Dear Residents of Punggol East, It is public news that AHPE TC will not be managed by a Managing Agent from 15 July 2015. 15 July 2015 marks day 1 of our directly managed TC, a new beginning. For the last few months, my fellow MPs and I have been busy with the handover. Preparation for this day started as early as Feb this year. As the MP in charge of Human Resource (a new dept), my immediate task was to carry out recruitment to ensure we have enough staff strength to manage the estate. We have tried several methods to reach out to potential candidates and one of the methods was to put up recruitment notice on our notice boards across the 7 divisions that we managed. I’m very heartened to note that despite the recent saga experienced by the TC, we have residents who wrote in to express their interest to join the TC. Although not all were found to be suitable, I am very touched to see residents coming forward. The MPs of AHPE TC will continue to serve our residents to the best of our abilities. Thank you for the support and understanding. Parliamentary WorkEX-OFFENDERS APPLYING FOR TAXI VOCATIONAL LICENCE (11 May 2015)

Ms Lee Li Lian asked the Minister for Transport whether ex-offenders qualify to apply for the taxi vocational licence and, if not, what are the rea-sons.

Mr Lui Tuck Yew: LTA takes into ac-count offences that may affect an in-dividuals suitability to be a taxi driver. Ex-offenders who have committed extremely serious offences, such as rape, are debarred from obtaining a Taxi Drivers Vocational Licence

(TDVL) for life. Those who have com-mitted less serious offences, such as housebreaking, are debarred for three to five years, after which they can apply. Other offences, such as being a member of an unlawful as-sembly, do not result in debarment. This calibrated approach is needed to maintain public confidence in the safety of our taxi services, especially as it is common for taxi passengers to travel alone and sometimes late in the night. At the same time, it provides ex-offenders with a second chance.

    Punggol East Bulletin July 2015

    Punggol East SMC 3

We set off early in the morning of Sun-day, 12th July as our 8 buses made their way to Kukup, a fishing town along the western coast of Johor, Ma-laysia.

Along the way, we visited a chocolate factory and a biscuit shop where we

tried out a variety of local treats, be-fore enjoying a buffet of the king of fruits - delectable durians - for lunch! Kukups kelongs offered us a peek into the lifestyle of the fishermen of the area - a way of life rarely seen in Singapore today. We even had time for shopping before tucking in to

tempt our tastebuds with a fresh sea-food dinner, complete with crabs.

A memorable Sunday getaway from the hustle and bustle of city life!
