The world is evolving fast, and the way people
around the globe live their daily lives is undergoing
major changes. Three decades from now, two thirds
of the world‘s population will live in cities. Solutions
for sustainable, efficient and environmentally
friendly urban agglomerations have to be found.
In Austria we take the topic of smart cities very seri-
ously. We are developing many different projects
with the idea of creating cities and towns that combi-
ne innovative concepts for waste and water manage-
ment, mobility and energy supply. As a consequence
of this trend, Austria‘s companies also focus more
and more on providing solutions for the changing
requirements of cities and towns.
Through our participation at the Smart City Expo
World Congress (SCEWC) we are proud to present

Gmbh & Co KG (ASCR) was founded by Siemens AG
Austria (44.1%), Wien Energie GmbH (29.95%), Wiener
Netze GmbH (20%) and the City of Vienna
(Wirtschaftsagentur Wien 4.66%; Wien 3420 Holding
GmbH, 1.29%). A cooperation model of this magnitude
is, up to now, unique.
ASCR's basic aim is to develop solutions for the ener-
gy future of urban areas and to make energy systems
more efficient and climate-friendly.
Research is being carried out under real-life conditi-
ons with the use of data gathered in the new aspern
Seestadt district in Vienna, involving all the compo-
nents of the energy system – the grid (Smart Grid), the
buildings (Smart Building), information and communi-
cation technology (Smart ICT) and the users (Smart
Users).
The results are used in order to develop smart and
efficient solutions for future urban development,
energy planning and living comfort. ASCR provides
research which is the basis for developing and run-
ning future energy systems in urban areas.
The aim is to benefit the City of Vienna and its inhabit-
ants.

Kohlbach is a renowned manufacturer of biomass
heating plants and installations. 70 years of experi-
ence, extensive knowledge about wood as an energy
source and a large number of patents speak for them-

The water, steam, and thermal oil boiler installations
