tracks were compiled from a number of Buck Owens & The Buckaroos albums and released as That Fiddlin’ Man. The albuwas an instant hit with fans.

Key Points:

When a young Merle Haggard played in Buck Owens’ band, he suggested the name “Buckaroos” for the combo. While Merle’s tenuin the band was shortlived, he did pretty well for himself afterward. And The Buckaroos name not only stuck, but the band became almost as notable as their leader. Their playing became as noticeable as Buck’s distinct songwriting and delivery. So, it was only natural that The Buckaroos first LP would be a tribute to their leader. The Buck Owens Songbook was released in 196and gave fans a chance to sing along with their favorite Buck hits with The Buckaroos as their backing group—lyrics provided. Six yeand 10 albums later saw the band pay tribute on their last LP to the man who named them. The Songs Of Merle Haggard appeared i1971, and featured The Buckaroos’ instrumental take on classics like “Mama Tried” and “Okie From Muskogee.” Sadly, that LP didn’come with a lyric booklet like its predecessor. It seems natural that these two releases should be joined together on one compact disc paying tribute to the leading pioneers of theBakersfield Sound. Tired of the constraints of the J am, Paul Weller shocked fans and the wider media world and broke up the most popular British band of the early'80s, at the height of their success in 1982

Frustrated by their musical direction, he wanted to explore more soulful, jazz and R’n’B paths in his music. He formed a new band with keyboardMick Talbot and created a loose collective of musicians, added according to the style of music they were intending to produce, known as HonorarCouncillors.

Using American musical influences filtered through a fundamental European style, which harked back to some of the early roots of Mod culture, tband created a string of classic singles and albums.

Probably the band’s most experimental and divisive album, songs such as the nine-minute title track and the ‘Three Piece Suite’ of TheGardener of Eden, an avant-garde mix of classical and jazz stylings, were new territory for The Style Council, and an even more radicaldeparture from the sound of The J am.

Straight pop-oriented songs exist though – the hit single Life at a Top People's Health Farm, How She Threw It All Away and Why I WentMissing are regarded as lost Weller classics.

6. Moderni sm: A New Decade

Motivated by the underground club scene Weller chose another new direction for the last album – his take on the UK deep-house or garagescene.

Featuring the gospel-tinged Promised Land - the band's final single, Sure Is Sure, which went on to become a big bootleg dance hit throughEurope and the instrumental - That Spiritual Feeling - one of the key cuts of the then-new acid jazz scene.

However upon its completion in 1989, it was rejected by the label Polydor, which led to the band breaking up. It was eventually released in1998 on the box set, The Complete Adventures of The Style Council.

From its inception, John Potter’s Dowland Project has drawn upon different musical traditions including those of ‘early

music’ and improvisation. These Night Sessions emphasize the Project’s improvisational flexibility and resourcefulness, as

the musicians create new music in the moment, sometimes with medieval poetry as inspirational reference and guide. The

are also a number of ‘ daytime ’ pieces worked up, Potter notes, from small amounts of notation: ‘ Menino Jesus á Lappa ’

based on Portuguese pilgrim song fragments and ‘ Theoleptus 22 ’ built around a Byzantine chant. L ute fantasias are take

firma between György Ligeti’s restlessly shifting first and second quartets. Mid‐20th

century, Barber and Ligeti would have

been considered aesthetic opposites. “Ligeti was all about leaving what for Barber was solid home”, Paul Griffiths notes in

the liner text. From a contemporary perspective both composers are voices from the past, their present‐day relevance

emphasised in these committed performances. “Physically actualized in the recording, the music is being all the time rema

by the performers searching for what a motif can convey and finding an abundance of expressive contours in Ligeti’s

quartets as much as in Barber’s. The gesture of lament is common to both.” The first of the recordings heard on this album

was made in 2007 on the first anniversary of Ligeti’s death, Hungary’s foremost string quartet paying tribute to the great

innovator of modern Hungarian music. The 2011 recording of the second Ligeti quartet documents also a change in the lin

up of András Keller’s ensemble, with Zsófia Környei, widely considered one of the outstanding violinists of her generation,

replacing long‐serving Keller Quartett member János Pilz.
