Finnish Defence Forces enter-tained in the Camp OpeningDespite the rainy weather, Roverway Camp Opening made people party on Tuesday. Or maybe it was just be-cause of the cool Finnish summer evening that Rovers and Rangers were so eager to get on their feet and jump and dance to stay warm when the house band from Finnish Defence Forces played.

Roverway’s internationality was demonstrated power-fully in the ceremony by 52 cardboard boxes decorat-ed each one with a different flag. The boxes traversed beautifully the crowd that kept their hands in the air and threw the boxes until the stage where the countries’ names were announced.

Roverway received greetings in the form of video speech-es from the Vice-President of the European Commission Viviane Reding and the Patron of Roverway, Finnish Prime Minister Jyrki Katainen. They underlined the role of today’s youth in making Europe and the world a bet-ter place in the future.

Roverway’s epic figure Tapsa appeared also in the Camp Opening. There was a funny video about how Tapsa had tried hard to obey the Scout Law and then realised that being a good Scout or Guide is not a competition.

Everybody sang together the Roverway 2012 song and also a beautiful Roverway gospel song in three voices. Then the Finnish Defence Forces house band began to play the newest summer hits that inspired the crowd to dance.

We need courage to see the truth.
