ANGRY protesters from Makhalweni local-ity in Lusikisiki last Wednesday took partin a march to voice their disatisfactionwith the misunderstanding between themand their headman over the constructionof the community clinic in the ward.

Andile Nondize from Lusikisiki saidthey want the clinic to be built at a placewhere it would be closer to everyone butthe headman of their locality wants it to bein his yard.

Nondize said they had come to a pointwhere they were tired of people who werecontrolling their lives and wanting to bringdevelopment in their own homes. “Eventhe government gets up and robs us of ourfood parcels and blankets when it is closerto elections but what we want is to makesure that our needs are taken care of aspromised, including this clinic.”

IngquzaHillmayor, PatMdingi, said con-sultation would be done with the MEC forLocal Government and Rural Affairs, Mli-bo Qoboshiyane’s office with regard to thismatter.

In a separate incident on Thursday, Mbi-zana’s Mayor was unable to continue whithhis community outreach which he startedlast week Wednesday when protestersclosed off the road leading to Khanyayo Lo-cality.

Protesting community members de-manded that the municipality install elec-tricity and supply water at their homes andbuild RDP houses.

The mayor of Mbizana Municipality, Ma-khaya Twabu, said they had tried by allmeans to resolve the issue but protestershad refused to move which then delayedthe visit to Critchlouw sports ground forfood, school uniforms and blanket hando-vers to community members of the Khan-yayo community.

THE South African Police Services (SAPS) inthe Alfred Nzo District (AND) are conductingtown and rural area patrols in an effort tofight crime and maintain a zero crime rate inthe district.

Police in Bizana, Flagstaff, Lusikisiki, Flag-staff, Mount Ayliff and Mount Frere are call-ing on community members to work hand inhandwith themandreport criminal activitiesin their areas to help decrease the rate ofcrime and murder in these small towns.

In celebrationofNationalPoliceDay, policemembers visited communities in their areasand taught themabout the importance of com-munication so that community memberscould feel comfortable around the police andreport any criminal activities taking place intheir areas.

The Bizana Police Station Commissioner,Lieutenant Colonel Mthuthuzeli Hintsa, said

their main aim in visiting communities wasto interact with them so that they could real-ise that they can rely on police.

Police spokespersons from different clus-ters, Captain Mlungisi Mathidane, CaptainMduduzi Godlwana and Lieutenant EdithMjoko all agreed that being amongst the com-munities would help to curb criminal activi-ties instead of waiting for people to come andreport at the police station.

Lieutenant Mjoko said her team always dopatrols and they produce good results thatwere always applauded.

Whilst Captains Mathidane and Godlwanasaid their strongest points in their areas wereworking together with community memberswhich enable them to quickly apprehend theculprits. “We are watching and criminalsshould know that we have eyes and ears eve-rywhere and if people insist on doing crimi-nal activities – thinking they won’t get caught– they are wrong because we will get them,”concluded Captain Mathidane.

A NIGERIAN national, who is an Informa-tion Technology specialist, is accusing thepolice in Lusikisiki of being partial follow-ing strong beatings he allegedly got fromthe landlord, which left him with a brokenarm and injuries to his whole body.Ifeany Uche was allegedly attacked by his

landlord and his friends a few kilometresaway from the police station where he wasrenting a flat. But no police men attendedto hismatter, even thoughhe phoned the po-lice during the attack. When he went him-self to the police station to open a case, hewas arrested and charged with assault. He later called his lawyer who managed

to talk to the police who later released himon free bail. Uche said he was the first whoopened the case against the landlord andhisfriends and that they were the ones whowere supposed to be arrested.“Look at our case numbers to show that

I came first to the police station. My casenumber is 182/022014 and the landlord’scase number is 189/022014. The police treat-edme very unfairly and theywere in favourof the landlord because he is a well-knownperson in Lusikisiki. It was difficult evento get help from the police officer who wason duty on this day after mentioning thename of my landlord,” he said.Uche described how the bickering be-

tween them started. Since I normally paymy rent on the 15th of every month I asked

for an extension since I was having a delayin getting the money. But two days after myrequest he camewithhis friends demandingmoney and threatening to take me out.

“When he was threatening to evict me Itold him to go ahead and throw me out ofhis property. That iswhen I triggeredhis an-ger since it will need three months notice. Then they started to beat me until I becameunconscious and threwmy things out of myroom. I got assistance frommybrotherswholive in the neighborhood,” he said.Uche said he lost everything becausemost

of his belongings were damaged includingthe furniture.Police spokesperson, Captain Mduduzi

Godlwana, said it was impossible for the po-lice not attending in the incident becausethey were always available for any incidentthat takes place in town.“Wehavepatrols dailywhere even the sta-

tion commander participates. He said thepolice were not wrong in arresting Mr Uchebecause both of them had opened the casesand to arrestwas not a punishment, it’s onlyto secure the attendance in court. So it wasnot difficult to find the businessman sincehe is well-known in Lusikisiki and we dohave his address,” said Godlwana.Attempts to get hold of the businessman

before going to press were fruitless as hiscellphone was on voicemail – SIMBONGILEMDLEDLE

The Mbizana municipal team said this was partof a programme driven by President Jacob Zuma’sState of the Nation Address putting the emphasison investment in education.

MLM mayor, Makhaya Twabu, said they chosethe location because it was one of the localitiesthat needed a serious intervention. “We want allcommunities to know that the government caresfor themandmore especiallywewant the childrento be motivated at all times about going to school. This is why we donated toys, small tables andchairs to pre-schools and fixed the broken win-dows of Khanyayo Junior Secondary school.”

This was done at the beginning of the mayoraloutreach. Later, on the same day, the team handedover five benches to the Khanyayo clinic.

“Delegates that were sent to assess the area saidthe clinic also needed an intervention after seeingpeople sitting outside with no chairs. This is whywe took money out of our own pockets to buybenches,” said Mayor Twabu.

Sibusiso Bhaca who was speaking on behalf ofthe beneficiaries, said the community was veryhappy with the visit.

THE Umgosi team would like to give athumbs-up to traffic officers who were con-ducting operations at all entrances of UTAand even in the CBD a couple of weeks ago.

We were not aware that the people who aretransporting us in taxis or combis, do nothave driver licences or a permit to transportpeople.

But all along their driving ability was mak-ing us suspect. You see, our lives were in dan-ger because we just boarded the taxis not ask-ing about their papers. Oh!! It was more thanthe word nice when traffic officials towedaway taxis that were illegally parked intown.

Perhaps the drivers of UTA and surround-ings will learn to obey the rules of the road.

You know what? It is not rare to see thedriver of a vehicle in UTA just stop in frontof you without signalling or even an apologybecause bazicingela bodwa.

Keep it up ke gents, by doing so you are

bringing back the image of original UTA, notlo siwubonayo ngoku.

Some drivers are afraid to drive in this townlike Gesh’s father because of the reckless driv-ing in this town.

You see ke umgosi team is praising whenthere is a need to do so. But there is a trafficofficer who spoiled the whole effort. Ngubaningoku lowo i-gossip seyisincoma? The guy isdriving a black VW with CA number plates –we failed to take down the registrationnumber. What did he do?

We were driving our Turu-turu down Nel-son Mandela Drive when we saw this carspeeding like Michael Schumacher. The guyeven went through a red robot. Undixelele keukuba abantu bafunda ntoni kuni nizitrafficofficers nisidla amarobot?

We were astonished when we saw this wasa traffic officer in full uniform. Mnyama njelo mfana u-active kakhulu apha ekubambenikanti naye wophula umthetho.

Practise what you preach my bru.
