UB40 will release their new album Getting Over The Storm, the reggae stars 20th studio album, and their first since 2010s Labour of Lov

IV.

Like many of UB40s previous albums, the groups original material is complimented by cover versions and interpretations. Interestingly,

amongst the five original UB40 songs, the covers recorded for Getting Over The Storm were originally written and/or recorded by country

music artists.

Formed in 1978, UB40s have often been associated with politically charged lyrics, but thats not the case with the lyrical themes found on

Getting Over The Storm, with politics of the heart more to the fore. However, the albums most political song is How Can a Poor Man Sta

Such Times and Live?, the 1929 Great Depression song written by Blind Alfred Reed, and later popularised by Ry Cooder on his self-titled

1970 album. We reworked the lyrics to update them a bit, explains Robin But thats the only political lyric on the album. The rest are

somebody-done-somebody-wrong songs. We all know someone whos had their heart broken

Live Today signals a new journey for bassist and composer Derrick Hodge as he embarks on a solo recording career. Even though Hodge

has played with such jazz titans as pianist Mulgrew Miller and trumpeter (and labelmate) Terence Blanchard, as well as R&B stars J ill Sco

and Maxwell, the 33-yearold bassist is probably best known for anchoring the Grammy award-winning Robert Glasper Experiment. Simila

to how Glasper concocts a distinctive mlange of modern jazz, hip-hop, and R&B, Live Today too integrates those genres and more into

something thats potent and personal. However, it is no Experiment offshoot. Similarities aside, the Live Today asserts a unique sound.

The title alludes to his top guiding principle in creating his debut album, a stunning achievement that showcases the profound depth and

breadth of his musicality. Glasper does contribute on several songs on Live Today, as do the rest of the Experiment members:

saxophonist/vocoderist Casey Benjamin, and drummers Chris Dave and Mark Colenburg. Hodge, however, cast a wider net for recruiting

musicians. The diverse cast includes rapper Common, singer/guitarist, Alan Hampton, keyboardists J ames Poyser and Aaron Parks,

saxophonist Marcus Strickland, trumpeter Keyon Harrold, and the American String Quartet, among others.

Foy Vance was born in the North Ireland town of Bangor, but his passion for traditional music was born in the southern states of

America. As a child, Foy relocated with his father, a preacher, to the American Midwest settling in Oklahoma. With his father, Foytravelled the American South, widening his horizons and absorbing the rich musical traditions he was exposed to. Returning to

Ireland some years later, Foy began writing his own music, deeply shaped by the sounds of his youth. Since those days, he has

spent a considerable amount of time on the road, touring with the likes of Bonnie Raitt, Michael Kiwanuka, Marcus Foster, Snow

Patrol, and Ed Sheeran. Foy also scored Oscar-winning short-film The Shore with David Holmes, who collaborated with Vance on his

2012 Melrose EP. Foys newest album, Joy Of Nothing, will be released this year.

With his latest album, Joy Of Nothing, the first effort for his new label Glassnote (home of Mumford & Sons, Phoenix and more)

Foy Vance has crafted a masterwork of the sweet hurt of love and what it does to the men and women involved with all of the fallout.

Vance works with those familiar refrains of finding and holding onto a guiding light, of falling back on ones resiliency (with the backing

vocal help of Bonnie Raitt on the excellent cut, You and I), of shutting off from the world and living behind guarded emotional walls,

of knowing the contents of ones soul better than anyone else ever could and of ripping everything up, throwing the scraps into the air

and just going for whatever gusto might still be left to have in this life of such short terms.

Project OverviewR&B legend Rick J ames was one of the most influential black musicianof all time. As an artist, songwriter and producer, J ames provided thefunky hits that resuscitated Motown Records in the late 70s. His PunkFunk sound updated the labels style and saw it through the mid-80s.

1981, Rick was at the peak of his commercial success with the platinumselling Street Songs album and the hit singles Super Freak and Giveto Me Baby.

The following year, Rick J ames & the Stone City Band took the stage iEssen, Germany to open the 10th Rockpalast-Festival. This 1982performance was the first time J ames played in Europe, bringing hisbrand of American Punk Funk to a whole new audience. Together withthe Stone City Band, J ames did not disappoint, burning up the stage whis trademark sound and special effects.

This DVD is now being re-released with 3 bonus tracks, and featuresclassic hits like You and I, Mary J ane, and of course, Super Freak
