The negative command — Don’t allow the world’s system to squeeze you into it’s mold

The positive command — Do allow God to transform you by the renewing of your mind.

Those who belong to Christ Jesus have nailed the passions and

desires of their sinful nature to his cross and crucified them there.

Galatians 5:24

Page 4: True Spirituality - 3 Do's and Don'ts of the Christian Faith

We know that our old self was crucified with him in order that the

body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin. For one who has died has been set free from sin. Now

if we have died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him… So you also must consider

yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus.

(Romans 6:6-8, 11 )

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you

may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and

perfect. Romans 12:2

What then shall we say? That the law is sin? By no means! Yet if it had not been for the law, I would not have known sin. For I would not have known what it is to covet if the law had not said, “You shall not covet.” But sin, seizing an opportunity through the commandment, produced in me all

kinds of covetousness. For apart from the law, sin lies dead. I was once alive apart from the law, but when the commandment came, sin came alive and I died. The very commandment that promised life

proved to be death to me. For sin, seizing an opportunity through the commandment, deceived

me and through it killed me. (Romans 7:7-11)

I have given them your word, and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. I do not ask that you take them

out of the world, but that you keep them from the evil one. They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth. As you sent me into the world, so

I have sent them into the world. John 17:14-18

For you have spent enough time in the past doing what pagans choose

to do—living in debauchery, lust, drunkenness, orgies, carousing and

detestable idolatry. They are surprised that you do not join them

in their reckless, wild living, and they heap abuse on you.

1 Peter 4:3-4

Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how we

may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up

meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see

the Day approaching.Hebrews 10:23-25

to put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is

corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in

true righteousness and holiness.Ephesians 4:22-24

• For it is God who is the cause of your desires and of your acts, for his good pleasure. (Bible in

Basic Eng.)• It is God who produces in you the desires and

actions that please him. (God’s Word)• For it is God who is working in you, ⌊enabling

you⌋ both to desire and to work out His good purpose. (Holman Christian Standard Bible)

• For it is God who is producing in you both the desire and the ability to do what pleases him.

(ISV)• For it is God Himself whose power creates within you the desire to do His gracious will and also brings about the accomplishment of

the desire. (Weymouth)

For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged

sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow,

and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.

Oh, the joys of those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or

stand around with sinners, or join in with mockers. But they delight in the law of the LORD, meditating on it day and night. They are like trees planted

along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season. Their leaves never

wither, and they prosper in all they do.

Psalms 1:1-3 (NLT)

You say you have faith, for you believe that there is one God. Good for you! Even the demons believe this, and

they tremble in terror.James 2:19
