The National Institutes of Health (NIH), the U.S. government’s premier biomedical and behavioral research enterprise, invites candidates with outstanding strategic leadership in clinical research informatics to apply for the position of Chief, BiomedicalTranslational Research Information System (BTRIS), NIH Clinical Center (CC), Bethesda, MD. The CC is the world’s largest hosp italentirely dedicated to clinical research that provides compassionate patient care and unparalleled opportunities for advancingtranslational clinical research, a key component of the Intramural Research Program (IRP) portfolio. The Chief of BTRIS is a tenure-track or tenure-eligible position in the NIH CC.

The incumbent will report to the Director, NIH CC, and will work in partnership with the NIH CC Chief Information Officer. Theincumbent will serve as the visionary for the Biomedical Translational Research Information System, an NIH-wide resourcesupporting clinical research studies across the IRP and the interface between the IRP and extramural investigators.

For an appropriate candidate, the incumbent will also have an opportunity to serve as the leader of the Laboratory of InformaticsDevelopment and, as such, be able to hold a dual appointment within the National Library of Medicine (NLM). Research resourcesinclude support for four NLM fellows seeking a clinical informatics post-doctoral experience. The potential exists for jointappointments with other NIH Institutes and Centers to pursue research in the field of clinical research informatics.

Qualifications: The ideal candidate will possess a M.D. and/or Ph.D. with informatics training, as well as experience at a senior leveland as an architect, strategist, and leader for biomedical translational research informatics. The candidate should have exceptionalcommunication skills and be able to articulate a vision for clinical research informatics for the NIH’s Intramural clinical r esearchprogram. They should also have the ability to develop and implement strategies to support clinical research informationmanagement. The applicant must demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively and use a consultative approach to problem solvingand decision-making.

This tenure-track or tenure-eligible appointment offers a nationally competitive salary, full benefits package, (including retirement,health, life, and long term care insurance), and participation in the federal Thrift Savings Plan. Appointees must be U.S. citizens,resident aliens, or nonresident aliens with a valid employment-authorized visa. Salary and federal resources for this program will becommensurate with the biomedical informatics research and management experience of the candidate.
