Facials If you have never had a HydraFa-

cial, you should definitely try one. TheHydraFacial is one of the most popularand effective facials Niven Kanaan of-fers at Tru Beauté Med Spa. “The Hy-draFacial treatment is the newestadvance in non-laser skin resurfacing,”states Niven. “The facial is so effectivebecause it treats skin from the dermislayer up – not just on the surface. Weare unique at Tru Beauté because weare one of the few med spas in Tampato offer this type of facial. The Hy-draFacial is the only hydradermabrasionprocedure that combines cleansing, ex-foliation, extraction, hydration and an-

tioxidant protection, resulting inclearer, more beautiful skin with no dis-comfort or downtime. The treatment issoothing, moisturizing, non-invasiveand non-irritating. The HydraFacialtreatment improves the appearance offine lines, wrinkles, congested and en-larged pores, oily or acne-prone skinand brown spots.” Suitable for mostskin types, the HydraFacial can even becustomized for more mature faces anddeeper wrinkles by adding a protein tohelp skin build up with collagen.

Niven works with her clients todetermine their facial needs. “I cus-tomize my skin care procedures to eachindividual's needs, from anti-aging,acne treatments, scars, fine lines andwrinkles and more,” states Niven.

The process begins with a Visiacomplexion analysis. The Visia machinetakes a picture of your face that showspore size, UV spots, sun damage andwrinkles. Niven uses this informationto customize facials and tracks the ef-fectiveness of the facials with subse-quent photos. Niven can also helpclients develop a regime to continuethe benefits of the facial at home, withthe highly effective Skin Medica line ofproducts.

After just one HydraFacial, myskin looked brighter and clearer andfelt softer and smoother; I even noticedmy brown spots became more faded.

I’m definitely hooked and can’t wait tohave another one to see how muchbetter my skin can be.

Until meeting LuAnn I had noidea that certain wines went betterwith specific food selections- I wasdefinitely wrong! LuAnn taught methat certain elements, such as textureand flavor, in both food and winereact differently to each other andfinding the right combination of theseelements will make the entire diningexperience more enjoyable. When se-lecting a wine to be paired with food, one must consider the aroma and fla-vor of the wine and pair it up with afood dish that is complementary tothat wine. Wine is something I havealways enjoyed, white wine being myfavorite, but before meeting LuAnn Ijust thought white wine went witheverything. Her advice really helpedme in selecting wine and food thatcomplements each other and I willcontinually be seeking more great

When choosing an orthodontistfor your child or for yourself, it is im-portant to choose someone who is ed-ucated, experienced and dedicated tothe wellbeing of their patients. Fer-nando Galeano, D.D.S., M.S.D., is allof those things and more. Located inthe Cypress Professional Center, justoff of Tampa Rd. in Oldsmar, Dr.Galeano’s office is just a short drivefrom Palm Harbor, East Lake, andWestchase.

Meeting Dr. GaleanoDr. Galeano earned both his Doc-

tor of Dental Surgery degree and hisMaster of Science in Dentistry at theTemple University Dental School inPhiladelphia, PA in 1989. He is thethird generation in his family to be in-volved in dentistry, so you could defi-nitely say that improving smiles is inDr. Galeano’s blood. He puts his pa-tients and their families first, and be-lieves in really spending the time to getto know them. He has worked in thisarea for over 20 years, and after being

part of a larger group practice formany years, he opened his first practicein 2002 in Tampa near USF. In 2006he opened up this new location andhas enjoyed building this practice fromscratch.

“I really enjoy the hands-on as-pect of working with patients. I enjoytalking to my patients and their par-ents and giving them my undivided at-tention,” says Dr. Galeano.

Dr. Galeano, who was born andraised in Honduras and is fluent inSpanish, is a family man. Married for16 years to his lovely wife, Claudia, heis the father of two teenagers, so hecompletely understands all sides of theequation when it comes to kids andorthodontics. The importance of abeautiful and healthy smile is an af-fordable investment that continues topay off for the rest of a person’s life, and more than that, when teeth arealigned properly, they perform the waythat they are supposed to, preventingpain and problems down the road.Having a beautiful smile is importantfor more than aesthetic reasons. Teeththat are not overly crowded are easier

to clean, floss and take care of.Dr. Galeano is committed to con-

tinuing his education so that he is upon the latest technology in his field, and he is a member of many organiza-tions within his field including: TheAmerican Dental Association, FloridaAssociation of Orthodontists, Hills-borough County Dental Association,Pinellas County Dental Association,West Coast District Dental Associa-tion, Florida Dental Association,Southern Association of Orthodon-tists, American Association of Ortho-dontists and the World Federation of

Orthodontists.Kerry Raynor says, "My daughter

Megan is a patient. What I love abouthim is that he sees her personally andhe adjusts her braces, instead of hergetting an assistant or technician. Mydaughter needed headgear because ofan overbite, and now her smile is sobeautiful. There's been such a hugedifference in her smile. We’ve beenthrilled. He’s so warm and so good, and there’s never been any pain, andshe is very happy with the results.”

Treatment for Children andYoung Adults

Dr. Galeano offers free consulta-tions for his patients, and sees patientsof all ages. After all, it’s never too lateto improve your smile, but most of hispatients are children and young adults. The American Association of Ortho-dontists actually recommends thatchildren come in for their initialscreening appointment around 7 or 8years of age. This is a free screeningthat helps Dr. Galeano to make a planthat is personalized for each child.

Dr. Galeano says, “The first per-

manent molars come in at that timeand it’s important to have a screeningto see what is happening and to see ifthere are any problems that can be in-tercepted.”

Interceptive Treatment can bedone on children who have a crossbite,or who have had a thumb-suckinghabit that affected their teeth, or whohave severe crowding. Just like any-thing else medical, when you catchthings like this early, they are easier totreat. Dr. Galeano sometimes appliesbraces during this part of the treat-ment plan, but most of the time heuses apparatuses and orthodontic ap-pliances to address any problems.

Normally, Dr. Galeano recom-mends that girls begin getting bracesbetween the ages of 9-11, and boysbetween the ages of 10-12 when mostof their molars have come in. The rea-son to begin early, he says, is becausewhile a patient is still growing, a goodorthodontist can use the growth totheir advantage and guide the teethalong into the right place.

Braces come in a wide variety ofstyles, but the goal is the same.Whether you are looking for tradi-tional metal braces, gold braces, ce-ramic braces (with clear brackets), or

Invisalign braces, Dr. Galeano can as-sess your child’s orthodontic needsand provide a treatment that is effec-tive and affordable.

The average full orthodontictreatment lasts two years, and Dr.Galeano’s practice accepts most DentalPPO plans, and he offers an interest-free finance program that allows thetreatment to be broken up into afford-able payments.

“Whenever possible, I try to helpparents out and keep the cost down,”says Dr. Galeano.

Adult TreatmentIt is never too late to improve

your smile. Many adults who did nothave the opportunity to have braceswhen they were young are findingthat a beautiful smile increases theirself-esteem as well as their overall oralhealth.

Invisalign is a system of cleartrays that align your teeth over a pe-riod of time, and they are very popu-lar with adults who want to improvetheir smile without having the ap-pearance of wearing braces. Duringthe initial examination, Dr. Galeanowould take x-rays and look at the pa-tient’s overall dental health to assess

the best plan of action. One thing is for sure, regardless

of your age, Dr. Galeano and his staffwill make you feel welcome, makesure you are comfortable and edu-cated about each step of the process, and make sure you are smiling ear-to-ear when your orthodontic treatmentis complete.

A beautiful smile is an invest-ment that continues to pay off foryears and years to come, so why wait?Come in and see Dr. Galeano for acomplimentary consultation rightaway.

Galeano Orthodontics is lo-cated at 150 Pine Avenue N., SuiteA, in the Cypress ProfessionalCenter of Oldsmar. Office hoursare Monday and Wednesday, 8a.m. – 5:30 p.m.; on Tuesday,Thursday and Friday, Dr. Galeanoworks out of his Tampa location.Patients can see Dr. Galeano at ei-ther location. "Wewanted to celebrate the surf culture."

There are plenty of restaurantsthat serve seafood, but Surf ShackCoastal Kitchen takes it a step further, importing food that isn’t just the stan-dard beach fare. The fish tacos, com-bined with the Mexican andAsian-inspired cuisine is not like mostmeals offered by the typical beachrestaurants.

If you close your eyes, Surf ShackCoastal Kitchen makes you feel like youare on the ocean in Southern Californiawith not a care in the world and surf-boards adorn the walls and hang fromthe ceilings with a true Californiamotif. If you don’t look past the tiki–styled outdoor dining area into theparking lot you might swear you werein SoCal. “This is about a lifestyle,’’says Jason. “We want to make people

feel like theyare in South-ern Califor-nia, withoutthe exorbi-tant costs ofliving on thatcoast.”

SurfShack CoastalKitchen wasbuilt with asmany ‘green’and recycledmaterials aspossible. Thetake-out containers are biodegradableand Earth-friendly, and, like many peo-ple who ascribe to the Californialifestyle, there are plenty of healthy al-ternatives on the menu. Even the wallsare made of reclaimed wood.

As for the menu, the food is freshand everything is made-to-order.“From our homemade tortilla chipsand our ‘Almost Famous Salsa’ all theway to our made-to-order-fresh-squeezed margaritas with all-naturalagave nectar, we do all we can do togive you the freshest menu choices,’’states Jason. “We are all about freshand vibrant flavors, which is why weuse as many local and organic items aspossible.”

The fare at Surf Shack CoastalKitchen ranges from burgers to que-sadillas, with many exotic options tochoose from as well; but there’s onething that really defines them – thetacos. They serve tacos in almost everyway imaginable and the fish tacos are atrue specialty. Thursdays are the bigday at ‘The Shack’ when tacos are $2all day and if there is a line, the wait isworth it. If fish tacos aren’t for you, check out their filet mignon tacos –they are out of this world! You alsohave the option of combining filet andshrimp in the Surf and Turf Tacos thatboast a distinct Hawaiian/Asian tastethat is incredible.

Other favorites include the Ban-gin’ Shrimp Tacos, the Longboard Fish

Tacos, and the Bonzai Tacos. In caseyou haven’t noticed, there is a bit of atrend towards the tacos, even thoughthe menu is filled with many other op-tions. The Bangin’ Shrimp Tacos, filledwith Gulf shrimp, lettuce, tomatoes, and sliced avocado, along with chipotlemayonnaise are definitely not an itemto be missed and really takes the tacoto an entirely new level.

If tacos aren’t the way you want togo, check out the Tuna Poke Salad, which is served up with fresh sushigrade tuna, sliced jicama, and tossed ina mango passion fruit dressing. TheCitrus Seafood Salad and the TacoSalad (there goes the tacos again), aresome other Surf Shack favorites). TheCitrus Seafood Salad is a combinationof beer battered cod, shrimp, cilantro-lime aioli, and pico de gallo. The TacoSalad, served with marinated chicken, guacamole, sour cream and mixedgreens, showcases these delicious selec-tions inside a red-chili tortilla shell.

The Asian-fusion food, which isextraordinary in both taste and presen-tation, is capped off by the bowls, which come in a variety of styles thatuse organic noodles and freshly madesauces. “Each of our bowls are madewith organic noodles and sauces likethe citrus soy sauce and our Thaipeanut sauce,’’ states Jason.

At Quantum Leap Farm we haverecently added Hippotherapy to ourexisting therapeutic riding andequine assisted self-exploration pro-grams. Hippotherapy is a very dy-namic and exciting therapy thatutilizes traditional physical, occupa-tional, and speech therapy treatment

strategies. Theseare combined witha horse’s naturalmovement to cre-ate a program thatachieves optimal, functional out-comes for everyparticipant. Weuse horses to help people overcomephysical challenges.

We focus our treatments on im-proving the activities of daily livingalong with the unique goals of eachclient. There are very few individualswho could not participate in our pro-
