The Holy Family of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph-Dec.29, 2019 Over all [other virtues] put on love, that is, the bond of perfection. — Colossians 3:14 MERRY CHRISTMAS: Dear Parishioners, it is with

great joy to wish all of you Merry Christmas. When all is said and done, Christmas is the Greatest Birthday with the Greatest Meaning. It is the Birthday of Jesus our Savior and God. No wonder it is celebrated all over the world with beautiful decorations. No King or Queen would pretend to have such a birthday as they are limited only to one country and as you know, some of them, because of their abuse of power, have so many enemies even within their country. Jesus is the King of kings who did not abuse His power or took advantage of His people. On the contrary, He is the King who died for his people unlike worldly kings, queens or presidents. Jesus deserves your greatest respect; don’t take it away from Him. There is a movement that tries to take the name of Jesus away from Christmas by saying “Happy Holidays.” But every holiday has a meaning; without Christ, there is neither meaning nor purpose of Christmas. Let us not be shy to wish each other “Merry Christmas”, after all Jesus came for everybody. We Catholics, we know Jesus better than other religions: we know Him through the scriptures, through the Eucharist services celebrated all over the world, most of all, through many miracles known and unknown. We have the proofs that not all religions have. No wonder we should be bold and courageous in witnessing for Jesus. In the same chain of ideas, we should not buy cards that say “Happy Holidays”. If nobody buys them, those companies would change the wording or close for good. Christmas most of all is the incarnation of God into our world. The beginning of the gospel of John describes it in a clear way that leaves no doubt: “In the beginning was the Word: the Word was with God and the Word was God….The Word became flesh and lived among us, and we saw His glory”. (John 1: 1 – 14). This is Jesus, the God made Man just for us to be able to see Him, to touch Him and to worship Him. How blessed we are to be enlightened by God himself! Jesus was born into a family of Nazareth made up of Joseph, Mary and Jesus. His goal is to sanctify our families and to give our families great meaning. No wonder on Christmas, people travel many miles by land, air or sea to spend Christmas with their loved ones. Christmas is the Feast of the family, the traditional family. Let us then learn from this Holy Family given to us by God to strengthen our families weakened by the so-called modernism. Dear parents, Jesus, Mary and Joseph would appreciate it so much if you would bring your children to Church to worship the Baby Jesus born for us in a manger. As the Knights of Columbus say, let us “keep Christ in Christmas”. God bless, Father Bernardin MUGABO
