Essentially ‘Profile Pages’ for Brands or Companies. Individuals can Become Administrators for Fan Pages. Every Fan Page has at Least 1 Admin.

How Do You Create a Fan Page for Your Business?

You Must Have a Personal Profile Page to Create a Fan Page.

Every Fan Page Needs at Least 1 Person to be a Page Administrator.

You Can Invite Others to Become Administrators of the Fan Page too.

Fan Pages Don’t Have the Ability to Email Individuals and Individuals Can’t Email a Fan Page.

Fans Can Post on the Fan Page Wall or Join Discussions; Depending on Your Privacy Settings.

To Create a New Fan Page, Simply Select the ‘Ads and Pages’ Menu Below Your Profile Picture from Your Home Page.

Click the ‘+Create Page’ button on the

‘Ads and Pages’ screen.This screen is your

control panel for all the pages you

admin.

Then Select the ‘Create New Page’ Button on Your ‘Pages You Admin’ Screen.

1. Select the ‘Local Business’

option & the category from the drop down menu.

2. Name your Fan Page.

NOTE: You CANNOT change

the Name or Category once

created!

3. Check the box to confirm you’re an official representative

of the business.

4. Click ‘Create Official Page’ once you’ve checked everything

for typos!

Select ‘Official Page’ for a Local Business, Follow the Steps Below, and then Populate the Page with Photos and Information to Share.

Pages are Searchable Outside of Facebook.

Viral Nature of News Stream Is What Makes It So Powerful.

When a User “Likes” Your Page, Your Name & Logo Appear on Their Profile Page & in Their Profile Feed (Shows All Their Friends).

So What Should You Post?

Interesting and Relevant Content is KEY

Do they know how to manage their Privacy Settings to protect themselves?

1. Select the ‘Friends’

category below your profile

2. Click the ‘+Create a List’ button on the

Friends screen.

First Things First, Let’s Organize all Your ‘Friends’.

3. In the popup window, Name

your List and click on the

Friends you want to add to it.

4. Select ‘Create List’ when you’re

finished.

You Can Make Custom Lists to Categorize & Organize Your Friends, Family, Clients, Co-Workers, Classmates, Etc.

Friend Lists are Great for Event Invitations, Emailing to Targeted Groups, and Customizing Your Privacy Settings.

Simply Select ‘Customize’ from any Privacy Drop Down Menu and Begin Typing the Name of the List (ex. ‘Clients’) in the

‘Hide this From’ Form.

Now, Onto Privacy Settings…

Facebook Recently Tried to Make Their New Privacy Setting Easier to Manager and Understand.

The New Interface Walks You Through the Steps with a Helpful Diagram and Written Directions.

The ‘Improved Privacy Controls’ notice brings

you to this screen & you can always change

your setting in the ‘Account’ dropdown.

Scroll Down the Page to Read a Description of the Privacy Setting Types; Sharing Content (1), Basic Directory Info. (2), Applications and Websites (3),

and Your ‘Block List’ (4).

We’ll start with the ‘Sharing on Facebook’ Setting (#1 in this example)

Sharing Content: You Control Who Sees Your Status Updates, Photos, Birthday, Religious Views, Contact Info., etc. You Can Use Facebook’s ‘Recommended’ Settings, or Customize

Each Item.

Choose one of Facebook’s presets or

Customize your settings.

If You Click ‘Customize’ on the ‘Sharing’ Screen (previous slide), You are Brought to a New Scrolling Menu with More Options to Fully Customize Your Settings.

This is Where You Can Select the Custom Lists You Created Earlier to Allow /Block Specific Lists from Specific Content as You Please.

Don’t forget to check your Photo Albums Privacy

Settings.

You edit the privacy setting on each Photo Album individually;

‘Everyone’‘Friends of Friends’

‘Only Friends’ or ‘Customize’.

Create a New Album from a Computer to Upload New Photos for Maximum Control of Privacy Settings.

Select ‘Customize’ from any Privacy Drop Down Menu to Specifically Block Individuals or Lists You Create (ex. ‘Clients’) from Viewing Albums, etc.

WARNING: Photos Uploaded Via Email (Some Mobile Devices) are Automatically Shared with Everyone!

You Can Also Change the Privacy Settings for a Specific Status Update!

You can customize your privacy settings wherever you see this little padlock

icon.

Once You are Done Setting Your ‘Sharing on Facebook’ Privacy Settings, Go Back to the Privacy Settings Main Menu and Select

‘Basic Directory Information’ (2).

The ‘Basic Directory Information’ settings is where you can change who can search for you, see your friends lists, your current city and hometown, etc.

You can PREVIEW your profile as other people

see it!

are always open to

‘Everyone’

Keep Your Profile Picture Something You Don’t Mind

Notice There are No Status Updates, or a Tabs for my

You Can Also Test to See What a Specific Individual will See on Your Profile!

Just enter the person’s name in this box on the Preview Screen.

Now You Know How to Create Lists to Categorize Your Friends and Select Your Privacy Settings for Each Section of Your Profile!

Friend Lists are Great for Event Invitations, Emailing to Targeted Groups, and Customizing Your Privacy Settings.

Simply Select ‘Customize’ from Any Privacy Drop Down Menu and Begin Typing the Name of the List (ex. ‘Clients’) in the ‘Hide this From’

Box.

But There are Still More Privacy Settings to Customize…

Once You are Done Setting Your ‘Basic Directory Info’ Privacy Settings, Go Back to the Privacy Settings Main Menu and Select ‘Applications & Websites’ (3).

Applications & Websites’: This is How You Can Change What Information Third Party Applications & Search Engines Have Access To.

Click the ‘Edit Settings’ Button Next to the ‘Info Accessible Through Friends’ Option to Set What Info You Want Games (i.e. Farmville) to Have Access to.

Click the ‘Edit Settings’ Button Next to the ‘Instant Personalization’ Option to Set What Info You Want Other Websites (i.e. Yelp) to Have Access to.

There’s No Way to Customize This Option, Only Activate or Deactivate it. Partner Sites Often Pull Your Real Name, Profile Picture, etc.

If Active, You Choose on a Per-Site Basis as You Visit Those Sites.

You can completely disable this feature by un-checking this box.

Click the ‘Edit Settings’ Button Next to the ‘Public Search’ Option to Set What Info You Want People Using Search Engine (like Google) to Have Access to.

Facebook Recently Changed This Option, So Now Only What You Choose to Show to ‘Everyone’ is Eligible for Search Engine Searches.

You can ‘See a Preview’ of what information is searchable

on the web by clicking here.

You can completely disable this feature by un-checking this box.

If Your Status Updates are Viewable to ‘Everyone’- People You Don’t Know Can View Them and Search Them Through Facebook or the Web.

If There are Specific Individuals You Want to Block, Return to the Privacy Setting Main Menu and Select the ‘Block List’ (4) Option.

You Can Block People By Name or By Email Address.

You Can Also Simply Block Individuals from Sending You Application Invites. (i.e. Your Aunt Who Keeps Trying to Get You to Play Farmville)

There is No Way to Refine a Search (i.e. by Location) Through This Menu, You Can Only Scroll Through a List of Names and Profile Pic. Thumbnails.

If You Have Trouble Finding the Person You Wish To Block, Do a Standar Search for Them Instead in the Main Search Bar.

Click ‘See More Results’ to refine your search.

You Will Be Brought to the Search Results Page. Now You Can Find the Person More Easily.

Make sure you select ‘People’ from the sidebar.

Type in a Location and click the ‘Refine Search’ button.

Click this ‘Report/ Block Person’ link at the very bottom of their profile.

Select the Profile of the Person You Wish to Block from the Search Results List.

Check the box next to ‘Block this Person’ and click the ‘Submit’ button.

Here You Can Simply Block Someone or Report Them to Facebook if They are Harassing/ Abusing You or Breaking Facebook Policies in Other Ways.

You can Create ‘Friend Lists’ to Categorize Your Friends, Coworkers, Clients, Classmates, Stalkers, etc.

Friend Lists are Great for Event Invitations, Emailing to Targeted Groups, and Customizing Your Privacy Settings.

Simply Select ‘Customize’ from Any Privacy Drop Down Menu and Begin Typing the Name of the List (ex. ‘Clients’) in the ‘Hide this From’ Box.

Facebook Automatically Shares Anything You Set to Share with ‘Everyone’ to Be Seen by Search Engines and Third Party Sites UNLESS You Customize These Options.

You Can Also Create ‘Block Lists’ to Block Specific Individuals from Seeing Your Profile and Searching for You on Facebook.

If You Need Help, Select the ‘Controlling How You Share’ Option from the Privacy Settings Main Menu to View a Helpful Diagram and Instructions.
