Host a Highschool Exchange Student! The month of July is a great

time to consider sharing your Amer-ica with an exchange student fromanother country. “Hosting an ex-change student not only is an oppor-tunity to share what you most loveabout the U.S., it helps you to seethe U.S. through fresh eyes,” saysTampa resident, Ms. Lee. She inviteslocal families open their heart andhome by hosting an exchange stu-dent sponsored by PAX – Program ofAcademic Exchange (PAX).

PAX students, from 70 Euro-pean, South American, Asian, orAfrican countries, are eager to experi-ence American activities—backyardbarbecues, birthday celebrations, andholidays—and to share their countryand culture with their host families. They arrive to the U.S. for the up-coming school year in August. Theyare 15-18 years old, have studiedEnglish for three years, and are moti-vated to learn more about the U.S.by attending high school and livingwith a host family. They are coveredby comprehensive medical insuranceand have their own spending money.

Volunteer host families providePAX students with a warm and sup-portive home environment, a seat at

the family dinner table, a bed, a quietplace to study, and encouragement toengage in everyday American life. Alltypes of families—single parents, young couples, retirees, and parentswith kids of any age, especially withteenagers—are welcome to host.

“I've been working for PAX-Program of Academic Exchange for 51/2 yrs now,” says Ms. Lee. “Duringthat time, I have placed 31 studentsfrom 13 different countries with awe-some host families throughout theTampa Bay area. It is the most inspir-ing work I've ever done. Connectingthese inspiring students with awe-some host families is so exciting. When the students get to host theirhost family in theircountry, that is thebest of the exchangeprogram in action! Ihave a host familyvisiting their ChineseDaughter in Chinaright now; so sweet, especially since theiradopted daughter isfrom China! I'm ex-cited to go to Thai-land some day soon& other countries to

see my exchange kids, too!”Founded in 1990, PAX is a not-

for-profit educational organizationand one of a select few U.S. Depart-ment of State designated ExchangeVisitor Programs chosen to partici-pate in its prestigious U.S. govern-ment-sponsored FLEX and YESprograms. Each year, more than1,100 teenagers visit the U.S. as PAXexchange students to be Ambassa-dors of their country and help us tocreate peace in the world throughunderstanding.

Custom furniture may soundexpensive, but with today’s technol-ogy and computerized woodwork-ing equipment that is no longer thecase. Personalized furniture is nowavailable at very affordable pricesand offered in a wide array of attrac-tive colors and finishes. Home or-ganization has benefited greatlyfrom this trend.

Custom closets are quickly be-coming a standard option for home-owners. Improving the storage andorganization in a closet can add asmuch as three times the usual capac-ity of the old standard rail and shelf.Beyond the benefits of extra storage, custom closets look great and canadd value to the home. Additionalbenefits include finding clothing oraccessory items faster, enough spaceto keep clothes neatly pressed insteadof crushed and the additional roomto add new clothes.

With the high cost of construc-tion utilizing the benefits of a wall

There are many reasons we loveour Tampa Bay Rays! Of course, there are the games, where everyinning has its white-knuckled, yell-out-loud moments and the breaksare filled with laugh-out-loud anticsthat keep the live audience participat-ing. There is no doubt, as you watchthem heat up the diamond, that theRays players have their heads andtheir hearts in the game. Further-more, they have put their hearts intothe Tampa Bay community and haveput their heads together to make areal difference for the people livinghere.

Spanning the organization fromthe players to the management, theTampa Bay Rays make it their teammission to stay active, both on andoff the diamond. The Rays organiza-tion is much more than entertain-ment and finely tuned athleticism –though we do love that! From theplayers and their families to the cor-porate employees, the Rays are dedi-cated to making a difference in thecommunity.

One way that the Rays havebeen a positive force in Tampa Bay isthrough the Rays Baseball Founda-tion, a 501(c) 3 non-profit organiza-tion that supports youth educationdevelopment. The Tampa Bay Raysand their support team continually

pitch in to help families and individu-als in our community through chari-ties, volunteer programs andpartnership affiliates.

This Summer: RAYS UP For Our Community!

Most recently, the Rays created anew campaign called “RAYS UP forOur Community.” Launched onJune 1st and lasting until September20th, the “RAYS UP for Our Com-munity” campaign focuses on fourkey areas – Kids, Heroes, Health andEducation. Additionally, every gameduring each two-week campaignflight will highlight a partner agency“Everyday MVP” on the telecast andsocial media.

The four key areas of focus eachhave a Rays team ambassador, includ-ing pitchers Chris Archer and MattMoore, manager Kevin Cash andinfielder Evan Longoria. Each cam-paign has a deep personal meaningfor them.

Tampa Bay Rays president BrianAuld says, “We enter the 10th year ofStu Sternberg’s ownership with a re-newed focus on our mission to ener-gize our community through themagic of Rays baseball. The ‘RAYSUP For Our Community’ campaigncelebrates our community partnersand helps share their successes with awider audience.”

Matt Moore heads up theRAYS UP for Heroes campaignfrom June 29th to July 12th.Matt chose RAYS UP for OurHeroes, stating, “Baseball is ournational pastime but we wouldn’tbe able to enjoy it without the greatmen and women who protect us. Igrew up on an Air Force base so Iknow firsthand that American he-roes, like my dad, sacrifice everyday to keep us safe. Your TampaBay Rays are committed to energiz-ing our community through themagic of Rays’ baseball and support-ing those who give so much for ourfreedom. Join us as we rally ourcommunity around active dutymilitary, Veterans, first respondersand their families.” RAYS UP forHeroes highlights the “EverydayMVPs” in our community to thankthem for their service and dedicationto the safety of our community.

For the period of August 2–16,the “RAYS UP for Our Community”campaign switches to Tampa BayRays manager Kevin Cash’s focus,RAYS UP for Health. Cash and theRays organization is inspired to pro-mote health within the communityand give thanks to healthcare profes-sionals in the Tampa Bay area. Whether you need your AC re-paired or replaced, would like to findout how to cool a room better, orwant to lower your energy costs, JaimeAir can help you. The company offersfree estimates and second opinionsand guarantee they have the lowestprices with the highest quality work.

Air Conditioning Repairs Air Conditioning Units take a

beating in the hot Florida weatherwhere they rarely get a break. JaimeAir can repair all major brands of airconditioners. If your unit needs re-pairs, Jaime is personally involved tomake sure everything is done correctlyand in a timely manner. And sinceJaime Air’s service techs aren’t paid oncommission, you can rest assured thatthey won’t try to sell you unnecessaryparts or services.

Air Purification & Duct Sanitation There are several signs that

could indicate you have mold grow-ing in your ductwork. If you seestaining or water damage aroundductwork, condensation inside, or

smell a musty smell, you should getyour ductwork checked for mold. Ifleft untreated, mold can make youand your family sick. Jaime Air caninstall UV-C lights to prevent moldgrowth in your system. They can alsoinstall electronic air cleaners to helpremove pollen and dust.

However, in some cases youmight want to have your ductworkreplaced and the professionals atJaime Air are experts at doing this ina timely, cost effective, and unobtru-sive way. In fact, dirty ductwork thatis over 12 years old in Florida can bereplaced for about the same cost ashaving it cleaned. As an extra bonus, you might find that the airflowthroughout your house improveswith new ductwork.

“There is no reason for one roomto be hotter than others in yourhouse,” says Jaime. “But some timesthe ductwork that was originally in-stalled is too small for the room to getsufficient air or the purpose of theroom has changed over the years andtherefore new ductwork is needed toget more air into the room. We canfix your ductwork so that every roomin your house will be cool as you wantit to be.”

New Air Conditioner Installation The average life span of an air

conditioning unit in Florida is 7 to 10years, although some higher end mod-els can last as many as 17. If you findyourself in need of a new air condi-tioning unit, Jaime Air will help youfind a system to fit your home andbudget. They install many differentbrands of air conditioning units andare licensed dealers for two of the topbrands – Trane and Bryant.

“Jaime Air installed a new Bryantsystem for me. I got proposals from afew of my local dealers and HomeDepot. The sales person Jaime Air sentdid not try to up sell me. He ex-plained the brands available for myhome as well as the size and themodel. He was the only one whomeasured my home to be sure I hadthe right size unit. All of this took lessthen an hour and he exposed a bunchof myths the other dealers told me.

The system I chose was aBryant two-stage modelthat is now keeping everyroom in my home at thesame temperature. The in-stall took 7 hours and theydouble sealed all of theducts and put a plaster likeseal on it. I needed a newduct box, plywood stand, and electrical breaker andJaime Air did not chargeme extra for it.”

“Jaime Air did a greatjob in our home. We had5 bids for the same Tranesystem. They came to ourhome and explained whichsystem was the best onefor us to buy. way to display gratitude to those whoserve our country, the GratefulAmerican Coin program quicklywent through those first 2,000 coins.By selling the coins to others whowanted to say “thank you” to ourmilitary, the Grateful American Coinprogram was able to donate proceedsfrom each sale to organizations thatprovide support services to the se-verely injured men and women of theU.S. Armed Forces.

Today, the Grateful AmericanCoin has recognized over 51,000soldiers, sailors, airmen, Marines andveterans. Additionally, it has donatedmore than $113,000 to partner or-ganizations, including The SpecialOps Warrior Foundation and Pawsfor Patriots.

Even more powerful than thenumbers are the personal stories be-hind each of the 51,000 coins. Whilewaiting to board a recent flight, Ben-son “coined” an Army helicopter

pilot to thank him for his service. After receiving the coin, he went tothe Grateful American Coin website, where he realized he had received hiscoin from the organization’s founder. When the plane landed, Benson waswalking out when she heard some-one say, “it’s you, it’s you!” Sheturned around to find the Army pilotwaiting on the jetway for her to ex-press his heartfelt appreciation.

A Grateful American: How Passion andProfessionalism Inspired Gifts of GratitudeSome of Deb Benson’s most

cherished childhood memories arefrom visits to her grandfather’s farmin Temple Terrace, where she wouldfish in his lake. Since then, the land-scape has changed dramatically, butBenson still visits that farm — almostevery weekday. As a manager in theFlorida sales operations departmentat Verizon Wireless, Benson’s officebuilding stands where that farm oncewas, and she can see the old fishinglake from her desk. Benson has ledand inspired many people in her 26-year career with Verizon Wireless, working within nearly every depart-ment, including customer service, marketing, operations and sales. But,it was only eight years ago that Ben-son assumed a personal leadershiprole that would touch tens of thou-sands of lives outside her company.

Around the Fourth of July holi-day in 2007, Benson was searchingfor an engaging way to teach her

sons about the expression of grati-tude. As she researched ways to showappreciation for the selfless men andwomen who defend our country, shehad an idea to have special coinsmade that they could present to sol-diers and thank them for their serv-ice. Benson found that uniquemilitary coins are often collected byservice members, or even earnedthrough achievements or to enhancemorale.

So Benson and her family de-signed a coin of their own. As Ben-son set out to place a small order fora few of their new coins, she discov-ered that to qualify for a price break, she would need to purchase 2,000.Inspired by a legacy of family patriot-ism and her professional passion toconnect with others, Benson decidedto expand the idea rather than scrapit, and that was the beginning of theGrateful American Coin program.

“It’s inspiring to show sinceregratitude to the people fighting forour freedom every day,” said Benson.“Their personal stories are the mostbeautiful gift, which I never ex-pected.”

Grateful American Coins havebeen framed by recipients, laid at anunmarked grave in Normandy andburied in the caskets of servicemen, but one of the most impactful mo-ments for Benson was learning abouta 13-year-old who received a speciallydesigned coin for the families of thefallen after his father passed away.Dealing with the death of a parentcan be very hard, and this young manwas no exception. It was difficult forhim to talk about it, so he used thecoin to drive the conversation. When

he went to bed at night, he wouldleave his coin out on the nightstandas a signal to his mom that he wantedto talk about his loss.

This is just one of many encour-aging and emotional stories shared onGrateful American Coin’s websiteand Facebook page. The coin wasthought up as a way for Benson toshow her sons whom the true heroesare in today’s world. And if they’veever stopped to think about the51,000 experiences those coins havegenerated, they’ve probably realizedthat their mom is one, too.

By Matthew Selby

Hot Tuna Sushi Bar & Grille isthe perfect summer spot to tantalizeyour taste buds in a way that’s onlydescribable as “perfection on a plate”!Conveniently located at 3689 Tamparoad, Hot Tuna is just a rocks throwaway from Citrus Park and theWestchase area.

If you’re reading the online ver-sion of this publication and live some-where else in Tampa Bay, trust mewhen I say that Hot Tuna is wellworth the drive from anywhere in theWest Central area of Florida!

Since opening just over two yearsago, owner Hanh Ho has made a bigsplash in the local restaurant marketand is already considered a staple herein our community.

“We are very lucky to live in anarea with so many delicious restaurantsto choose from,” says Jason, a regularhere at Hot Tuna. “I absolutely loveoriental cuisine and consider myself asa bit of a “sushi snob. While I doenjoy a handful of Sushi places here inthe Bay, nothing compares to thefreshness and taste of the rolls here atHot Tuna.

I have to agree with Jason on thefreshness. The Ahi Tuna, for example,is offered at many restaurants thesedays but the seared Ahi Tuna perfectlyseasoned with Asian seven-spice and

miso-garlic drizzle at Hot Tuna is outof this world!

Hot Tuna’s menu is sure to makeyou smile. Offering so much morethan just their famous sushi, Hot Tunaoffers a diverse selection of culinarydelights for every taste and palate.

Many times when a patron walksinto what they think is primarily a sushijoint they don’t expect to be wowedby the other items on the menu. Ifcustomers walk into Hot Tuna withthat mindset, they will absolutely beblown away by their experience andcertainly will have a completely differ-ent feeling as they walk out the doorwith a full, happy belly.

The steak for example, is defi-nitely one of my favorite items on theentire menu! It’s a perfect 12 oz.USDA Choice center - cut New YorkStrip, served with a shiitake teriyakiglaze. The aroma alone as they set itdown on your table could quite possi-ble give a vegetarian an appetite!

SushiThe Sushi rolls at Hot Tuna are

always delicious and can be veryhealthy depending on the options youchoose. They have many fabulous rollslisted on their menu, but if you arelooking to change up a specific roll, they will also accommodate you tocreate exactly what it is you desire.Hot Tuna has so many different rolls

to choose from, sometimes the hardestdecision you will have to make all dayis which roll/rolls to choose!

If you are looking for a good rec-ommendation I suggest you try theVolcano Roll. I personally cannot visitHot Tuna without ordering this roll. It’s indescribable!

So, even if you think you mightnot like sushi, I can almost guaranteeyou will find something that you’lllove. But, if I’m wrong, and sushi re-ally isn’t your thing, not to worry, be-cause as stated before they have plentyof other options to satisfy your hunger!

Their selection of appetizers aloneis grandiose. From lettuce wraps, chicken wings, mussels and eggrolls topanko crusted crab cakes, crab Ran-goon and steamed edamame, theyoffer a little bit of everything.

Their menu is just as extensive, with options from the land, sea and

sky, including specialty salads and sushichoices, as well as hearty entrées fea-turing lobster, steak, teriyaki bowlsand so much more!

So if you are looking to tantalizeyou taste buds with culinary perfec-tion, stop in and find a new favoritedining spot at Hot Tuna Sushi Bar &Grille, where you’ll find excellenttaste, beautiful presentation, attentiveservice and a fun, contemporary vibe.
