Celebrating Wonderful Water

May is a time to celebrate all the wonder-ful ways water makes our life amazing. Water we can drink, water that ener-

gizes our world and water where we can play. The PUD’s Water Utility provides safe and reliable drinking water to more than 22,000 homes and businesses in the Lake Stevens, Granite Falls and surrounding areas. Delivering safe drinking water takes plenty of work. PUD crews diligently maintain pipes and pumps and perform regular water sampling throughout the year to ensure that water quality requirements are met. Protecting our water sources is critically important. Water also helps keep the lights on for PUD customers. In the past decade, the PUD has also developed four run-of-the-river hydroelectric projects that protect fish populations and river flows.

It’s also important to keep the area around the outside compressor free of weeds and debris. Have a professional clean and inspect your central air-conditioning unit every spring to ensure that it’s tuned and ready for summer. You’ll save energy and extend the life of your system.

Gov. Inslee Visits PUD’s Innovative Arlington Microgrid ProjectLast month, Governor Jay Inslee stopped by the Arlington Microgrid to learn how the PUD’s innovative project will demon-strate a variety of new utility tech-nologies, including battery storage, community solar and vehicle-to-grid (V2G) charging systems. During his tour, Gov. Inslee got to see inside the PUD’s giant 1 megawatt/1.4 megawatt-hour lithium-ion battery storage system, and learn how V2G systems can benefit the grid and intelligent solar PV controllers work to inte-grate renewable energy. Gov. Inslee also received a tour of the PUD’s Community Solar array, the largest in the state. The PUD’s Community Solar array granted 10% of its solar units to helping low-income customers through partnerships with HopeWorks and the Stanwood/Camano Community Resource Center. The PUD received $3.5 million from the state’s Clean Energy Fund to build the Arlington Microgrid, which will demonstrate how energy storage in combination with a renewable energy resource can be utilized for disaster recovery, grid resiliency and renewable integration.
