P: God’s Holy name be praised. L: We journey in the presence of God.
P: And we do not journey alone.
Prayer of Confession (Offered by all) Almighty and Holy One, we cannot begin to count all our possessions. We have
things in our closets, our attics, and our basements. We have things tucked away in
boxes we haven’t opened in years, and still we acquire more. We have so much stuff
and yet, there are those in our communities who can fit all their worldly possessions
in a shopping cart. We know that you, O God, will defend the poor and come to
them in their need. But we, O God, need your forgiveness for we are more attached
3
to our things than we willingly acknowledge. Help us confront our attachment to
pos-sessions and things more honestly so we can share our own abundance more
equitably. Amen.

Silent Prayer
Prayer
The Prayer Jesus taught Us
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil,
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory,
forever. Amen.

The Second Mile Giving for December
The Religious Coalition for Emergency Needs is a Frederick
County non-profit that has been providing residents of
Frederick County with emergency financial assistance for over
30 years. The Religious Coalition is the primary provider of
emergency services on the basis of human needs, such as shelter,
food, medical & dental calls, as well as prescription medications. Coalition
networking programs also assist our neighbors in need to avoid eviction, prevent
utility cutoffs, as well as funding the eight food banks. The Coalition also manages
the Alan P. Linton, Jr. Emergency Shelter, which is the largest and only year-round
shelter for the homeless in Frederick.
Food Bank Suggestions for December
Let’s help our neighbors chase away the chill of winter with
donations of coffee, low-fat/low-sugar instant creamers, hot
chocolate, tea bags, canned soups, and oatmeal. As well as food
donations, cash donations are also accepted by the Glade Valley
Community Services at P. O. Box 655, Walkersville, MD 21793.
There will be a congregational meeting on Sunday, January 12, 2019 to elect new
consistory members. Following worship that day, we will install the new members
and then vote on the proposed by-law change which states. The Consistory will
consist of (7) elected members, referred to as Deacons. In addition, a youth
representative may be appointed to attend Consistory meetings.
SAVE THE DATE
Date: Sunday, January 19th at 4:45 p.m.
At the kitchen on All Saints Street in Frederick
As always we rely on your participation to make this effort a success. We ask for
donations of mac & cheese, salad, rolls and cake and, of course, your time. Look
for the sign up sheet in the coming weeks on the back table in the sanctuary.

Inclement Weather Policy
Sunday School and morning services will be cancelled when the
snow emergency plan is in effect at 8:00 a.m. in Frederick County.
In the event there is inclement weather, but a snow emergency has not been
declared for Frederick County, Glade Church will hold Sunday School and
morning church services. Cancellation announcements will be issued on
our website at www.gladechurch.org, our Facebook page, or on WAFY Key
103.1 FM. We will make every effort to get the announcement out by 8:00
AM.
While we would love to see everyone in church on Sunday morning, we do
not want anyone to hurt themselves trying to get to church. If you have any
doubts about the driving and walking conditions, please make your
personal safety your highest
The sign up sheet for providing altar flowers for a Sunday in 2020 is on
the bulletin board. Please consider signing up to provide the flowers
for a Sunday or two in the new year. You may place them in honor or
memory of someone who is special to you. Consider selecting a Sunday
that coincides with their birthday or another special day. You may wish
to give a donation to the altar flower fund instead. Make the check out
to “Glade UCC” and on the memo line, write “Altar Flower Fund.”
