Ryan said he entered acontest to be featured onMan Caves after seeing apromotion on the NFL Net-work. He watches the NFLNetwork religiously, particu-larly during the long offsea-son.

In order to enter the con-test, Ryan completed a videoentry detailing what hisbasement looked like andwhat he hoped it could be-come. A Man Caves pro-ducer called to tell him hewas a finalist. A few dayslater, Ryan received a phonecall saying he won.

Before the Man Cavescrew arrived, Tiede, a third-generation carpenter andowner of CT Contracting,volunteered to finish thebasement and give the TV

designers a vanilla shell towork with.

The Man Caves crewcame in next. They spent aweek redesigning the base-ment. NFL Network person-ality Solomon Wilcotshelped with the process. Bal-timore Ravens cheerleadersand mascot Poe also visitedthe Donaldson home and

took part in the filming.The Donaldsons were not

allowedto seethe work untilit was completed. Duringtheunveiling, Ryan said hecouldnt believe how detail-oriented the crew was.

They placed a Redskinsscarf on a deer head Ryansaid needed to be incorpo-rated in his basement some-how. Both Ryan and Jessicareceived a personalized jer-

sey with their last name.They were both framed andposted on a side wall next tothe deer head. Stadium seatsfrom M&T Bank Stadiumand RFK Stadium were in-corporated into the design.

The football is autographedby Redskins tight end MikeSellers, his host for the day,and kicker Graham Gano.The crew filmed him at-tempting to kick field goals.

Ryan joked that thefootage will make it seemlike he doesnt have an ath-letic bone in his body. Re-gardless, he said he cantwait to see the show air andis looking forward to hosting

parties for years to come.There wasabsolutely zero

jealousy from my friends,Ryan said. They thought itwas awesome, because it re-ally is for them, too. We hada New Years Eve party with30 to 40 people. We werejust hanging out in the ManCave.

Ryan and Jessica Don-aldson, of Eldersburg,won a contest for a NFL-

themed Man Cave. Theirnew basement will befeatured on an episode ofMan Caves at 8 p.m.Jan. 21 on the DIY Net-work.

Before the renovation

Before the Man Cavescrew spent one weektransforming the Donald-son basement, Ryan usedto watch multiple footballgames at once on usedtelevisions donated byfriends and family. He saton a sofa given to him by

the parents of a friend.

The Donaldsons can

watch five televisions setup along a side wall. Ifthey want to focus on one

event, they can switch toa 96-inch projection

screen set up behind anadjoining removable wall.

The seating

The Donaldsons have

hosted parties withdozens of people already.

Ample seating is avail-able. Leather chairs areset up on a movable cir-

cular platform. Actualstadium seats from RFK

Stadium in Washingtonand M&T Bank Stadium inBaltimore were incorpo-

rated into the design.

The extras

The Donaldsons can do

more than just watch tel-evision in the basement.The Man Cave design-

ers also installed a ma-roon pool table and a

Foosball table and a com-plete bar with a Kegera-tor.

The memorabilia

The Donaldsons root forthe Washington Redskinsand Baltimore Ravens, sothe designers made sureto incorporate memora-bilia in every nook andcranny. A photo of Red-skins running back Clin-ton Portis doing ahandstand in the endzone is along one wall.Sports Illustrated coversfeaturing WashingtonRedskins surround theprojection screen.
