1. Introduction of the Project
The HKSAR Government and Shenzhen Municipal Peoples Government both
have recognized the need to enhance cross-boundary transport infrastructure for
long-term economic growth and further regional co-operation. On 18 September
2008, the two Governments jointly announced the implementation of the new
boundary control point (BCP) at Liantang / Heung Yuen Wai. Commencing
operation of the new BCP will be in 2018.
We are appointed by the HKSAR government to apply innovative construction
technology and idea on efficient air condition system for the terminal building.
2. Design of New BCP
A two-storey design is adopted to minimize land requirement. Facilities for goods
vehicles and public transport interchange will be located on the ground floor. The
upper floor will serve passengers, private cars and coaches. The size of upper
floor is only one-fourth of the total area of the lower floor (about 4.6 hectares).
3. Rationale for using Variable Refrigerant Volume (VRV)
Variable Refrigerant Volume (VRV) permits the system to automatically adjust
itself to the air conditioning load demands so that the system is energy efficient in
operation. VRV system air conditions each individual location. Precise level
control is possible that reacts to the exact conditions in each room. Individual
control promotes a far more economical and efficient system.

The technologically advanced VRV III-C inverter controlled heat pump system,
designed especially for installation in cold climates. It provides highly efficient
heating in outdoor temperatures as low as -25 C that it is very suitable for this
new BCP.
4. Simplifies installation benefits of the VRV System
Outdoor air cooled condensing units are easily located on roof tops of the building
or located on each floor. Therefore no need for a separate machine or equipment
room required for saving more place.
Varieties of VRV Indoor Fan coil units are available to suit the requirements in a
premise and to meet the clients' special needs. Many mounted type models are
available in various cooling capacities.
Installation of VRV System can minimize to reduce the builders and electrical
works. It is both suited for use in new buildings and in the restoration of existing
buildings for future. No major modifications are necessary for its installation.
VRV has the optional facility to provide a centralized control to operation and
control by individual controllers. Centralized control system can be operated from
a convenient location in the building. It has for monitoring the performance of
units in individual area. It provides to switch ON/OFF the units at any desired
locations at any given time without entering the particular area. No need to have a
specially trained team of technicians to operate and control the system. Good
facility to indicate nature of fault for taking a prompt action to rectify the fault.
Inspection after installation is straightforward.
The indoor unit's cooling operation can be controlled to maintain desired
temperature in any location at any environment change of needs and preferences.
The lightweight, compact units can be transported using a regular lift. The pipes
are few in number and making design plan layout simpler.

4.1 Direct Cost Saving with VRV suitability to Present Day Condition
This system permits modular operation where load can be gradually transferred to
the standby generator, and a generator with the capacity to meet normal power
loads will meet the requirements. There is cost saving on both the sizing and
running cost of the standby generator.
4.2 Low Cost of VRV
In a VRV system, the Builders and electric works required are minimal and simple
so that cost much less than in other systems of air conditioning. Therefore the
overall system cost in VRV system including that of builders and electrical works
will compare very favorably with the system cost of other types of air
conditioning. At the same time, the VRV system offers several advantages over
other systems of air conditioning.
5. Economic Benefits
Individual control promotes a far more economical and efficient system. Saves
energy can using the HRV for ventilation dramatically boosts energy efficiency.
The VRV delivers highly efficient performance, contributing to high energy
savings.
5.1 Conserves space
Space efficiency is enhanced by the compact size of the individual units, the long
maximum piping length, and the ability to realize a large scale air conditioning
system with a single piping circuit.
5.2 Design flexibility
The extended maximum piping length gives more flexibility when designing.
Change of layout can easily because the indoor units capacity can be up to 200%
that of the outdoor units. New compressor technology eliminates the need for

piping calculation to short the time needed for design. No effect on the design of
the building interior when the outdoor units can be installed on the roof.
5.3 Quality Benefits
The self-diagnostic system identifies problems quickly and accurately. The Auto
Restart function ensures that operation is restored with the previous settings even
if the power has been shut off. Units are controlled in each individual area so that
local malfunctions do not cause the entire system to shut down.
6. Public Health Benefits
It operates over a broad temperature range in heating to extend from 15C to
20C to suitable for any weather.
7. Environmental Benefits
A recent trend rapidly gaining popularity is required for air treatment as well as air
conditioning. VRV Outdoor unit can combine fresh air treatment and air
conditioning that it adjusts the temperature of air from outdoors using a fixed
discharge temperature control to praise for their compactness, energy conservation
and extensive operation range of outdoor temperatures. It provides higher
enthalpy efficiency and improved external static pressure offers more flexibility
for installation.
7.1 Air quality Benefit
The system equipped with a DX-coil and a humidifier to provide further advanced
features, such as temperature adjustment to suit conditions indoors and to prevent
cold air from blowing on people directly during heating operation.
7.2 Noise Benefit
Low operation sound level decreases the noise pollution by using good silencer.

Units are designed to operate quietly and equipped with a function for silent
operation especially at night.8. Conclusion
A VRV system provides considerable savings on energy, costs, and space
requirements. Its innovative inverter technology ensures the variety of
performance required by building owners in every stage of operation. And the
unique piping system and compact, lightweight unit design give flexibility in
system planning and quick and easy installation.
In future, new solar air conditioning refers to any air conditioning (cooling)system that uses solar power. The U.S. Energy Independence and Security Act of
2007 created 2008-2012 research funds for a new solar air conditioning
development program to develop and demonstrate multiple new technology
innovations and mass productioneconomies of scale. Solar air conditioning will
become important role in zero-energy and energy-plus buildings design.
Our VRV air conditioning units will be converted to solar power to save on energy
costs. There will some other sustainable ways of cooling the air using new
technologies that provide some exciting possibilities for the future. As our world
transforms and begins to make the use of clean and renewable energy sources a
priority, we will see more of these kinds of innovative solutions!
