappointed and sternly opposes the Japanese leader’s obstinacy re-garding his wrong position” on the matter, Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang said in a statement that repeated China’s stance that Japan was ignoring historical facts and international laws.

“The country seriously challenges the post-war international order, but tries to take the rules of international law as a cover. This is self-deceiving,” Qin said in a separate state-ment.

Senior diplomats from both countries have met this week in New York and Beijing in an

attempt to mend ties frayed by the spat over the island group in the East China Sea known as Senkaku in Japan and Diaoyu in China.

The islands, held by Japan, are uninhabited but sit astride rich fishing waters and poten-tially large reserves of natural gas. They are also claimed by Taiwan.

Japan’s purchase of some of the islands from their private Japanese owners two weeks ago sparked sometimes violent protests in China that targeted Japanese-owned stores and factories.

Noda defended the purchase as an at-tempt to ensure their “stable management,” but conceded “it seems that China has yet to understand that.”

The fire on Mount Batur took place since Tuesday (Sep 25) around 3:00 p.m. It made residents in the vicinity of Mount Batur, es-pecially the area of Yeh Mampeh, Batur village, panicky.

A number of hotspots ap-peared simultaneously and quick-ly spread. Aside from being caused by dried twigs, the fire spread quickly because of hot weather and the wind was blow-ing strongly.

Information compiled in Kintamani on Wednesday (Sep 26) mentioned if the fire began burning on Tuesday afternoon. Residents with officials who knew the incident had actually attempted to extinguish the fire then. China’s civil aviation policy hinders the country’s budget airline industry in two ways, according to experts. First, it makes it almost impossible for a private company to start a new airline. Second, the policy lim-its growth by existing airlines, including state-run carriers, through measures including requiring approvals for new air-planes and routes.

For airlines operating in China, “they’ve got constraints whether it be on operating strategy, or what they’re allowed to do at the airports, or how they’re allowed

to recruit pilots, or what the air-port charges,” said Con Korfiatis, director of Flight Ideas Consult-ing. “So the low-cost carrier explosion in China is still being constrained.”

According to Jro Mangku Pasek Sekalan Marga, I Ketut Arthana, the life of children born in wuku wayang would always be tempt-ed by Bhatara Kala with the permission of Lord Shiva. As the son of Lord Shiva, Bhatara Kala in a manifestation of big giant would try to tempt the children with a variety of efforts. Well, to avoid the interference of Bhatara Kala, the children should be given exorcism rite by presenting a shadow puppet.

The shadow puppet presented was not an ordinary one, but belonged to Wayang Sapuh Leger or Wayang Sudamala. Both types of shadow puppet were almost the same as the shadow puppet intended for evening enter-tainment. However, in the performance of shadow puppet for exorcism rite of children born in the wuku wayang would take special storyline and offerings. By and large, the story performed usually entitled Dewa Kala or Siwa Rare Kumara. Meanwhile, the Wayang Suda-mala took the story Dewi Durga exorcised by Sahadeva.

Jero Mangku Arthana said that children born in the wuku wayang should get an exor-cism rite to release them from any danger. Otherwise, behavior of those children would be influenced by demonic behavior filled with evil passions. “If family is unable to organize the shadow puppet show, they can only invoke the holy water to purify the children from any temptation,” he said.

The ritual was usually performed coinciding with the otonan after the child was 6 months old (210 days) according to the Balinese calendar. The ritual was held in the morning, while the shadow puppet show was held in the evening. Although functioning as a ritual puppet, in the performance the puppeteer re-mained to accentuate the quality. Well, after the puppet show was over, the child was then given an exorcism rite.

Aside from functioning to exorcize children born in wuku wayang, the shadow puppet show was also held for other ceremonial events. For example, wayang lemah was presented to ac-company some ceremonies (Deva Yajña, Rishi Yajña, Manushya Yajña, Pitri Yajña and Bhuta Yajña) that put more emphases on a sacrifice. The storyline presented was adjusted to the type of ceremony held.

Well, to distinguish the shadow puppet for ritual and entertainment, the Hindu com-munity in Bali classified the shadow puppet show into three, namely the performance for wali (complementary ceremony), bebali (supporting the ceremony) and balih-balihan (entertainment). (IBP/Doc)

UNITED NATIONS - U.N. members appeared deeply divided on Wednesday as they sought to resolve the crisis in Mali, with France and some of Mali’s neighbors backing possible military intervention, while the United States said the West African nation must first have an elected government.

A special U.N. session on Mali, held on the sidelines of the an-nual General Assembly, was intended to devise a plan for a nation that descended into chaos in March after a military coup toppled the president, leaving a power vacuum that enabled local Tuareg rebels to seize nearly two-thirds of the country.

Islamist groups have since hijacked the rebellion in the north, imposing strict Islamic law in regions under their control and spur-ring fears that religious extremist fighters could further destabilize the region.

Islamist groups including the al Qaeda-linked Ansar Dine have carried out public whippings of alleged adulterers and destroyed UNESCO-listed shrines of local saints in the ancient town of Timbuktu, arguing such worship was un-Islamic.

“There is an urgency to act to end the suffering of the people of Mali and to prevent a similar situation that would be even more complicated in the Sahel and the rest of the world,” Malian Prime Minister Cheick Modibo Diarra told the General Assembly.

France, Mali’s former colonial power, called on Wednesday for the U.N. Security Council to adopt as soon as possible a resolution enabling military intervention in northern Mali, a call that has been supported by some West African nations that fear Mali’s chaos will spread beyond its borders.

French President Francois Hollande warned that Mali’s territo-rial integrity should be restored as soon as possible and that any lost time would only complicate matters.

JAKARTA — Rescuers continued to search Indonesian waters Thursday for people reported missing after a ferry collided with another ship and sank, with officials fearing some were trapped in cars on the wrecked vessel.

At least eight people were killed in Wednesday’s accident, most likely drowning after jumping into the sea without life jackets, said Heru Purwanto, an official at Bakauheni port on southern Sumatra.

More than 210 passengers and crew were rescued in the hours after the accident, but an unknown number are feared missing.

The ferry manifest listed 213 passengers and crew and 78 vehicles on the ferry, but manifests are often unreliable in Indonesia because tickets are sold onboard to passengers who are never registered.

The search for survivors was continuing after many family members came forward to report the names of missing loved ones.

Some passengers were believed to be inside vehicles parked on the ferry when it sank, said Budi Harto, who heads the local disaster management agency in Lampung province. He said divers were facing a difficult task due to the location of the wreck, which was in waters as deep as 90 meters (295 feet).

The other ship in the accident was not seriously damaged. Singapore-based Norgas Carriers Pte. Ltd. said in a statement that the propylene chemical the ship was carrying did not leak and there was no pollution caused by the accident.

The accident happened about 40 minutes into the ferry’s 90-minute journey between Java and Sumatra islands.

The ferry sank 20 minutes after the captain sent a distress signal, but that was enough time to allow 10 merchant ships sailing nearby to immediately start rescuing passengers and crew, Purwanto said.

More than 80 passengers were hospitalized with injuries, including at least one in critical condition.

Ferries are a major source of transportation in Indonesia, the world’s largest archipelago nation, with more than 17,000 islands and a population of 240 million. Sea accidents are common due to overcrowding and poor safety standards.

Presiding Judge Gusrizal of the country’s Corruption Court says 63-year-old Miranda Swaray Goel-tom was found guilty Thursday of bribing lawmakers responsible for vetting candidates for a top Bank Indonesia post in 2004.

Goeltom was arrested in June for conspiring with businesswoman Nunun Nurbaetie in paying $2.2 million in bribes to legislators to vote for her. She was eventually selected to the post.

“The draft Financial System Safety Net (JPSK) law must be immediately approved so the country can be well-prepared for potential crises,” he said during the opening of a seminar on Indonesian Deposit Insurance Corpora-tion (LPS) here on Wednesday.

With the JPSK law in place, Boediono added, the country would have a strong legal umbrella under which it would be easier for administrative officials to make decisions in response to an economic crisis.

“If the legal foundation is not strong, everyone will be wary of taking action and it will have negative consequences,” he pointed out.

Boediono said the JPSK law was part of the government`s efforts to develop a protocol to ensure that remedial measures could be implemented efficiently and effectively at times of national crisis.

“A crisis response must be synchronized and unified. That is our experi-ence from dealing with crises in the past,” he added.

“The LPS is like a fortresses of defence during times of crisis because it guarantees the security of public funds in banks and, thereby, the public`s trust in the economy,” the vice president stated.

“The global economy is still riddled with uncertainties, so the govern-ment must remain ready to face any eventuality,” Boediono pointed out.

He said the government must pay extra attention to the financial sector, which was one of the most vulnerable sectors during economic crises.

“The financial sector is usually slow in responding to a crisis,” Bo-ediono noted.

Hyundai has unveiled the WRC i20 it intends to use for its return to the World Rally Championship next year, at this week’s Paris Motor Show. McLaren is ready to match Mercedes’ wage offer to Lewis Hamilton in a bid to further tempt the former world champion to remain at his current team. On the back of frenzied speculation about Hamilton’s future caused by Eddie Jordan’s claim that he would move to Mercedes in 2013, negotiations have been ongoing between the Briton’s management team, XIX Entertainment, and McLaren.

Although no deal has yet been agreed, high-level sources sug-gest that the wage deal on offer is no longer an issue. McLaren is believed to be offering at least, if not more, than the approximate £11.5 million per season deal that it is understood Mercedes has put on the table.

The main issue to be debated now is whether or not the greater commercial freedom that Hamilton could have at Mercedes - be-cause personal sponsorship deals are not as tightly controlled as they are at McLaren - is worth enough for Hamilton and XIX to consider it a better option.

McLaren has a number of extensive commercial tie-ups with companies like Hugo Boss that limit the personal sponsorship possibilities that are open to its drivers.

The five-metre (16 feet) bronze statue, by artist Adel Abdesse-med, captures the moment when the French captain lunged at Materazzi’s chest during extra time.

Zidane was sent off and never played international football again. France, who won the World Cup in 1998, lost the final to Italy on penalties.

PARIS - Zinedine Zidane’s infamous headbutt on Italian Marco Materazzi in the 2006 World Cup final has been immortalised in a statue now on display in Paris.

The five-metre (16 feet) bronze statue, by artist Adel Abdesse-med, captures the moment when the French captain lunged at Materazzi’s chest during extra time.

Zidane was sent off and never played international football again. France, who won the World Cup in 1998, lost the final to Italy on penalties.

Zidane later said he head-butted Materazzi because of insulting comments the Italian made to him on the pitch.

The statue is being exhibited in front of Paris’s Pompidou centre and will remain on display until Jan 7 next year.

Hyundai has unveiled the WRC i20 it intends to use for its return to the World Rally Championship next year, at this week’s Paris Motor Show. While the company declined to go into the specifics of its return, it is ex-pected Hyundai will compete in selected events in the WRC next year ahead of a full programme in 2014.

The European-built WRC i20 is Hyundai’s first World Rally Car since 2003, and the first WRC built by the Korean com-pany itself.

The f i rm’s p rev ious p ro-gramme was run by British firm Motor Spor t Developments . Mark Hall, Hyundai Motor Eu-rope’s managing director, said the WRC was a perfect fit for Hyundai’s brand image.

McLaren is ready to match Mercedes’ wage offer to Lewis Hamilton in a bid to further tempt the former world champion to remain at his current team. On the back of frenzied speculation about Hamilton’s future caused by Eddie Jordan’s claim that he would move to Mercedes in 2013, negotiations have been ongoing between the Briton’s management team, XIX Entertainment, and McLaren.

Although no deal has yet been agreed, high-level sources sug-gest that the wage deal on offer is no longer an issue. McLaren is believed to be offering at least, if not more, than the approximate £11.5 million per season deal that it is understood Mercedes has put on the table.

The main issue to be debated now is whether or not the greater commercial freedom that Hamilton could have at Mercedes - be-cause personal sponsorship deals are not as tightly controlled as they are at McLaren - is worth enough for Hamilton and XIX to consider it a better option.

McLaren has a number of extensive commercial tie-ups with companies like Hugo Boss that limit the personal sponsorship possibilities that are open to its drivers.

However, as Hamilton’s current deal with Reebok shows, there is scope for personal deals to be part of a McLaren package. And sources suggest the outfit may be willing to be more flexible in what it allows Hamilton to do if it guarantees securing his future.

The financial situation is also further complicated by the fact that any deals Hamilton could get at Mercedes may not be as much as win bonus possibilities he could have at McLaren. McLaren boss Martin Whitmarsh said over the Singapore Grand Prix weekend that he felt Hamilton appeared more focused.

When asked by AUTOSPORT whether there were any worries that the disappointment of retiring from the race would impact on Hamilton’s decision about his future, Whitmarsh said: “I have to say that Lewis has been incredibly strong. “I’ve spoken to Lewis first hand and he is in a very focused frame of mind. UNITED NATIONS - U.N. members appeared deeply divided on Wednesday as they sought to resolve the crisis in Mali, with France and some of Mali’s neighbors backing possible military intervention, while the United States said the West African nation must first have an elected government.

A special U.N. session on Mali, held on the sidelines of the an-nual General Assembly, was intended to devise a plan for a nation that descended into chaos in March after a military coup toppled the president, leaving a power vacuum that enabled local Tuareg rebels to seize nearly two-thirds of the country.

Islamist groups have since hijacked the rebellion in the north, imposing strict Islamic law in regions under their control and spur-ring fears that religious extremist fighters could further destabilize the region.

Islamist groups including the al Qaeda-linked Ansar Dine have carried out public whippings of alleged adulterers and destroyed UNESCO-listed shrines of local saints in the ancient town of Timbuktu, arguing such worship was un-Islamic.

“There is an urgency to act to end the suffering of the people of Mali and to prevent a similar situation that would be even more complicated in the Sahel and the rest of the world,” Malian Prime Minister Cheick Modibo Diarra told the General Assembly.

France, Mali’s former colonial power, called on Wednesday for the U.N. Security Council to adopt as soon as possible a resolution enabling military intervention in northern Mali, a call that has been supported by some West African nations that fear Mali’s chaos will spread beyond its borders.

French President Francois Hollande warned that Mali’s territo-rial integrity should be restored as soon as possible and that any lost time would only complicate matters.

More than 210 passengers and crew were rescued in the hours after the accident, but an unknown number are feared missing.

The ferry manifest listed 213 passengers and crew and 78 vehicles on the ferry, but manifests are often unreliable in Indonesia because tickets are sold onboard to passengers who are never registered.

The search for survivors was continuing after many family members came forward to report the names of missing loved ones.

Some passengers were believed to be inside vehicles parked on the ferry when it sank, said Budi Harto, who heads the local disaster management agency in Lampung province. He said divers were facing a difficult task due to the location of the wreck, which was in waters as deep as 90 meters (295 feet).

The other ship in the accident was not seriously damaged. Singapore-based Norgas Carriers Pte. Ltd. said in a statement that the propylene chemical the ship was carrying did not leak and there was no pollution caused by the accident.

The accident happened about 40 minutes into the ferry’s 90-minute journey between Java and Sumatra islands.

The ferry sank 20 minutes after the captain sent a distress signal, but that was enough time to allow 10 merchant ships sailing nearby to immediately start rescuing passengers and crew, Purwanto said.

More than 80 passengers were hospitalized with injuries, including at least one in critical condition.

Ferries are a major source of transportation in Indonesia, the world’s largest archipelago nation, with more than 17,000 islands and a population of 240 million. Sea accidents are common due to overcrowding and poor safety standards.

Presiding Judge Gusrizal of the country’s Corruption Court says 63-year-old Miranda Swaray Goel-tom was found guilty Thursday of bribing lawmakers responsible for vetting candidates for a top Bank Indonesia post in 2004.

Goeltom was arrested in June for conspiring with businesswoman Nunun Nurbaetie in paying $2.2 million in bribes to legislators to vote for her. She was eventually selected to the post.

needs a strong legal umbrella in order to effectively deal with economic crises in the future.

“The draft Financial System Safety Net (JPSK) law must be immediately approved so the country can be well-prepared for potential crises,” he said during the opening of a seminar on Indonesian Deposit Insurance Corpora-tion (LPS) here on Wednesday.

With the JPSK law in place, Boediono added, the country would have a strong legal umbrella under which it would be easier for administrative officials to make decisions in response to an economic crisis.

“If the legal foundation is not strong, everyone will be wary of taking action and it will have negative consequences,” he pointed out.

Boediono said the JPSK law was part of the government`s efforts to develop a protocol to ensure that remedial measures could be implemented efficiently and effectively at times of national crisis.

“A crisis response must be synchronized and unified. That is our experi-ence from dealing with crises in the past,” he added.

“The LPS is like a fortresses of defence during times of crisis because it guarantees the security of public funds in banks and, thereby, the public`s trust in the economy,” the vice president stated.

“The global economy is still riddled with uncertainties, so the govern-ment must remain ready to face any eventuality,” Boediono pointed out.

He said the government must pay extra attention to the financial sector, which was one of the most vulnerable sectors during economic crises.

“The financial sector is usually slow in responding to a crisis,” Bo-ediono noted.

Her gripe highlights how Chi-nese travelers have been left out of the massive budget airline boom that has swept Asia. For airlines operating in China, “they’ve got constraints whether it be on operating strategy, or what they’re allowed to do at the airports, or how they’re allowed

to recruit pilots, or what the air-port charges,” said Con Korfiatis, director of Flight Ideas Consult-ing. “So the low-cost carrier explosion in China is still being constrained.”

As the son of Lord Shiva, Bhatara Kala in a manifestation of big giant would try to tempt the children with a variety of efforts. Well, to avoid the interference of Bhatara Kala, the children should be given exorcism rite by presenting a shadow puppet.

The shadow puppet presented was not an ordinary one, but belonged to Wayang Sapuh Leger or Wayang Sudamala. Both types of shadow puppet were almost the same as the shadow puppet intended for evening enter-tainment. However, in the performance of shadow puppet for exorcism rite of children born in the wuku wayang would take special storyline and offerings. By and large, the story performed usually entitled Dewa Kala or Siwa Rare Kumara. Meanwhile, the Wayang Suda-mala took the story Dewi Durga exorcised by Sahadeva.

Jero Mangku Arthana said that children born in the wuku wayang should get an exor-cism rite to release them from any danger. Otherwise, behavior of those children would be influenced by demonic behavior filled with evil passions. “If family is unable to organize the shadow puppet show, they can only invoke the holy water to purify the children from any temptation,” he said.

The ritual was usually performed coinciding with the otonan after the child was 6 months old (210 days) according to the Balinese calendar. The ritual was held in the morning, while the shadow puppet show was held in the evening. Although functioning as a ritual puppet, in the performance the puppeteer re-mained to accentuate the quality. Well, after the puppet show was over, the child was then given an exorcism rite.

Aside from functioning to exorcize children born in wuku wayang, the shadow puppet show was also held for other ceremonial events. For example, wayang lemah was presented to ac-company some ceremonies (Deva Yajña, Rishi Yajña, Manushya Yajña, Pitri Yajña and Bhuta Yajña) that put more emphases on a sacrifice. The storyline presented was adjusted to the type of ceremony held.

Well, to distinguish the shadow puppet for ritual and entertainment, the Hindu com-munity in Bali classified the shadow puppet show into three, namely the performance for wali (complementary ceremony), bebali (supporting the ceremony) and balih-balihan (entertainment). (IBP/Doc)

“So far, Bali has not had the guidelines whereas the basis of tourism is culture. To that end, we encourage the Bali Govern-ment to prepare a guideline for the devel-opment of culture-based tourism sector,” he said.

He said the parties belonging to policy makers should involve or at least listen to the feedback from the tourism industry per-petrators as users of the legislation product generated. The involvement of business community in policy decisions in the Bali

tourism development was aimed to make the development in the sector sustainable.

“Not on the contrary, where it is only for the sake of short-term interest causing damage that threatens the sustainability. As in the Southern Bali, especially in Kuta area, the development tends to give priority to quantity rather than quality. As conse-quence, it kindles the emergence of many hotels with cheaper rates,” he said.

According to him, the massive tourism development making the image of the Bali Island an expensive attraction will be gradually eroded by the presence of many low-cost hotels.

“Aside from damaging the image, is it

necessary to draw 10 million tourists com-ing to Bali? I think it unnecessary. Even, a restriction should be applied so that the tourists coming to Bali will not damage this region due to overloaded capacity and inadequate infrastructure,” he said.

GIPI also urged the government to stop the construction of new hotels because they created an imbalance of nature on the Bali Island. As a world’s tourist destination, Bali should have a quality tourist accom-modation inspired by cultural tourism.

“Bali tourism must be qualified by per-sistently upholding the cultural tourism. It is not a man-made tourism or tourism made by the human self,” he said.

Police fired tear gas Wednesday at rioters hurling gasoline bombs and chunks of marble during Greece’s largest anti-austerity demonstration in six months. The protests were part of a 24-hour general strike, the latest test for Greece’s nearly four-month-old coali-tion government and the new spending cuts it plans to push through.

The brief but intense clashes by several hundred rioters among the 60,000 people protesting in Athens came a day after anti-austerity pro-tests rocked the Spanish capital.

In Madrid, thousands of angry protesters again swarmed as close as they could get Wednesday night to Parliament, watched by a heavy contingent of riot police. There was

no fresh violence, but the demon-strators cut off traffic on one of the city’s major thoroughfares at the height of the evening commute.

The protesters chanted for the re-lease of 34 people detained Tuesday night in clashes that injured 64 others. They also demanded new elections to oust Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy and his conservative government, which has imposed cutbacks and tax hikes, deepening the gloom in a country struggling with recession and unemployment of nearly 25 percent, the highest among the 17 nations us-ing the common euro currency.

Spain’s central bank warned Wednesday the country’s economy continues to shrink “significantly,”

sending the Spanish stock index tum-bling and its borrowing costs rising.

Across Europe, stock markets fell as well. Germany’s DAX dropped 2 percent while the CAC-40 in France fell 2.4 percent and Britain’s FTSE 100 slid 1.4 percent. The euro was also hit, down a fur-ther 0.3 percent at $1.2840.

MOSCOW — Russian Presi-dent Vladimir Putin issued a strong warning Wednesday against inciting violent regime change in the Middle East — an apparent rebuke to Western calls for an end to Syrian President Bashar Assad’s rule.

Putin said the international community should operate as a united front to soothe the tensions in the Mideast and claimed that a bloody regime change would only fuel further unrest.

“Violence only begets vio-lence,” Putin said in a speech to foreign diplomats in Moscow.

The statement appeared to again pit Putin against President Barack Obama, who used his speech at the U.N. General As-sembly this week to call for an end to the Assad regime over its violent crackdown on an uprising that began in March 2011.

Speaking about the rising violence in Syria, Obama said Tuesday that “the future must not belong to a dictator who mas-sacres his people.”

“Together, we must stand with those Syrians who believe in a different vision,” Obama said.

As frustration deepens at the ongoing failure of U.N.-led measures to reach a solution on Syria, officials from a coalition including the United States, the European Union and the Arab League met in the Netherlands last week to devise new ways of isolating the Assad regime.

But Putin said Wednesday that attempts to circumvent U.N.-led diplomatic efforts would prove destructive.

“Such action is fraught with potential for destabilization and chaos,” Putin said. “Life has re-cently given us proof that this is correct. It is time for us to draw lessons from what is happening.”

BEIJING — China on Thursday attacked Japan’s prime minister as obstinate and wrong for saying his nation won’t compromise in their dispute over who owns tiny islands in the East China Sea.

Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda said in New York a day earlier that the islands are clearly an “inherent part of our territory, in light of history and international law.” He said

that issues over the islands should be resolved peacefully and by the rule of law.

“China is strongly disappointed and sternly opposes the Japanese leader’s obstinacy re-garding his wrong position” on the matter, Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang said in a statement that repeated China’s stance that Japan was ignoring historical facts and international laws.

“The country seriously challenges the post-war international order, but tries to take the rules of international law as a cover. This is self-deceiving,” Qin said in a separate state-ment.

Senior diplomats from both countries have met this week in New York and Beijing in an

attempt to mend ties frayed by the spat over the island group in the East China Sea known as Senkaku in Japan and Diaoyu in China.

The islands, held by Japan, are uninhabited but sit astride rich fishing waters and poten-tially large reserves of natural gas. They are also claimed by Taiwan.

Japan’s purchase of some of the islands from their private Japanese owners two weeks ago sparked sometimes violent protests in China that targeted Japanese-owned stores and factories.

Noda defended the purchase as an at-tempt to ensure their “stable management,” but conceded “it seems that China has yet to understand that.”

The fire on Mount Batur took place since Tuesday (Sep 25) around 3:00 p.m. It made residents in the vicinity of Mount Batur, es-pecially the area of Yeh Mampeh, Batur village, panicky.

A number of hotspots ap-peared simultaneously and quick-ly spread. Aside from being caused by dried twigs, the fire spread quickly because of hot weather and the wind was blow-ing strongly.

Information compiled in Kintamani on Wednesday (Sep 26) mentioned if the fire began burning on Tuesday afternoon. California law had previously not recognized or prohibited au-tonomous self-driving cars, but that changed with the signing ceremony held at the Googleplex in Mountain View, Calif., on Tues-day (Sept. 25). Brown took a ride in one of Google’s self-driving vehicles before signing Senate Bill 1298 — legislation that of-ficially approves test driving of autonomous cars on public roads and paves the way for the U.S. public to legally drive such cars in several years.

“Autonomous vehicles are another example of how Califor-nia’s technological leadership is turning today’s science fiction into tomorrow’s reality,” Brown said.

“This law will allow California’s pioneering engineers to safely test and implement this amazing new technology.”

Self-driving cars operated by Google have already spent months prowling the San Francisco Bay Area, and automakers such as Ford and Cadillac have also begun developing their own versions. Experts have welcomed the idea of self-driving cars as vehicles that could reduce traffic conges-tion, make roads safer and give improved road access to people such as the elderly or disabled.

“Self-driving cars can trans-form lives and communities — providing transportation to those not currently served, increasing

safety on the road, reducing or eliminating congestion, and turn-ing parking into parkland,” said Sergey Brin, Google co-founder.

Brin accompanied Brown and State Sen. Alex Padilla (D-Pa-coima), author of Senate Bill 1298, during the signing ceremo-ny at Google’s headquarters.

The new California law re-quires backup safety systems in case the self-driving software or hardware fails. Such vehicles must have the ability to come to a stop if the human driver cannot take over during an emergency, and it must record at least half a minute of sensor data at any given time in case of accidents or colli-sions on the road.

Barnes & Noble said Wednesday that its new Nook HD will come in two sizes, one with a 7-inch screen (measured diagonally), starting at $199, and one with a new 9-inch diagonal screen, called the Nook HD+, starting at $269.

In addition to the new HD screen and a lighter body, Barnes & Noble is also increasing the services the Nook offers, adding a video purchase and rental service, allowing users to maintain different “profiles” and making it easier to browse titles in its book and magazine stores.

New York-based Barnes & Noble, the largest traditional U.S. bookseller, has invested heavily in its Nook e-reader and e-books. In its most recent fiscal quarter, sales of digital content surged 46 percent, but revenue from devices dropped partly due to lower prices. Nook prices in the May-July period were about 23 percent lower than a year ago.

The company is seeking to offset tough competition from online retailers such as Amazon.com, as consumers increasingly move away from traditional books and DVDs to electronic books and streaming video.

The Nook HD is an upgrade to the hardware and services offered by its previous tablets, the Nook Tablet and Nook Color, which Barnes & Noble is phasing out. The company will continue to sell its smaller black-and-white e-reader, called the Nook Simple Touch, for $99, and a backlit Nook Simple Touch for $139. The Nook HD runs on Google’s Android 4.0 system and includes Barnes & Noble’s own app store and browser.

A mother may al-ways have her children on her mind, literally. New findings reveal that cells from fetuses can migrate into the brains of their mothers, re-searchers say. It remains uncertain whether these cells might be helpful or harmful to mothers, or possibly both, scientists added.

Recent findings showed that during pregnancy, mothers and fetuses often exchange cells that can apparently survive in bodies for years, a phenomenon known as microchimerism. Scientists had found that in mice, fetal cells could even migrate into the brains of mothers. Now researchers have the first evidence fetal cells do so in humans as well.

The investigators analyzed the brains of 59 women who had died between the ages of 32 and 101. They looked for signs of male DNA ?which, they reasoned, would have come from the cells of sons. (They searched for male DNA because female DNA would have been harder to distinguish from a mother’s genes.)

Nearly two-thirds of the women — 37 of the 59 — were found to have traces of the male Y chromosome in multiple regions of their brains. This effect was apparently long-lasting: The oldest female in whom male fetal DNA was detected was 94.

The defense system known as the blood-brain barrier keeps many drugs and germs in the bloodstream from entering the brain. However, doctors have found this barrier becomes more permeable during preg-nancy, which could explain how these fetal cells migrated into the brains of their mothers.

Although 26 of the women had no signs of brain disorders when they were alive, the other 33 had Alzheimer’s disease. The researchers found women with Alzheimer’s were less likely to have male DNA in their brains than women without such a diagnosis.

“The most important implication of our findings is the potential for both positive and negative consequences of microchimerism in the brain for a number of different diseases that affect the brain, including degenerative diseases and cancer,” researcher William Chan, an im-munologistat the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle, told LiveScience.

Each region in Indonesia has different delicacy pursuant to surrounding environment providing the ingredients and tradition maintained. Bali, for instance, has lawar. It has been renowned and tasted by the tongue of foreign tourists. Hot spices supported by a variety of tubers and thinly-chopped vegetables like the young coconut shell, string bean, grated coconut or young papaya will kindle the appetite from the beginning until the end. Then, chopped meat such as pork, beef, chicken, duck or others are used as the main ingredient, and it gives the name of the lawar itself. This lawar delicacy is over and over again introduced in every occasion of traditional culinary event.

At villages, the ngelawar (preparation of lawar) tradition is begun by togetherness. Villagers usually slaughter a pig or the like and prepare the dishes collectively for special occasions such as personal life-cycle rituals or temple anniversary. From early in the morning, they have been ready to go by bringing along with a sharp knife. Few moments later, the chopping

boards turn crowded sounding tek...tek…tek…tek and goes on. Some prepare spices and vegetables, while the others slice thinly the meat in use. In essence, the pebat or kitchen depart-ment is very busy.

Meanwhile, when celebrating the Galungan and Kuningan festivity, Balinese people (Hindu) may join the collective slaugh-ter known as mepatung while food preparation is undertaken individually. This has something to do with slightly different tastes and interests. The food is prepared for filling some obla-tions other than for consumption. Their food habitually consist of lawar, satay, komoh (clear soup), urutan (sausage), skin crackers, tum (chopped meat mix with spices and then steamed) and so forth.

Other tradition remains to be maintained is ngejot or present-ing food gift to neighbor and relatives. Though they equally have the same delicacy, it is intended to maintain social relationship and exchange the food as theirs may have different tastes.

Similarly, family members will also visit relatives where parent or grandparent comes from. To share the happiness with the ancestral souls, at least family will also bring along sagi offering and be presented to them in the home platform shrine at bale dangin or eastern pavilion.

Today, probably many people are very busy as they must be in charge to work. However, there are always people offering their services by providing ready-to-serve lawar. It is variedly packed in nice bamboo basket containing particular number of satay, lawar and serapah (grated coconut with meat). On that ac-count, people will not be busy to prepare it in case of organizing an event or socio-religious activity.

When making a visit to Bali, it also a good opportunity for you try these delicacies. At least, try the lawar as it has been identi-cal to Balinese cuisine. “If it is indeed proved to exist, it must be dealt with firmly. The rules must be en-forced,” said Rumawan Salain in Denpasar.

Meanwhile, the Denpasar municipality it-self stated that so far it had been consistent in applying the rules. “We also keep monitoring their existence and decisive action has also been imposed based on existing regulations,” said Spokesperson of Denpasar Municipality, Dewa Rai.

As evidence of the assertiveness, he said, there had been several modern stores that were not given permission as violating the rules. Besides, the evidence of partiality against the traditional market, he said, was implemented by revitalizing traditional

Previously, the accusation of the Asso-ciation of Indonesian Retailers (Aprindo) of Bali saying if the Denpasar municipality was inconsistent in implementing the rules on limitation of modern stores considered harmful to traditional stores and local busi-nesses should be addressed.

Aprindo considered the termination of per-mit for modern stores intensified by Denpasar Mayor since three months ago was considered ineffective. It was based on the reason that since the past month, a number of national and international modern store networks began invading Denpasar. The government was ac-cused of being inconsistent with the termina-tion of permit for modern stores after seeing the establishment of new modern stores.

Moreover, the mayoral decree no longer allowed the establishment of modern stores in Denpasar other than those already listed at the moment. It was the Mayoral Decree No. 188.45.495/HK/2011 regarding the restrictions of modern stores in Denpasar. The decree was derived from the Mayoral Regulation No. 9/2009 settling the existence of traditional markets, supermarkets and mini markets, where this regulation also had an-other derivative namely the Mayoral Decree No. 188.45/565/HK/2009. EvEry Temple and Shrine has a special date for it annual Ceremony, or “ Odalan “, every 210 days according to Balinese calendar, including the smaller ancestral shrine which each family possesses. Because of this practically every few days a ceremony of festival of some kind takes place in some Village in Bali. There are also times when the entire island celebrated the same Holiday, such as at Galungan, Kuningan, Nyepi day, Saraswati day, Tumpek Landep day, Pagerwesi day, Tumpek Wayang day etc.

The dedication or inauguration day of a Temple is con-sidered its birth day and celebration always takes place on the same day if the wuku or 210 day calendar is used. When new moon is used then the celebration always happens on new moon or full moon. The day of course can differ the religious celebration of a temple lasts at least one full day with some temple celebrating for three days while the celebration of Besakih temple, the Mother Temple, is never less than 7 days and most of the time it lasts for 11 days, depending on the importance of the occasion.

The celebration is very colorful. The shrine are dressed with pieces of cloths and sometimes with brocade, sailings, decorations of carved wood and sometimes painted with gold and Chinese coins, very beautifully arranged, are hung in the four corners of the shrine. In front of shrine are placed red, white or black umbrellas depending which Gods are worshipped in the shrines.

In front of important shrine one sees, besides these umbrellas soars, tridents and other weapons, the “umbul-umbul”, long flags, all these are prerogatives or attributes of Holiness. In front of the Temple gate put up “Penjor”, long bamboo poles, decorated beautifully ornaments of young coconut leaves, rice and other products of the land. Most beautiful to see are the girls in their colorful attire, carrying offerings, arrangements of all kinds fruits and colored cakes, to the Temple. Every visitor admires the grace with which the carry their load on their heads.

the government together with the community of traders in the future. It was important to keep the market environment clean and beautiful at all times, so that it would not interfere with tourists during their visit to the market. Other than en-vironmental problems, placement of traders should also be arranged better. If it could be carried out by the government and traders, he believed though the Anyar Market was not an art market like the Sukawati art market would be able to attract the visit of foreign tourists.

Denpasar (Bali Post) –The car wheel that was driven by

Kade Sugendra (45) suddenly when flat when passing former Indonesian Bank Building at Patimura Street, Denpasar last Wednesday (26/9) when about to go back to Batubulan. It is strongly suspected that the wheel was being deflated purposely by someone irresponsible as Sugendra brought IDR 500 million cash after withdrawing it at Bank Central Asia (BCA) Hasanudin Branch, Denpasar. Luckily the wheel went flat near to Bali Police Headquarters. “I was scared that it was done by a criminal as there are many incidents like that. When the victim stopped, the money was then taken. So then I went to the Bali Police Headquarters so it is safe,” Sugendra stated when met at the Headquarters.

As instructed by his boss, Sug-endra had to take the money from BCA Hasanudin branch accompa-nied by a driver, Ketut Arya (28).

They withdraw the money at 10.30 am local time and after that they go back to their office at Batubulan yet as passing Veteran Street there was something weird with the car and turns out the wheel later went flat. “I was sure that this is a crime act moreover I have experienced the same thing before and I prefer to change the wheel in a crowded area,” Sugendra explained.

Before coming in to the headquar-ters, they met an officer, First Inspec-tor Luh Surya, who was supervising the traffic. Seeing what happened, Luh suggested them to go in the headquarters so it is safe. The 60-year-old Country Music Hall of Fame member from Texas released his first single “Unwound” in 1981, before some of today’s top stars were born. Since then he’s had 59 No. 1 country

singles and is the only artist to score a Top 10 hit in every year of his career. All his albums have gone platinum or gold, selling more than 68 million copies.

Traditional country singer Joe Nichols acknowledged Strait’s impact when he called the singer “the Rolling Stones of country music” in a 2010 interview. And in a lot of ways, that’s been true. Until now. The Stones refuse to retire from the road, while Strait has decided to do it on his own terms.

“I’m sure I’ll miss it. I’m sure I will,” Strait said. “How can you not after doing it for so long. It was a hard decision to make. It was tough. I’ve lost sleep. But I think about midway through this tour I’ll realize that, yeah, I did make the right decision. It’s just a part of it.”

The first leg of the tour will kick off Jan. 18 in Lubbock, Texas, and end June 1 in San Antonio. Dates for 2014 will be announced later. Martina McBride will join Strait on tour in 2013.

Strait said he was nervous about whether fans will come out and see him, but that’s rarely been a cause for concern over the years. His live show is one of country’s top draws. He’s sold more than 4.3 million headlining concert tickets since 1999, according to Pollstar, an average of more than 18,000 per performance.

He said one of his most memorable per-formances was his last-minute replacement of Eddie Rabbitt at the 1984 Houston Ro-deo in the Astrodome: “He just happened to get a case of laryngitis, which was a stroke of luck for me.” And he also fondly remembers opening for Willie Nelson in those early years: “I opened for Willie at a fair one time and we were right in the middle of our set and the crowd just starts going crazy and I’m thinking, ‘They’re really liking this stuff.’ I look behind me and Willie’s bus is pulling up.”

In addition, the lakes in Bali faced a threat of eutrophication because a lot of nutrients around the lake went into the lake and caused the lake too fertile. If the lake was fertile it would be overgrown by aquatic plants such as algae. As a result, it would add the organic matter in the lake and accelerate the siltation. To that end, there should be

a comprehensive effort to keep the lake in Bali. “If the four lakes in Bali experience siltation, it is tantamount to half the water re-serves in Bali vanishing and when all springs turn dry Bali will experience severe water cri-sis,” he said. Further, he said the waterworks generally used surface water.
