Natural Disasters O A natural disaster is the effect of

a natural hazardO It effect on the environment and also

causes losses that are financial & Human’s life.

A volcano is an opening, or rupture, in a planet's surface or crust, which

allows hot magma, volcanic ash and gases to escape from below the

surface.

Types of Volcanoes O Composite Volcanoes O Shield Volcanoes O Cinder ConesO Spatter Cones

Page 7: Volcanic Eruption

Composite Volcanoes O Composite volcanoes are also

called strato volcanoesO They are formed by alternating layers

of lava and rock fragments.

Page 8: Volcanic Eruption

Shield Volcanoes O These volcanoes are huge in sizeO They are built with many layers of

running lava’s O  Abroad shaped, gently

sloping cone is formed.

Page 9: Volcanic Eruption

Cinder ConesO These are the simplest type of volcano.O They occur when the lava blow and fall like a rain O These are in circular oval shape conesO They are rarely grow larger than 1,000 feet

Page 10: Volcanic Eruption

Spatter ConesO Hot erupting lava contains just

enough explosive gas.O When the spatter falls back to Earth

the clots weld themselves together and solidify forming steep-sided accumulations.

Precautions

Page 12: Volcanic Eruption

Before a VolcanoO Keep 3 extra air filters and oil filters on hand for your

vehicle.O Keep 3 extra filters for your home heating/cooling system.O Keep a roll of plastic wrap and packing tape so you can

wrap and protect computers, electronics, and appliances from ash.

O Store emergency food and water in your home.O Find out if your community has a warning system and know

the warning signs.O Create an evacuation plan.O Define an out-of-town contact for all family members to

reach to check in.O Besides your family emergency kit, have disposable

breathing masks and goggles for each family member.

Page 13: Volcanic Eruption

During an EruptionO Follow the directions of authorities.O Take your family emergency kit and evacuate.O Evacuate to an area upwind rather than downwind if possible.O If you are unable to evacuate, Seek shelter indoors if possible.O Close all windows and doors to keep ash out. Seal up drafts.

Do what you can to keep ash out.O Seek higher ground - flash floods, mud, and poisonous gasses

will accumulate in low-lying areas.O Keep your skin covered with long pants, long-sleeved shirt

and hat to avoid irritation from ash.O Wear a dust mask or wetted handkerchief to help filter ash.O Leave your vehicles turned off until the eruption has ended

and the dust can settle. Ash destroyed many vehicle engines during the Mount St. Helens eruption.

Page 14: Volcanic Eruption

After an EruptionO Stay inside and listen for volcano information on your

radio or TV.O Minimize your movements and keep all windows and

doors closed.O Drive slowly and carefully with your lights on - the ash

is slipperyO Spray your yard with your water pipe to dampen the

ash. This helps keep it from blowing around more..O Check with your neighbors to see what help they need.O Check in with your emergency contact to let them

know your status and plan.O Check with authorities on guidelines for ash removal

and disposal

Last 3 Major Volcanic Eruption

Over The World

Page 19: Volcanic Eruption

O In July 15In June 1991, the second largest volcanic eruption of the twentieth century* took place on the island of Luzon in the Philippines, a mere 90 kilometers (55 miles) northwest of the capital city Manila. Up to 800 people were killed and 100,000 became homeless following the Mount Pinatubo eruption, which climaxed with nine hours of eruption

Krakatau, Indonesia

O In 1883O Ancient Krakatau was

estimated 2,000 meters in height and radius of 9 kms.

O Its great eruption happened in pre history in 416 as documented in the ancient Javanese book "Pustaka Raja", and left 3 island as the rest i.e. Rakata, Sertung and Panjang Island.

O In the later expanding Rakata comes and followed by Danan and Perbuatan volcanic summits.

Page 21: Volcanic Eruption

O In July 1912O The largest eruption on

Earth this century occurred at Novarupta Volcano, Alaska, in June 1912, creating Katmai Caldera and the Valley of Ten Thousand Smokes.

O Volcanic ash (more than from all other historical eruptions in Alaska combined) devastated areas hundreds of miles away.

Last 3 Volcanic Eruption

Over The India

Page 23: Volcanic Eruption

O In June 8, 2005TO This volcanic island stands

in the midst of a volcanic belt on the edge of the Indian

O All the historical and recent eruptions (1787 and after) are confined within and around an active polygenetic cinder cone in a 2 km wide caldera that is formed by the collapse of a primitive cone of a stratovolcano.

The Andaman Islands

Page 24: Volcanic Eruption

O In 18th February 2003O These mud volcanoes have

erupted sporadically, with recent eruptions in 2005 believed to have been associated with the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake.

O There are other volcanoes in the area. The Barren Island volcano which is the only active volcano in South Asia and the Narcondum volcano which is considered to be apotentially active volcano.

Bara tang Island

Page 25: Volcanic Eruption

O In May 2008O Barren Island is circular (10 sq

km) and consists of a 1.6 km wide somma and a central cone. Barren volcano consists of a caldera open towards the west and a central cinder cone.

O Two spatter cones the south-eastern and western flanks of the cinder cone formed during the 1994-95 eruption.

O Explosions and lava flows occurred at Barren Island volcano in April 1991.
