Nearly 100 people of all agesfilled Mekor Shalom for an event tocelebrate new space for Mekor Shalomin Carrollwood.

The “Hanukkat Habayit,” He-brew for dedication of sacred space, was attended by members of the

Tampa Conservative synagogue as wellas members of the local community.

“It is incredible to think that onlyabout eight months ago we began ourcongregational path toward a shulpremised on two things: connectionwith one another; and welcoming and

valuing each person for who he or sheis, rather than how much they pay indues,” synagogue Board of Trusteespresident Chris Shulman said. “Thesevalues are felt at every Shabbat serviceor Holiday Observance, through thewarm words and inclusive practices ofour Founding Spiritual Leader, Haz-zan Jodi Sered-Lever, through theonegs and Kiddush luncheonsthoughtfully prepared and provided bycongregants, through the warmth offriends gathered together to worship, and through the kind laughter we hearwhen the kids attend religious school.

“These values are also expressedin our adoption of a Voluntary Finan-cial Commitment – the first shul to doso in Tampa Bay – where each personor family gives as they believe they areable to afford.”

At the event, Shulman introducedHillsborough County District 2 Com-missioner Victor Crist, who offered in-spirational remarks and embracedTampa’s newest Conservative Jewishcongregation as part of the vibrant, growing area.

Sered-Lever led a brief but mean-ingful service characteristic of thewarm and inviting environment thathas already drawn over 70 householdsto the shul in under a year.

Board Vice President Susan Mar-

low offeredthe blessingand fulfilledthe mitzvah ofaffixing themezuzah tothe entrance ofthe sanctuary.Afterward, congregantsand guests en-joyed a delicious meal in the atriumwhile socializing.

“This type of environment is ex-actly why we joined. This is a placewhere people give what they can. Peo-ple are here because they want to be;the sense of community is palpable,”said Mekor Shalom member Dr.Amanda Smith, who attended withher husband and two daughters.

Shulman added, “This congrega-tion has answered the call. Through fi-nancial contributions and in-kinddonations of religious items, officeequipment and supplies, beautifulworks of art, and, most of all, congre-gants’ time and services, MekorShalom is thriving.”

mom writes, “I took my 14 monthold son to Dr. Makram for his firstdental visit and it was AMAZING!!!The front desk, as well as the entirestaff, were very friendly and welcom-ing. We were called back and seen byDr. Sandy very quickly. She gave myson the attention he needed and madethe experience very pleasant for him. Ihighly recommend them and am gladto have found such a great dentalpractice for my son.”

Dr. Sandy says some parents ques-tion the American Dental Associa-tion’s recommendation to bringchildren in as early as one year of age.She says, “Some parents wonder whyit is important to bring their child tothe dentist when they only have a fewteeth. The initial appointment is asmuch about educating the parents andanswering any questions or concernsthey might have, as it is about makingthe child feel comfortable in the officeenvironment. At our first appoint-ment, I show parents the best brush-ing techniques for young ones and talkto them about the kind of toothpastethey should use and how often, as wellas the best times to brush their child’s

teeth. It is important to start gooddental habits as soon as possible tohelp prevent problems from happen-ing later in life.”

Another reason it is so importantto find a loving, capable pediatric den-tal office for your child is that the ma-jority of teeth accidents happen whenkids are in the toddler stage, as youngkids are more prone to accidental fallsthat bang or traumatize their teeth. “Ifa child has an emergency dental situa-tion, it is so much better when they al-ready have a dentist they know andtrust,” says Dr. Sandy. “We want tomake Pediatric Dentistry of Westchasea dental home for children so they feelcomfortable whether they are gettinga routine cleaning, have a cavity thatneeds to be filled, or are in need ofemergency treatment.”

If your child does have a dentalissue, Dr. Sandy and her loving, ex-pert staff at Pediatric Dentistry ofWestchase can help your child getback on the path to a healthy mouth.Last summer Pediatric Dentistry ofWestchase partnered with board certi-fied pediatric anesthesiologist Dr.Hector Vila, who provides his serv-ices to their dental office upon patientrequest. “Dr. Vila has been a greataddition to our practice,” says Dr.Sandy. “We are now able to provide

sedation for children who need ex-tensive dental work and may haveproblems sitting still for that long oftime or may be very anxious.” Asowner of his own private practice, Dr.Vila provides his services to dental of-fices throughout Tampa Bay and hasbeen a trusted name in anesthesiol-ogy for nearly 20 years.

With their friendly smiles andwelcoming manner, Dr. Sandy and thehelpful staff at Pediatric Dentistry ofWestchase are making a difference inchildren’s attitudes about going to the

dentist. One mom says, “Your office isgreat. We are so grateful to have foundyou guys! Our kids love to come tothe dentist.”

Dr. Sandy stresses the importanceof early childhood dental educationand supports many area schools as abusiness partner, holding regular in-formation seminars to tell area schoolchildren about the importance ofgood dental health.

Providing expert air condition-ing and heating services toWestchase, customers of Jaime Airdefinitely have great things to sayabout Manny, Jaime, and the profes-sional workers that have come totheir rescue. “Jaime Air did a greatinstallation,” says one happyWestchase family. “My wife was veryhappy with how clean they kept ourhome during the tricky renovation. The new system cools fast and it'svery quiet due to the new ductworkthey installed. Manny and Jaime take pride inwhat they do and enjoy building rela-tionships with their customers. “I goto my customers homes and get toknow them and their families,” saysManny. “What makes me happy is thatI sit down with them and explaineverything they need to know about

air conditioners and how it pertains totheir home and their personal com-fort. I sell them what they need andwhat they want, not what I need tosell them, and that makes me feelgood because I know I’m doing theright thing.”

Air Purification andDuct Sanitation

There are several signs that couldindicate you have mold growing inyour ductwork, such as staining orwater damage around ductwork, con-

densation inside, or a musty smell. Ifleft untreated, mold can make you andyour family sick. If you are concernedabout mold growth, Jaime Air can in-stall UV-C lights to prevent moldgrowth in your system. They can alsoinstall electronic air cleaners to helpremove pollen and dust.

However, in some cases youmight want to have your ductworkreplaced and the professionals atJaime Air are experts at doing this ina timely, cost effective, and unobtru-

sive way. In fact, dirty ductwork thatis over 12 years old in Florida can bereplaced for about the same cost ashaving it cleaned. As an extra bonus, you might find that the airflowthroughout your house improveswith new ductwork.

“There is no reason for one roomto be hotter than others in yourhouse,” says Manny. “But some timesthe ductwork that was originally in-stalled is too small for the room to getsufficient air or the purpose of theroom has changed over the years andtherefore new ductwork is needed toget more air into the room. We can fixyour ductwork so that every room inyour house will be as cool as you wantit to be.”

The average life span of an airconditioning unit in Florida is 7 to 10years, although some higher end mod-els can last as many as 17. He explainedthe brands available for my home, aswell as the size and the model. He wasthe only one who measured my hometo be sure I had the right size unit. Allof this took less then an hour and heexposed a bunch of myths the otherdealers had told me. The system Ichose was a Bryant two-stage modelthat is now keeping every room in myhome at the same temperature. Theinstall took 7 hours and they doublesealed all of the ducts and put a plas-ter- like seal on it.
