The non-profit was formed to improve the ex-perience of patients overwhelmed byillness and medical bills.

The US has a very complicatedmedical billing system - with 68,000different codes that are both compli-cated and time consuming for anyonetrying to understand the complexities.Eighty percent of medical bills that aregenerated by medical providers con-tain errors, according to MedicalBilling Advocates of America and 60percent of all bankruptcies are due tomedical bills, according to NerdWal-let, and out of that 60 percent, 70 per-cent have health insurance.

The US healthcare system, ac-cording to the World Health Organi-zation, ranks 37th in quality ofhealthcare, but ranks in at number twofor having one of the most expensivehealthcare systems.

PASi strives to provide assistanceto patients of all ages, their familiesand caregivers, in managing theirmedical bills and providing referrals topatients who need specialized adviceor assistance. Even though the Af-fordable Care Act has attempted toaddress some of the deficiencies in thehealthcare system, it has fallen short ofcorrecting many of the problems thatfrustrate patients and continue toforce others into bankruptcy.

PASi Introduces Wellness Program A Mayo Clinic study showed that

70 percent of Americans take at leastone prescription drug on a regularbasis, while 50 percent take two ormore. In addition to PASi's primarygoal of helping patients with medicalbilling problems and referrals, it alsostrives to promote good health and ahealthy lifestyle. To this end, PASi re-cently introduced a member-basedwellness program. Membership in thePASi Wellness Program entitles mem-bers to take advantage of a variety ofholistic and/or alternative treatments. There is a perfect opportunity comingup to find out more in person:

PASi invites you to its WellnessProgram Meet & Greet on Febru-ary 24th at 6:30 p.m., which isbeing held at Trinity Ultimate Fit-ness, located at 11108 ChallengerAvenue in Odessa, FL.

PASi's desire to help individualsimprove their health by participating inthe Wellness Program stems from thehope that by improving health, we canall rely less on the healthcare system.

After touring the finest art mu-seums in Europe last summer with agroup led by his art history teacher,Matt Cannella, a Plant High senior, founded Artists in Action because hesaw how art “deeply moved themasses across continents”. Althoughhe’s not an artist himself, his love forart motivated him to inspire others inthe same way that he was inspiredwhen he visited places like the Lou-vre and Uffizi Gallery. A 3rd genera-tion Tampa native Cannella haschosen to inspire those in his ownbackyard – right here in Tampa. Can-nella even retired from his highschool football career so he couldconcentrate on producing an inaugu-ral teen artist showcase and give backto the community.

Cannella has teamed up withHadley Chillura, a senior at theAcademy of the Holy Names, whojust so happens to be an accom-plished artist. Chillura has been ex-pressing herself through art herwhole life and feels that art gives her-self a unique voice. She says she hasno calling in writing or singing, butcan “write through her brushstrokesand sing through her use of color”.

son House is one of Tampa’s last andfinest examples of Queen Anne archi-tecture and is designated on the U.S.National Registry of Historic Places. Most of the work will be displayed inthe mansion’s 3rd story ballroom.Net proceeds from the $12 ticketsales will benefit the CommunityFoundation of Tampa Bay. TheCommunity Foundation will earmarkthe funds to benefit the arts. Lightrefreshments will also be served.

So far, 14 teen artists represent-

ing a variety of mediums, includingpainting, photography, sculpture andmore, have committed to participate. The artists come from a variety ofschools across Tampa Bay, such asAcademy of the Holy Names, Berke-ley Prep, Jesuit, Plant, Robinson, andTampa Catholic.

Cannella and Chillura want oth-ers to know that art is important andessential. They want to leave theirlegacy of art appreciation when theygraduate in May, hoping this will be-

come an annual event. The Artists in Action charity

fundraiser will be held Friday,February 19th, from 6pm to9:30pm at the historic 1901 An-derson House in Hyde Park, lo-cated at 341 South Plant Avenuein Tampa. A huge animal lover, Terri Mostfounded Heavenly Paws as a way tohelp those in the community copewith the loss of their cherished com-panion. Terri says, “Over the years wehave lost pets in our family and thinkthere is a huge need for our services inthe Tampa Bay area. We are big ani-mal lovers, and wanted to providesomething to the community whereevery family could afford to have theircompanion returned to them, without financially breaking the bank. Weall go though different stages of ourlives, where money is tight. Even if itis a single parent with three kids, wewant to be able to give them the sameopportunity to have what everybodyelse can have at an affordable price; toknow that they are being taken careof. These pet owners are goingthrough a difficult time in their lives;they need to feel at ease.”

Terri runs Heavenly Paws withthe help of her sister Sherry, daughterBrittany and staff. Together they pro-vide a welcoming, homey environ-ment, where guests can feel relaxedand at ease.

Using a peaceful, gentle and re-spectful cremation process calledAquamation, Heavenly Paws will helpyou honor your pet in hopes of pro-viding you with some peace and clo-sure in your time of despair.

In addition to providing a moretranquil means of cremation, Aquama-tion also uses up to 95% less energythan that of a fire cremation, so it isalso very environmentally friendly. And, by keeping energy costs low, thisallows Heavenly Paws to be able tooffer such affordable pricing. Terrisays, “Originally patented in 1888, ithas only been in the past 20 years that, with advances in technology, Aquama-tion has been made available to thepublic, and we are proud to be the firstto offer this service to the public inTampa. Instead of clunky, discoloredremains – which is quite often whatyou will get with a typical fire crema-tion – with Aquamation, the remainscome out similar to white beach sand.”

At Heavenly Paws they stand bytheir commitment of respecting yourpet, and thus, each pet is crematedseparately, guaranteeing your pet’sashes will never be mixed with thosefrom another pet. This means that theashes you receive will be 100% fromyour pet and no one else’s!

Even if you choose to have acommunal cremation, each pet is stillcremated in an individual chamber,

ensuring the ashes will remainunadulterated.
