T he Acting Vice Chancellor
of Fountain University,
Osogbo, Prof. Hakeem
Mobolaji has called on the Federal
Government to allow private uni-
versities benefit from the Tertiary
Education Trust Fund
(TETFUND).
Prof. Mobolaji made this call in
his address at the FUO end of
Ramadan feast for media men.
He said the inclusion of private
universities on the TETFUND
list will go a long way in assist-
ing the institutions in delivering
the much desired quality educa-
tion for Nigerian teeming youth.
He bemoaned the present ar-
rangement in which private var-
sities are regarded as profit mak-
ing entities that do not qualify to
benefit from government inter-
vention funds. He posited that
the current trend is against best
practices in the world citing the
UK where government assists
private universities to educate
the citizenry.
Earlier at the programme, Prof.
Mobolaji urged the media men to
collaborate with the institution in
her quest for making qualitative
education available and accessi-
ble to all and sundry. He high-
lighted the successes and the
challenges the university has rec-
orded so far.
While delivering a sermon at the
programme, Alh. AbdulHafiz
Adedimeji the University Imam,
enjoined Muslims to imbibe the
lessons of Ramadan. He said
Muslims should worship Allah
rather than the month of Rama-
dan by sustaining their good
deeds round the year. He there-
fore prayed for the progress of the
university, the State of Osun and
Nigeria as a whole.
While responding, Mr. Hameed
Oyegbade (Daily Trust) com-
mended the University manage-
ment for the standard maintained
in the institution despite paucity
of funds. He then urged the man-
agement to seek funds from Is-
lamic institutions and agencies.
Similarly, Alh. Muideen Adeleke (OSBC)
promised, on behalf of his colleagues, to
give the University necessary professional
media support.
Among those present at the occasion were the the rsentative of the Acting Bursar, Mr. Sulaiman Balogun; the representative of the Registrar, Mr. Sheriff Adenekan and the Admission Officer of the University, Mr. Odelade
